EMMANUEL GUIGON – DIRECTOR OF THE MUSEU PICASSO

A museum’s programme is always called upon to affirm a museum’s unique character in relation to its history, context and collection. In the case of the Museu Picasso this collection is particularly exceptional, focused as it is on the early education and first years of the artist’s career, for which it is the worldwide centre of reference. This perspective should also integrate the public into the life of the museum, as it optimizes all tasks in research and promotion under its control.

1

It is important to create annual events, organizing a prestigious exhibition yearly on an original subject that might attract a diverse set of visitors, both local and from abroad, if possible in collaboration with one or more other national or international institutions. In parallel to this and to complete our programming, medium-scaled temporary exhibitions should be organized in relation to thematic exhibitions, so as to highlight and accent unknown or more complex aspects of the Museu Picasso collection. Such diversity in programming should always encourage the broadest range of visitors.

It is further essential to find a balance between thematic and monographic shows, on the one hand, and between blockbuster exhibits and those focused on discovery and research, on the other hand. Despite the great number of exhibitions organized yearly on the work of Picasso, it is key to produce and coproduce shows that are original and unique, as the Museu Picasso has done in the past. So as to renew perceptions of Picasso, we must propose revived and more global perceptions of him, along with multidisciplinary readings of his work, as seen with the upcoming Picasso’s Kitchen.

Another leading concern is to propose a direct relationship between Picasso’s work and contemporary creation. Through programs of our own creation, we are dedicated to encouraging radical dialogue on 21st-century culture, always in relation to Picasso. Who is constructing the discourses of contemporaneity through creation in the fields of visual art, digital art, speculative design, music and literature? The museum has both the capacity and the responsibility to build an experimental component into its exhibition programs and activities, developing new forms that might include contemporary creation in the programming. The contamination

of museum spaces in proposals for installations and performances is clearly a highly advantageous exploratory path, opening the museum up to new visitor profiles.

PICASSO’S KITCHEN – FROM 25/05/18 TO 30/09/18

PICASSO’S RESTAURANTS

One of the subjects that will be considered in the exhibition Picasso’s Kitchen is the importance of restaurants as meeting points for the avant-garde, from Els Quatre Gats in Barcelona to the Lapin Agile high on Montmartre, where bohemians of the time met along with Picasso’s group of colleagues. Here then, the mythical restaurants in the painter’s life are presented, such as the famous Le Catalan, found quite close to his studio on Grands-Augustins in Paris, where Picasso went to eat with his friends during the German Occupation.

STILL LIFES

Culinary utensils and cooking ingredients are the main features of many still lifes, which take on a variety of styles. Running from more aesthetically joyful representations to the metaphor of scarcity and fear during the German Occupation, these still lifes run

parallel to the artist’s career and the historical context. It is not unusual, therefore, to see the tomato plant from Grands-Augustins in a painting, or an image of an eel stew prepared by Jacqueline in another.

ICONOGRAPHY AND CULINARY REFERENCES IN THE POETIC AND THEATRICAL WRITING OF PICASSO Cooking and food are at the centre of Picasso’s iconographic and sensory world. His poetic writings and his theatre pieces put greater emphasis on the kitchen space and what is done there, along with

kitchen utensils and culinary ingredients. Running in parallel to painted references to fruit and vegetables, we see the primordial role of the kitchen in the artist’s creative action and process.

THE KITCHEN, A CENTRAL METAPHOR FOR THE CREATIVE ACT

Related as it is to time and to eroticism, and with an undeniable anthropological dimension, the kitchen opens up to us Picasso the artist and Picasso the man, with equal intensity.

Food, a veritable cultural syncretism, is in the case of Picasso a source of unconscious desires, thus constituting an unmatchable metaphorical language.

COLLABORATION WITH FERRAN ADRIÀ

The new space dedicated to contemporary art that was opened at the Museu Picasso last year will feature an intervention by Ferran Adrià, in conjunction with this exhibition.

THE CATALOGUE: PICASSO’S KITCHEN

On the occasion of this exhibition a detailed, illustrated catalogue will be published. With more than 300 pages, the publication will feature texts by 13 authors: Emmanuel Guigon, Claustre Rafart, Androula Michael, Ferran Adrià, Brigitte Léal, Laurence Bertrand-Dorléac, Jean-Paul Morel, Cécile Godefroy, Marie-Laure Bernadac, Jèssica Jaques Pi, Christine Piot, Coline Zellal and Émilie Bouvard.

PICASSO-MEDITERRANEAN The exhibition Picasso’s Kitchen is part of Picasso Mediterranean, an initiative of the Musée national Picasso-Paris.

Picasso Mediterranean is an international cultural event to be held from Spring 2017 to Spring 2019. More than sixty institutions have created programmes related to the “obstinately Mediterranean” work of Pablo Picasso (as Jean Leymarie described it). An initiative of the Musée national Picasso-Paris, this review of the artist’s work and the places that inspired it offers an unprecedented cultural experience

seeking to strengthen the connections between all shores of the Mediterranean.

THE MUSEU PICASSO OF BARCELONA WILL EXHIBIT IMPRESSIONIST AND SYMBOLIST PIECES FROM THE MUSÉE D’ORSAY IN PARIS.

THESE WORKS WILL ENABLE THE PUBLIC TO FULLY APPRECIATE THE IMPACT HIS FIRST TWO VISITS TO PARIS HAD ON YOUNG PICASSO.

PICASSO DISCOVERS PARIS – FROM 18/09/18 TO 06/01/19

IMPRESSIONIST AND SYMBOLIST WORK

In the middle of September, the Museu Picasso of Barcelona will open an exhibition featuring work by Bartholomé, Carrière, Delacroix, Manet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Capiello, Degas, Cézanne, Steinlen and Gauguin, amongst others, all coming from the permanent collection of the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée national Picasso Paris. The exhibit, entitled Picasso Discovers Paris, will be open to the public from 18 September 2018 to 6 January 2019.

The exhibition is the result of the exchange of works on loan from the Museu Picasso for the exhibit Picasso bleu et rose, to be held at Paris’ Musée d’Orsay, organized by

the Musée national Picasso in Paris. This show puts the accent on Picasso’s admiration for various artists in the Paris scene at the very start of the 20th century.

The selection of work has been made on the basis of the review written by Felicien Fagus on the occasion of an exhibition at Galerie Vollard, which was published in Revue Blanche on 15 July 1901, and it also includes the works by Picasso with references to other artists. Picasso had seen these artists’ works in person for the first time in Paris, and they are here related to pieces from the Museu Picasso collection.

PICASSO DISCOVERS PARIS – FROM 18/09/18 TO 06/01/19

STAGES IN PARIS

Picasso visited Paris for the first time in the autumn of 1900. On that trip he discovered the work of many artists at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1900, in private galleries, and through attractive posters hung in the streets. Between 1900 and 1904 Picasso alternated between periods in Paris, Madrid and especially Barcelona. At that time, he examined himself especially through the modern art that was being made in the French capital, with special attention to artistic movements like Impressionism, Les Nabis and Symbolism.

INFLUENCES ON YOUNG PICASSO

The phrase by the critic Felicien Fagus, on the occasion of the exhibition by Picasso and Iturrino at Galerie Vollard in June 1901, ably summarises the direct and indirect influences on the young Picasso: “It is not difficult to determine his many probable influences from amongst those great predecessors, like Delacroix, Manet (who it would seem goes a bit with the Spaniards), Monet, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Forain, Rops perhaps… Each used in passing, left to fly free as soon as it was captured.” Apart from these possible influences, Picasso paid attention to other sources, such as Bartholomé, Puvis de Chavannes and Carrière, as can been seen in the drawings made during his first period in Paris.

PABLO PICASSO AND THE PUBLISHERS GUSTAVO GILI – FROM 23/11/18 TO 24/02/19

THE GUSTAU GILI AND ANNA MARIA TORRA ARCHIVE AND THE DOCUMENTARY ARCHIVE OF EDITORIAL GUSTAVO GILI

In 2014 the Museu Picasso acquired this archive, made up of a body of works and documents which highlight the painter’s relationship with this Barcelona publisher. This historical archive is of great importance, as it provides us with essential information on the relationship between Picasso and Barcelona, especially during the second half of the 20th century, the final decades of the artist’s life. The works and documents found here testify to the work of the artist and the editors, as well as confirming the friendship between the two couples, Pablo and Jacqueline with Gustau and Anna. Over the past few years the Museu Picasso has properly documented this archive, concerning itself with the conservation of the new artistic material and studying its content. It is highly useful in explaining Picasso’s creative processes, his printmaking (a strong point of the museum) and the

valuable work carried out by Gustavo Gili publishing house, which is now ready for public presentation. The exhibition highlights Pablo Picasso’s relationship with two generations of publishers at Gustavo Gili, with the city of Barcelona as the backdrop. The show details two stages in this relationship. The first began in the decade of the 1920s, when the founder of the publishing house, Gustavo Gili Roig, made contact with the artist with the idea of initiating a new line of publications for bibliophiles called La Cometa. Gili Roig put himself at the helm of this new adventure in publishing for book lovers, something that had not been seen in Spain until that time. With him, two important men were brought into the project: the writer and journalist Agustí Calvet, known as “Gaziel”, and the book binder Ermengol Alsina Munné.

PABLO PICASSO AND THE PUBLISHERS GUSTAVO GILI – FROM 23/11/18 TO 24/02/19

PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH PICASSO The professional relationship between publishers Gustavo Gili and Pablo Picasso began with the first commission they made to him, involving the illustration of the treatise by José Delgado, alias “Pepe Illo” (or “Hillo”), La Tauromaquia o Arte de torear [Tauromachy, or the Art of Bullfighting]. At the beginning of the 1930s, and for no apparent reason, the project was halted, even though the artist had already done a series of prints for the project. The second stage began in 1956, when the son of the founder, Gustavo Gili Esteve, came into contact with Picasso to revive the project initiated by his father. This

was the beginning of a long and fruitful professional bond, which would soon become a great friendship as well. A variety of publishing projects were developed during this new period. In the production of books for modern bibliophiles, a highlight was the illustration of three works: La Tauromaquia o Arte de torear de Pepe Hillo (Illo) (1959), featuring a set of sugar-lift aquatints, which led to one of his most collaborative illustrated books, Picasso il·lustrador [Picasso Illustrator]; and El Entierro del Conde de Orgaz [The Burial of the Count of Orgaz] (1969), where Picasso created images to accompany his own text.

PABLO PICASSO AND THE PUBLISHERS GUSTAVO GILI – FROM 23/11/18 TO 24/02/19

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH PICASSO

Little by little, a truly loyal friendship was forged between Picasso and his wife Jacqueline Roque, and Gustavo Gili Esteve and his wife Anna Maria Torra Amat. The relationship was particularly bonded by the role played by the two women.

This exhibition presents for the first time an overall perspective of the Gustau Gili and Anna Maria Torra Archive, acquired by the museum in 2014, as well as a selection from the documentary material proceeding from the Editorial Gustavo Gili

Donation of that same year. It is complemented by works from national and foreign museums and archives, along with works from private collections. The relationship between Picasso and the Gili family had Barcelona as its setting, a city with an important tradition in publishing. As is widely known, Picasso had lived in the city and would forever be united to it through family and friends. The exhibition is thus structured around this indivisible triangle: Picasso-Gili-Barcelona.

THE CATALOGUE: PABLO PICASSO AND THE PUBLISHERS GUSTAVO GILI

The exhibition catalogue provides a window into the collaboration between Pablo Picasso and the Gustavo Gili publishing house, which resulted in outstanding results for bibliophiles and equally memorable projects done in other areas of publishing. Quite beyond the professional realm, the relationship between the two men took on a personal character, as the publishers and Picasso became friends. The catalogue further presents the works acquired by the Museu Picasso,

proceeding from the collection of Anna Maria Torra Amat and Gustau Gili Esteve. These highly relevant archival holdings include many drawings and dedications, material that for the most part has never been seen before, bearing witness to their friendship. The catalogue will feature contributions from specialists in the world of art and bibliophilism: Emmanuel Guigon, Daniel Giralt-Miracle, Germán Masid Valiñas, Androula Michael,

Through more than twenty published texts on Picasso, Sabartés became a promoter of aspects of the artist that would have been difficult to find out about if it had not been for his front and centre point of view, experienced on a daily basis. With this project the museum seeks to

contribute to consolidating the biography of Sabartés, whose life continues to be rather unknown. The exhibit will feature a selection of portraits Picasso made of Sabartés during their many years as friends.

These portraits were done in a variety of techniques, including painting, drawing and printmaking, but also in literary form.

PORTRAITS OF JAUME SABARTÉS

The exhibition will also show portraits of Sabartés as made by other artist friends from the Americas: Carlos Valenti, Rafael Rodríguez Padilla, Rodolfo Valladares and Miguel Arcángel de León. It also features portraits by photographers who were part of Picasso’s circle, including Edward Quinn, David Douglas Duncan and Alexander Liberman.

The exhibition also includes archival material, including

photographs, documents and personal objects, as well as a selection from the correspondence between Sabartés and Picasso.

The publishing projects carried out by Sabartés on the subject of Picasso take on particular relevance in the exhibit, as all the books are shown in context, with the documentation held in the Sabartés archive illuminating each particular case.

SABARTÉS BY PICASSO BY SABARTÉS – FROM 23/11/18 TO 24/02/19

SABARTÉS AND PICASSO: PATRONS OF THE MUSEU PICASSO OF BARCELONA

The third aspect considered in the exhibition is the vital transcendence of this friendship for the creation of the Museu Picasso of Barcelona, which was inaugurated on 9 March 1963, when the Franco regime was still going strong. The original name was Sabartés Collection, and it was essential for understanding Picasso’s relationship to Barcelona. Jaume Sabartés worked as a kind of gatekeeper who was able to open the doors to many Catalans who wanted to have contact with Picasso. The Gaspar cousins (Joan and

Miquel), Joan Vidal Ventosa and the Reventós family were paradigmatic examples of this interest.

The title of the exhibition, Sabartés by Picasso by Sabartés, suggests the circular nature of this shared biography, which began in Barcelona and is best expressed in a book by Jaume Sabartés, Picasso, retratos y recuerdos [Picasso: Portraits and Memories]: through the description of portraits Picasso made of him, Sabartés writes about the artist’s life and work, where the presence of Sabartés is constant.

THE CATALOGUE: SABARTÉS BY PICASSO BY SABARTÉS

The exhibition catalogue faces the challenge of being the first monograph dedicated to Jaume Sabartés from the general perspective of his own life. In 1981, Luis Luján Muñoz wrote and published in Guatemala a biographical account of the years that Sabartés had spent in that country, from 1904 to 1927. Various articles have also been published on specific aspects of Sabartés’ life, yet there is no monograph which has proposed to take on his biography in a more general manner.

The catalogue will feature texts by Emmanuel Guigon (Director of the Museu Picasso), Margarida Casacuberta (University of Girona), Fatiha Idmhand (University of Poitiers), Margarida Cortadella (Museu Picasso), Malén Gual (Museu Picasso), Claustre Rafart (Museu Picasso), Claustre Rafart (Museu Picasso) and Sílvia Domènech (Museu Picasso).

CHEFS-D’ŒUVRE – EXHIBITION HORS MURS

In July 2017 the research and documentation protocols were initiated for the presentation of the Science and Charity restoration project. The restoration work itself began last November, and it is expected that it will be finished before the summer of 2018. This restoration project is bolstered by the general knowledge culled from scientific research, both in determining the painting’s state of conservation and in selecting and applying working procedures.

During the autumn of 2018 the painting Science and Charity will be presented at the exhibition Chefs-d’œuvre at the Musée national Picasso-Paris, along with various other works related to the creative process giving rise to it. This masterpiece from Picasso’s formative years will be found in the first gallery of the show, where together with oil paintings and other related drawings, the results of the technical studies will also be presented. The Restoration Department of the Museu Picasso of Barcelona will be responsible for the Paris presentation and its content.

STUDIES AND RESEARCH

ADVANCED CENTRE FOR PICASSO STUDIES AND RESEARCH – MPB

This is an original project for the creation and development of an international academic university programme based at the Museu Picasso, under the responsibility of Emmanuel Guigon, PhD, and Jèssica Jaques, PhD, with the collaboration of Androula Michael. The aim of the project is to create a network of Catalan, Spanish, French, European, American and other sites where university programs are offered on Picasso, and/or carry out research, masters of doctoral projects related to Picasso studies in the broadest conception of the term. This network will also include research groups at Picasso museums and at centres with Picasso collections and projects.

The Museu Picasso will become the central hub of this

network, setting up collaboration agreements with each of the institutions involved.

The ultimate aim of this project is to activate and link together teaching programs for undergraduate degrees, masters and doctorates, as well as encourage final degree, masters and PhD projects on Picasso, to be co-tutored by university professors and team members at Picasso-related museums or their equivalents. Further to this, a new programme will be designed for an Official Master of the European Higher Education Area, with the intervention of all the institutions involved, along with a related doctoral program.

STUDIES AND RESEARCH

ORAL MEMORY PICASSO

This project involves creating a more detailed archive of oral history on Picasso. The project seeks to produce a set of audio (or audio-visual) sources, so as to serve as a tool for international research and knowledge, making it possible to preserve individual memories and elaborate new narratives about Picasso. These sources will bring together the oral testimony of witnesses to the life, work and career of Picasso, through interviews, conversations and

specifically planned and focused visits. The project will be done in collaboration with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Musée National Picasso-Paris. Choices regarding research projects, the people interviewed and working protocols will be mutually agreed to by all three institutions. The principle and priority research project for the Museu Picasso of Barcelona is related to the artist’s ties to Barcelona.

PICASSO CHRONOLOGY AND COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

In the context of the collaboration agreement signed between the Museu Picasso of Barcelona and the Musée national Picasso-Paris, this year the research teams of both museums will begin the elaboration of a unified, corroborated and documented chronology of the life and work of Picasso. The aim is that the result might become the chronology of reference for all researchers, thus eliminating persistent

contradictions and uncertainties with regards to the far-reaching bibliography related to Picasso.

The team of the Museu Picasso of Barcelona will apply its knowledge and research to Picasso’s youth (Malaga, La Coruña, Barcelona and Madrid), his various stays in Barcelona and other places around Catalonia, and the relationship between the artist and the city of Barcelona.

STUDIES AND RESEARCH

CATALAN PICASSO NETWORK

For the beginning of 2019 there is a plan to initiate the establishment of a Picasso Network in Catalonia. In this regard, during 2017 a collaboration agreement was established with the Fundació Palau in Caldes d’Estrac, expressed through a number of events, such as: sessions at the 3rd International Congress Picasso and Identity; the performance of La llavor de l’amor [The Seed of Love], with literary, poetic and Picasso-related texts by Josep Palau i Fabre, performed by Montse Guallar and Max Sunyer and presented in various venues in Catalonia, in a production by Òmnium Cultural; and the organization of a show based on Poemes de l’Alquimista [Poems of the Alchemist] by Palau i Fabre, which has yet to premiere due to the unexpected passing away of the play’s director, Moisès Maicas.

At the same time, the Picasso Network is being fortified by

collaborations with the Catalan towns where Pablo Picasso spent time. Participants include the Picasso Centre in Horta de Sant Joan, where the artist visited on more than one occasion, the Museu Thermalia in Caldes de Montbui, which has an important collection of work by the sculptor Manolo Hugué, the municipal Picasso Centre in Gósol, as well as cities in the nearby French region of Roussillon, including Ceret, Perpignan and Collioure.

Bernard Plossu, National Prize for Photography in France and one of the greatest active European photographers, will do a report on various Catalan sites related to Picasso. Afterwards, the Museu Picasso and the other participating institutions will exhibit this body of work, with the likely publication of a catalogue.

STUDIES AND RESEARCH

INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION CENTRE OF THE MUSEU PICASSO

The initiation of a strategic model for information has been an essential factor for the Museu Picasso Research Centre. With the goal of shaping and structuring all related information, documentation and knowledge, making it accessible and exploring its full potential, it is essential to have a technological platform that is respectful towards the basic principles of work and access to information and documentation, capacitated to manage all knowledge, enabling it to interact with all citizens and with the professional community.

With the current organizational level of the museum’s documentary holdings and after various studies and consultations related to a solution and integrating system for the later implementation of an information management software (ECM – Enterprise Content Management), in 2018 this project will be launched. It will feature the selection and later implementation of a tool for the management of digital assets from a business perspective, broadening access to our documentary holdings.

COSMOLOGY FOR PICASSO’S TIES TO BARCELONA

The task begun with the domain ontology Picasso exhibition 1936 will continue, with the aim of creating an ontology on Picasso to bring together what is already in existence, broadening it with the construction of the domain referred to as Barcelona’s ties to Picasso.

An ontology (or, better said, cosmology) is an explicit

formalization of a shared conceptual scheme. That is, it is a tool providing us with the computer engineering we need to experiment in new forms of structuring and formalising information. It does this by relating this information semantically, as humans do, and as a consequence makes it possible for knowledge to be shared. The purpose of this cosmology, therefore, is to

Page 31: TABLE OF CONTENTS - Barcelonaw110.bcn.cat/museupicasso/sites/default/files/museupicasso_program2018... · museu picasso barcelona 1 table of contents emmanuel guigon, director of

construct a conceptual layout based on the link between Picasso and Barcelona, making it possible to share this knowledge and create new

forms. The proposal is to work together with the Computer Vision Center of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

RESTORATION AND PREVENTATIVE CONSERVATION RESTORATION OF SCIENCE AND CHARITY Over the course of 2018 the scientific and technical study of the painting Science and Charity will be finished, along with the smaller-format works related to it. Up to now various studies have been carried out: gigaphoto; x-ray; cleaning tests; and sampling of the materials found on the artwork. In January a technical expert from the Italian National Research Council’s Nello Carrara Institute of Applied Physics (IFAC) (Florence, Italy) visited the museum to scan the painting with infrared spectroscopy.

With this technique the museum seeks to acquire information on the deeper layers of the painting and the process whereby the work was executed. Other techniques will also be applied, such as RTI (Reflectance Transforming Imaging), which is meant to reveal the different patterns of alterations in the pictorial layer. In the summer of 2018 the conclusions on the restoration of Science and Charity will be published, with a formal presentation of the results set for Paris at the end of August.

RESTORATION AND PREVENTATIVE CONSERVATION PROMESA PROJECT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES In February 2018 a poster presentation will be made at the 19th Contemporary Art Conservation Conference at MNCARS (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía), on the subject of the mechanical behaviour of the paintings from 1917. The poster bears the title Con permiso de Picasso. Estudio de las propiedades mecánicas y dimensionales de los materiales de la pintura

comercial y su influencia en los mecanismos de degradación en obra moderna y contemporània [With Picasso’s Permission: Study of the Mechanical and Dimensional Properties of Commercial Paint and Their Influence on Mechanisms of Degradation in Modern and Contemporary Artworks].

http://www.museoreinasofia.es/actividades/19a-jornada-conservacion-arte-contemporaneo SEMINAR: THE CONSERVATION OF MATERIALS IN THE WORK OF PICASSO In November 2018 a seminar will take place at the Museu Picasso, The Conservation of Materials in the Work of Picasso. The seminar is being organized in collaboration with the ProMeSA Project research group, and will

feature the collaboration of leading researchers on the subject of the alteration of pictorial materials. The museum, for its part, will present a practical case study based on the collection.

GRAPHOLOGICAL STUDY

The museum has recently initiated the systematic study of the evolution of the brushstroke in Picasso’s signature. The revision of the drawings will be done in chronological order, beginning with the works done in La Coruña. A simultaneous study will be done of the damaged signature on Science and Charity, a painting which is currently being restored.

VACCA AT THE MUSEU PICASSO

AN ACOUSTIC PROJECT BY VACCA AT THE PATI FINESTRES OF THE MUSEU PICASSO

From 9 March to 1 April 2018

In consonance with the contemporary art interventions begun at the Museu Picasso last year, and on occasion of the museum’s anniversary, 9 March 1963, we present an installation in celebration of the institution’s inauguration, which at that time was a controversial event for Barcelona’s cultural renewal.

Temporal is a sound installation adapted to the space of the Pati Finestres of the Museu Picasso of Barcelona, designed by the artist Vacca.

The installation consists of a simulation of storm conditions which seem to be drawing closer, by means of a variety of devices for sound reproduction and distribution, arranged in the courtyard.

The various meanings of the word “storm” come into play

in this installation, from a weather condition to the cultural storm that art might give rise to. It also suggests the ephemeral characteristics of this specific project and of sound art in general. Furthermore, it should also be recalled that the term temporal is also an adjective (meaning “temporary”) that could be applied to the many artistic projects and exhibitions museums organize.

In this regard, Temporal will be shown in the Pati Finestres, the area of the Museu Picasso dedicated to temporary exhibitions.

Vacca (Granollers, 1954) is an artist who has been active for a long period of time. He has worked for more than 30 years on the margins of conceptual art, experimenting with sound effects as an artistic medium.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES

DRAWING FRONT AND CENTRE: WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS BY JOMA AND IRMA ARRIBAS

This winter the museum offers two workshops for adults centred on drawing, with the aim of exploring the museum collection from this perspective. The workshops are also meant to present the possibilities of drawing to people with experience and to those who have never been

trained to draw as well. Drawing as a tool for exploration and social transformation will be the subject Joma will base his workshop on, while Irma Arribas will explore strategies to overcome the fear of taking on a blank page, pencil in hand.

DRAWING FOR ADULTS WORKSHOP, WITH JOMA: FOUR SESSIONS AND A FINAL CONCERT

“DRAWING IN TRANSFORMATION”, with Joma

Thursdays 15 and 22 February, and 1 and 8 March, from 5.30 pm to 8 pm, with a final performance on 15 March at 7 pm. This performance will be open to the public.

The workshop will feature the theme of forced displacements, as related to the concepts of migration, death and the sea, journeys and borders, rejection and acceptation, with the project Uns i altres [Some and Others] as the applied reference point.

Each session will use a work from the collection of the Museu Picasso as its starting point.

Joma is a visual artist with a long career dedicated to illustration in relation to public opinion and thought in the press. He has published a profound reworking of the Homeric myth, in La Odisea (2007-2009) and La Ilíada (2009-2013). In his self-published book project Dits de Rosa, with eight volumes released, he gathers press clippings along with other content that has never been published.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES

ARTISTIC TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP, WITH IRMA ARRIBAS (FOUR SESSIONS)

“AFRAID? NOT ME!” WITH IRMA ARRIBAS

Thursdays 5, 12, 19 and 26 April, from 5.30 pm to 8 pm

Drawing is an activity that can only be done without fear, using any medium possible and out of the need to communicate.

This workshop seeks to develop skills and strategies for free drawing, using dynamics and contexts so as to provoke established discourses, prioritizing drawing as an action instead of conceiving it in terms of results.

Irma Arribas has a PhD in Architecture. Founder and

user of BAAANG (Base de Accionamiento Arquitectónico No Garantizado [Base of Non-Guaranteed Architectural Activation]), she works in the fields of education, research and design. She is professor of undergraduate and master’s studies at various architecture and design schools (ETSAB, ETSAM and IED). Arribas is also a designer of spatial narratives, working with the image (drawn or spatialized) and the word (oral or written) for social and critical communication.

ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE EXHIBITION PICASSO’S KITCHEN
