CULMINATING PROJECT PHILOSOPHY

The Culminating Project gives every student an opportunity to meet graduation requirements andto reflect on their high school career and prepare them to be college and career ready.

THE WHY

South Whidbey High School and the State of Washington require that all students successfullycomplete a Culminating Project to meet graduation requirements. These guidelines will help youmeet this requirement.

THE WHAT

You will share your work in a presentation during your Senior year. You will share your schooland community experiences with your peers and SWHS staff. This will be an oral presentationsummarizing your experiences, the connection of to your plans beyond high school and yourresearch paper. Your presentation must include a PowerPoint, video or use of a documentcamera. Your presentation will share artifacts.

THE HOW

Your success is dependent upon starting early, being organized, and planning ahead.

I. PROJECT

Required:

• Contemporary World Problems Research Paper. Completed in class. Running Startstudents must turn in a copy of an M.L.A. paper completed in their classes.

• South Whidbey High School and Beyond Plan (13th year plan).• Three artifacts from your S.W.H.S. class work that demonstrate preparation for being

college and career ready.• Three artifacts from you community, school activity, church, volunteer, etc. that

demonstrate preparation for being college and career ready.

II. PRESENTATION

Required:• Effective and well-organized visual presentation lasting 5-10 minutes, followed by

presenter responding to any questions from the audience.• Your presentation will include:

• Summary of Research Paper Topic and correlation to you as a "Global Citizen."• Definition of what is "College and Career Readiness."• Three artifacts from the classroom that has prepared you to be College and Career

Ready.• Three artifacts from outside the classroom that has prepared you to be College

and Career Ready.• High School and Beyond Plan (Should already be completed with your counselor)• Preparations to achieve the goals of plan• How your project relates to or supports the plan

• Effective speaking and presentation skills.• PowerPoint, video or document camera to enhance presentation.

Timeline Due Dates

November 15th-Senior Class Meeting to discuss CulminatingProject

March 5th_Mr. Patton will meet with each 2nd Semester C.W.P.class to discuss presentation outline and answer questions.

May 23rd- Mr. Patton will meet individually with every 2nd

Semester C.W.P. student to check for progress.

May 31st_ Hard Copy of Presentation turned into main office or

google doc. shared (preferred) with Mr. Patton

June 5th and 6th- Culminating Project Presentations for 2nd

semester C.W.P. students
