The summer is all about fun! Your child or teen will have the time of their life making art projects unlike any they’ve made or seen before! Each week our creative team of teaching artists guides campers in a new theme, so kids can come back for new experiences throughout the summer! Campers will have the opportunity to create about 10 projects each week, exploring and learning various techniques as they paint, draw, sculpt, and more!

KIDS’ WONDER CAMP (5–12) fosters knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts through hands-on activities, exploring a variety of media. Each week classes conclude with an exhibition of their artistic creations.

TEEN WONDER CAMP (13–15) is geared towards teens looking for fun and challenges. Work on several projects in various media including drawing, ceramics, and digital media. JUNE 26-30: ART FOR ALL, ALL FOR ART! Thinking about Others Through Art Tuition: $400 or $95/day (special drop-in camp!)Come and open up the summer with art! Have fun making work that we will display in the sculpture garden, explore ways of making art to help others, and learn how you can use art to change the world! Projects include public art projects, t-shirt printing, and poster design.

AUGUST 7-11: MAKE IT! Soft and Hard Materials in Art Tuition: $400 Work through many explorations of soft and hard as you explore a wide array of materials. Projects include soft-sewn sculptures, reworked clothing, air-dry clay, illusions, and more!

AUGUST 14-18: MOVE! Motion and Stillness in Art Tuition: $400Make art that moves you! Create animated works with materials including paper and video such as video vignettes and flip books. Create simple animation devices like phenakistoscopes and thaumatropes!

AUGUST 21-25: SHAKE IT UP! Pattern and Disorder in Art Tuition: $400Develop patterns in several ways and contrast them with the many means of creating and even celebrating disorder. Projects include creating your own stamped patterns for a wide variety of uses and designing your own digital patterns.

AUGUST 28-31: BEND, STRETCH, PULL! Proportion and Distortion in Art Tuition: $340 for the four-day sessionSpend the week learning rigor and a little rigmarole! We study proportion through traditional drawing and sculpting, then we mix it up and bend reality to suit our needs! Projects include distorted self-portraits, puppets, and comic books!

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT INTENSIVE | AGES 16-18 This program offers teens the opportunity to work on the entrance portfolio needed to apply to fine arts colleges. Based on the curriculum and portfolio requirements of the top-five fine arts schools (Rhode Island School of Design, School of Visual Arts, Pratt, Parsons, Maryland Institute College of Art), each week is designed to cover a specific topic. Topics will be closely examined through demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and art history lessons.

Mastering Spatial Illusion with Sarah Canfield Monday–Thursday, 6-9pm 4 sessions: July 10 –July 13 Tuition: $350Put it in perspective! Master the application of one- and two-point perspectives using vanishing points and create the il-lusion of depth through a strategic use of values, edges, and shapes. Perspective is an invaluable, core skill for aspiring artists, architects and designers. All work will be completed in black and white.

Figure Studies and Life Drawing with Joel Tidey Monday–Thursday, 6-9pm 4 sessions: July 17 –July 20 Tuition (includes model fee): $425Figure it out! Drawing from live (nude) models, you will learn how to achieve anatomical accuracy in figural renderings by studying major forms and contours, measuring, sighting, and the Canon of Proportions. POLICIESStudent Substitutions: No student substitutions are allowed. Only students enrolled in a certain class can attend that class, unless they have the permission of the Director of the Studio School to audit that class.Student Behavior: The Art Center reserves the right to dismiss any student for inappropriate behavior. Student Property: The Art Center is not responsible for artwork and other property left on the premises and has no liability if such property is lost, stolen or damaged, except in instances when artwork is displayed in a gallery exhibition and insurance coverage is in place. The Art Center does not have the space to store artwork between semesters. All student work must be removed at the end of the semester. Any artwork left after the semester ends will be discarded. The Art Center is not responsible for any digital artwork or images left on the computers in the digital lab. You must back up your work on your flash drive every time you use the lab.Facility Rules: The Art Center will be open to the public at 8:45am Monday–Friday and 10am Saturday and Sunday. Students may enter classrooms no earlier than 9:15am Monday–Friday and 10am Saturday and Sunday. Students enrolled in evening and weekend classes are expected to leave immediately after class. Animals, with the exception of service animals, are prohibited from entering the Art Center.Instructor/Model Substitutions: The Art Center reserves the right to substitute instructors of an equal caliber for any class or workshop. Kiln: Kilns are reserved for firing current student work only. All work must be properly marked with student’s full name and course number in order to be fired. Firing of work takes approximately two weeks from the time the piece was submitting for firing in the Kiln Room. No work created outside of the Art Center’s classes or open studios will be fired at the Art Center. Open Studios: The Art Center offers open studios to our adult members and students during each semester. Open studio subscriptions are only available to current adult students and teen students who have received permission from the Director of the Studio School. Members with verifiable experience in our studios may also use open studios except in Ceramics. You must be enrolled in a class in Ceramics to use the open studios. Unlimited open studio time is available by subscription per semester, meaning you can use every available open studio time slot assigned to your department. Each semester, we will reissue the open studio times as they are dependent upon regularly scheduled classes. Open studios are subject to change or cancellation at the Art Center’s discretion. Please call to confirm there is an open studio before you come.Photographs: The Art Center will occasionally document classes, instructors, teaching demonstrations, and student work using photography and video for promotional purposes only.
