Robert Pera has served as Chairman and Controlling Owner of the Grizzlies since 2012. Pera has made significant investments into the Grizzlies, and under his stewardship, the organization has experienced unprecedented success, including a club-record 56-win season and the club’s first

appearance in the Western Conference Finals. The Grizzlies have also won more playoff games during Pera’s tenure than in the 17 seasons prior. More importantly, Pera has stayed true to his commitment to “make a positive and meaningful difference in the community,” becoming a strong supporter of the Grizzlies Foundation. Understanding the power of sport to transform lives, particularly those of children at risk, the Grizzlies Foundation has invested significantly in: increasing the number of high school graduates prepared for success in college and the workforce; enabling positive adult mentors to engage in youth mentoring and development; and ensuring that all Memphians have access to healthy exercise spaces. The Grizzlies are the first professional sports team ever to receive the prestigious President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition Award in recognition of exemplary service to the broader community.

Pera, who grew up in Silicon Valley and established his first computer services company at the age of 16, founded Ubiquiti Inc., a next-generation, global communications technology company, with $30,000 of his personal savings. Pera saw an opportunity to enhance existing 802.11 WiFi technology such that it could be used to bring the internet to underserved areas (e.g., rural areas and developing regions) lacking the infrastructure to access the internet through traditional avenues. Ubiquiti has since successfully expanded into new market segments (e.g., enterprise-class networking equipment and consumer electronics). Under Pera’s leadership, Ubiquiti has made meaningful progress towards closing the digital divide. Ubiquiti’s community of grass roots operators have connected millions of people to the Internet in some of the most remote regions in the world. Pera continues to serve as Ubiquiti’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, roles for which he does not receive any equity compensation. Pera has received numerous accolades and widespread media recognition, including Top 10 “Young and Powerful CEOs under 40” and Top 10 “Youngest Billionaires in the World.” Pera earned a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Language, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, all from the University of California, San Diego. Upon graduating, he accepted a position as a hardware engineer at Apple where he worked until leaving to launch Ubiquiti.

professional and amateur scouting, draft preparations, player acquisitions, salary cap management, team operations and sports medicine programming.

Shortly after his promotion to lead Basketball Operations in April 2019, Kleiman hired Taylor Jenkins as head coach and acquired Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke in the 2019 NBA Draft. Morant, the 2019-20 NBA Rookie of the Year, and Clarke were each named to the 2019-20 NBA All-Rookie First Team, and the duo represented the Grizzlies alongside 2018-19 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection Jaren Jackson Jr. at the NBA Rising Stars as part of NBA All-Star Weekend 2020.

Kleiman served the Grizzlies as Assistant General Manager during the 2018-19 season. In this role, he participated in strategic efforts of the front office (including those related to salary cap management and the Collective Bargaining Agreement), handled various negotiations on behalf of the group and served as the team’s primary liaison to the NBA on basketball operations-related matters. Kleiman joined the organization in 2015 as the team’s in-house legal counsel and worked in this capacity in addition to his responsibilities with the basketball operations department. In his role as team counsel, he was responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements and providing guidance in connection with a broad range of business and basketball matters. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Kleiman practiced law at Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm based in New York. At Proskauer, Kleiman represented clients in the sports industry – including the National Basketball Association, Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball and the Buffalo Bills – in connection with a wide array of corporate matters, including team acquisitions and sales, financings, media rights, sponsorships and other commercial transactions. Kleiman began his career in professional sports with internships with the then-Charlotte Bobcats (Basketball Operations), Oakland Raiders (Legal), Los Angeles Lakers (Public Relations) and New York Knicks (Basketball Operations). Kleiman earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern California and his J.D. from the Duke University School of Law.

    LANDERS CENTER

The Hustle will play 24 home games at Landers Center in Southaven, Miss., this season. The facility is a multi-functional arena capable of hosting a wide variety of events each year.

The arena contains two Daktronics HD video-wall units and a state of the art sound and video system, reasonable concession prices, an ample amount of restrooms, and comfortable seating that will provide all guests an ideal surrounding to watch an event.

Landers Center complex features three unique venues within the edifice. First, there is a 10,000-seat arena where big names such as Motley Crue, Fantasia, Thomas Rhett, Mary J Blige and Eric Church’s Holdin’ My Own tour have packed the house with adoring fans in a festive mood.

Next, Landers Center contains a 17,000-square foot convention center that hosts over 300 events annually, including trade shows, weddings, banquets, and galas. The convention center has a 1,200-banquet style guest capacity. Landers Center also has a full service, in-house banquet, catering, and concession department.

Finally, the Landers Center Theatre is the site of movies, musicals, and community-based theatrical performances. The theatre, which can seat 404 guests, has hosted memorable shows such as The Little Mermaid, Oklahoma, Meet Me in St. Louis and The Diary of Anne Frank all put on locally by DeSoto Family Theater.

Arguably one of the busiest entertainment venues in the region, Landers Center administrators never let their plethora of events keep the public from being fully informed about happenings at the facility. Landers Center offers a backstage pass program which provides news, updates, and emails about upcoming shows and events of interest. Subscribers can register on the center’s website and become privy to exclusive information.

Three tenants call Landers Center home including the Hustle, the Mid-South Fair and the DeSoto Family Theatre.

    NBA G LEAGUE

The NBA Gatorade League, or NBA G League, is the NBA’s official minor league, preparing players, coaches, officials, trainers and front office staff for the NBA while acting as the league’s research and development laboratory.

Beginning with the 2017-18 season, the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) was renamed the NBA G League as part of a multiyear expanded partnership between the NBA and Gatorade. This marks the first time a U.S. professional sports league has named an entitlement partner.

The NBA G League played its inaugural season in 2001-02 as the National Basketball Development League, with eight teams based primarily in the Southeastern United States. Since its inception, the league has grown to 28 teams, featuring a reach stretching from Greater Los Angeles to Maine. Each team represents a single affiliation with a parent NBA club.

At the start of the 2019-20 season, an all-time high of 42 percent of players on 2019-20 NBA start-of-season rosters have NBA G League experience. The 208 players break the previous mark of 198 that was set last season. Additionally, every NBA team has at least three NBA G League veterans on its start of season roster. More than half of NBA teams (18/30) have at least seven NBA G League veterans on their start of season rosters.
