Shalom to all and greetings from Haifa,

A few months ago I came back home! After over a decade of living in the US, serving as Senior Vice Provost

at NYU, I returned to beautiful Haifa, and more importantly, to my first academic home, the University of Haifa.

I have a great love for this institution of higher learning, so different from any other in the Israeli higher

education system. As President of the University it is my mission to make the University flourish, develop

and grow. A University is a dynamic entity, by its very definition, it is adaptive and ever-changing. In this day

and age, even more so. One of the great challenges ahead of us is to encourage pluralism maintaining the

highest research standards ; a place where Israelis from all walks of life can come together in the pursuit of

knowledge and science. I believe that a university should be a living image of its human environment and

in our case, I am proud to state, we indeed are a reflection of Israeli society, and an inspiration of what Israel

is, but also what it should be.

My team and I have great plans for the coming years and the wheels have already started turning for this

engine of growth and development. We intend to add two excellent colleges to the University, each a leader in

its field, thus expanding the University of Haifa's portfolio. The Braude College of Engineering in Karmiel is an

established college in northern Israel with strong ties with industry. By adding it to the University's portfolio we

shall be attaining a School of Engineering as well as acquiring a vibrant campus in the Galilee. The NB Haifa

School of Design, located in Haifa, is well known for its excellence in design and architecture. By bringing it

into the fold of the university we are not only adding exciting new fields of study and research to our portfolio;

we are also gaining a foothold in downtown Haifa where the College is located.

A Notefrom the President

We intend also to develop on major research collaborations in Israel and abroad. We are planning a major

partnership with Rambam Hospital in Haifa and in fact we will move some of our relevant medical ventures to

the Rambam campus to establish a presence there. The City of Haifa is becoming the Biomedical capital of

Israel and we intend to make certain that the University will become a major player in the field. Furthermore,

we shall continue our collaborations in China in the spirit of the already existing partnership with ECNU (East

China Normal University) as this is of strategic importance not only for the University, but to the State of Israel.

This is just the beginning of the transformation of the University of Haifa into an international "Multiversity". I

invite each and every one of you to join us and be part of this magical journey.

With my warmest regards,

Prof. Ron Robin

President

We take pride in being the most dynamic and

renowned for its path-breaking scholarship in

various facets of law. Legal settings cannot be fully

understood, analyzed and evaluated only ‘from

within’, but must also face questions of values and

realities - economic, social, political, international,

can only benefit from having these additional

dimensions in their studies and work. Indeed, our

Our youngest faculty is characterized by a strong

spirit of curiosity and daring in the fields of life

sciences, mathematics, marine studies, and science

education. Our goal in embracing ambitious

initiatives is to expose gifted budding scientists,

researchers, and teachers to innovative thinking,

as they search for personal excellence.

Students can specialize in neurobiology, the study

of nerve cells and tissue function levels in the brain.

One of the areas that the Department of

on is organismal responses to environmental

challenges. Our students investigate the

interrelationships between plants and animals,

seeking ways to preserve and sustain nature

The future direction of society relies greatly on our

understanding of how we interact with one another

and what drives societal change. How organizations

and communities affect the way that people live

and work, how societies influence states, and how

multiple factors influence individual behavior all

require basic research.

The Herta and Paul Amir Faculty of Social Sciences

approaches these issues with multidisciplinary

The International School serves as the focal

point for the University’s ongoing process of

internationalization. The International School has

been host to students from over forty countries,

who have come to Haifa to participate in our

graduate programs, semester and year programs

for undergraduates, and intensive Hebrew and

Arabic courses.

Guided by the principles of academic excellence,

cultural immersion and a caring community,

the International School provides a challenging

academic environment for its students. A range

of activities introduces them to a dynamic social

and cultural mosaic on campus and assures that

students actively experience Israeli life.

International School

The University has launched 13 one-year and

4 extended full degree international graduate

programs taught in English. This year we are proud

to offer 17 different international MA programs, each

one housed in the respective faculty or department,

with the help of the International School providing

the administrative and co-curricular support system

for international students. These programs are set

up to enable international and Israeli students to

share courses and become an intertwined part of

the social mosaic of our University. The International

School semester and year-long study abroad

programs attract undergraduate students from

all over the world, who can choose from a variety

of courses taught in English in the International

The focus of graduate studies has shifted significantly in

recent years as scientific research is conducted in a far

more global context. As such, our academic programs for

advanced degrees are rooted in innovative approaches and

research methods. The GSA focuses on broadening horizons

by stimulating interdisciplinary and multi-national academic

channels. Our programs combine courses and supervisors

from several of our own departments as well as other Israeli

universities, enabling us to provide a wider range of research

angles in many fields. Our activities are also conducted

in cooperation with leading European and American

Universities, giving our graduate students the opportunity to

study both at the University of Haifa and at other universities

abroad. The GSA is responsible for and supervises all aspects

of the University of Haifa’s master’s and doctorate (PhD)

academic curricula, and post-doctoral studies.

Master’s studies: Our master’s students are provided

with tools to expand their knowledge in a specific theoretical

or applied area of study, and to acquire skills in higher-

level thinking, analysis, critical evaluation, and professional

application. The GSA places an emphasis on research

tracks where the students complete a thesis as part of their

degrees.

Doctoral studies: Doctoral studies are among the highest

levels of academic pursuit. As such, students in our doctoral

program are expected to make a substantive contribution

to the advancement of knowledge with a scientific

dissertation. The GSA places an emphasis on designing and

implementing original and independent research.

Post-doctoral studies: Each year the University of

Haifa hosts post-doctoral students from a wide range of

research fields from Israel and abroad, to pursue additional

research, training and teaching. Post-doctoral students

are regarded as valuable sources for advancing knowledge

and research mobility, bringing to the University of Haifa

their accumulated research background from their home

university, while acquiring new methodological tools and

research agendas. The GSA assists post-doctoral students

in becoming acquainted with the University of Haifa's

administrative procedures and post-doctoral fellowships

from a variety of funds.

Scholarships: The GSA is responsible for administering

a range of scholarships that are available for its graduate

students, based on both internal and external financing.

Scholarships are granted following meticulous examination

of the candidates’ academic standing, entry criteria, and

financial status. The goal of the graduate scholarship

program is to aid in building and sustaining an inclusive

graduate community at the University of Haifa -

a community which enhances the quality of the intellectual

environment for all of our students and faculty.
