Usingyour thumb, liftup theblackplastic tabso that itunlocks fromthecartridgebody.Rotatetheentireblackpiecetowardyou.Thiswillrevealatonerfillingport.

Beforeopeningthebottleoftoner,turnitupsidedownandtapitonatabletoloosenthetonerandallowittoflowfreely.Removethecapandpullthesealoffthebottle.Attachthefunnelcapmakingtosureitisontightly.Tiltthefunnelcaptowardthefillingholeandinsertitintothehole.Ifthetonerstopsflowingbeforethecartridgeisfull,simplyremovethetoner,closethecap,turnthebottleupsidedownandtapitonatable.Oncethecartridge is full, twist theentireblackplasticpieceawayfromyouuntil the tablocksbackinplace.

Installing Reset Gear on Starter CartridgesUsingtheillustrationbelowasaguide,removethe3screwsindicatedwithredarrows.Oncethescrewshavebeenre-moved,carefullyandgentlydetachthesidepanel.

Thepictureontherightshowshowthegearshouldbesetonceithasbeenplacedwithinthepanel.Toinsertthegearinthispanel,slidetheflag(whichisthelongestpartofthegear)throughtherightsideopening(greenarrowonrightside)andthenslidethegeartotheleft.Onceyouhavedonethis,holdtheflaginplaceandplacethepanelbackonthecartridge.Placethescrewsbackinplaceandyourcartridgeisreadytobeused.

Resetting the counter (Reset Gear)Usingtheillustrationbelowasaguide,removethe2screwsindicatedwithredcircles.Oncethescrewshavebeenremoved,carefullyandgently(withaFlatheadscrewdriver)unlockthesidepanelandremovethesidecap.

Afterremovingthesidepanel(asinstructedontheleft);The2picturesontherightshowhowthegearshouldbesetinordertoresetthecounter.Carefullyremovethegearandthepinholdingitinplace.Turnthegearclockwiseandreplaceitsothatitmeshesandmatchesthe“ProperlyReset”picturetotheright.Re-installthepinsothatitholdsthegeardown.Oncethegearhasbeenreset,re-installthesidecap,andplacethescrewsfirmlybackinplace.Yourcartridgeisreadytobeused.

Usingthescrewdriver,removethescrewsonthesideofthecartridgesothatthesealingplugcanberevealed(PictureA.).Onceyouhavelo-catedthesealingplug,usetheflatheadscrewdrivertogentlyloosenthesealingplug(PictureB..).Withtheneedlenosepliers,gently,butforce-fullypulltheplugcompletelyoffthecartridge.Iftheplughappenstobentorcrack,youmayuseelectricaltapeorducttapetosecurelysealthecracksorbentsonceyouhavereplacedtheplugattheendoftherefillprocess.

Emptyanytonerleftinsidethecartridge(mixingtwodifferentbrandsoftonercouldresultinbadprinting,andunpredictableresults).

Beforeopeningthebottleoftoner,turnitupsidedownandtapitonatable to loosen the tonerandallow it toflowfreely.Remove thecapandpullthesealoffthebottle.Attachthefunnelcapmakingtosureitisontightly.Tiltthecartridgeata45degreeangleandthenthefunnelcaptowardthefillingholeandinsertitintothehole.Ifthetonerstopsflowingbeforethecartridgeisfull,simplyremovethetoner,closethecap,turnthebottleupsidedownandtapitonatable.Onceyouaredonerefillingthiscartridge,placethesealingplugbackinitsplaceanduseducttapeorelectricaltapetosealupanynecessarycracksontheplug.

ReplacetheSmartChiponthecartridgebeforeplacingitbackintotheprinter.Thechipmayneedtobepriedfromitslocationgently.Oncethechiphasbeenreplaced,insertthecartridgeintotheprinterandrunafewtestpages.

General Refilling Procedures: ThefirststepinrefillingyourcolorlaserjetHP2600cartridgesistoEMPTYTHEWASTEHOPPER.Thisisanessentialstepbecausewastetonerhasaccumu-latedinthehopper(whichislikeawastecollectionspace).Youcanemptythewastehopperbyusingtheholemakingtooltomakeaholeatthelocationshowninthediagram.Thetoolneedstobepluggedintoanelectricaloutlet,wait1-3minutesforthetooltoheatup(becare-ful-itgetsHOT)andthengentlypushthetipofthetoolagainstthecartridgeinthelocationshownuntilitmakesaniceroundhole.Youneedtoremovetheroundplasticpiecethatisburntoutbythetool.Nowslowlyturnthecartridgeupsidedownoveratrashcollectionbagsothatthewastetonercanemptyout.Whenempty,youcansealthisholeusingelectricaltape.

Makea2ndholeinthecartridgeatthelocationshowninthisdiagram.Makesureyouremovetheroundplasticpiecethatyouburnout.IMPORTANT:Justlikewiththewastehopper,youneedtoEMPTYOUTanyremainingoriginaltonerfromthecartridge. Ourtonermaynotworkaswellifitismixedwiththeoriginaltoner.IfthereisslightmixingthatisOK,justaslongasmostoftheoriginaltonerisgone.Attachthepouringspouttothetonerbottleandfillthecartridge.Sealthefillingholeagainwithelectricaltape.IMPORTANT:DoNOTtrysealingtheholewithaplugasthereisabladeontheinsideofthecartridgethatrotatesandneedstobeabletorotatealmostflushwiththecartridgeshell,sonothingshouldprotrudeintothecartridge. Thechipneedstobereplaced.Thisisalockoutchip,whichmeansthatunlessyoureplacethechiptheprinterwillnotrecognizetherefilledcartridge(itwillrememberitasemptyandpreventyoufromprinting).Inordertoremovetheoriginalchip,youneedtomake2smallcutsintheplasticatthe2pointsontopofthechipthat(seediagram).Thiswillallowthechiptobepushedupandoutbyusingathinflatobjectsuchasaflatscrewdriver.Replacetheoldchipwithanewreplacementchip,andaddatouchofgluetothetoptipsofthechipsothatitsitsfirmlyinplaceagainstthecartridge.

General Procedures:

1. ToreplacethechipontheHP8500Drum,simplyremoveoneoftheendcapsofthecartridge.Thepictureontherightshows4screws(circledinred)thatmustberemovedinordertofullyremovetheendcapthatthechipislocatedon.

2. Onceyouhavesuccessfullyremovedtheendcap,youwillneedtoremovethechipcompartment.Thechipcompartmentishelddownby2screws.Removethesescrewstofreethecompartment.

3. Onceyouhaveremovedthechipcompartment,thebacksideofthecompartmentshouldlooksimilartothepictureabove.Asyoucansee,thechipislocatedatthecenterofthiscompartment.UsingathinFlatheadscrewdriver,loosenthechip,thencompletelyremoveit.YoumaynowreplaceitwiththeUni-kitchipyoureceivedandreassembleeverythingbyreversingthesteps.

IMPORTANT:Thereisaholeonthebottompartofthetonerhopperthatneedstobecoveredwhenrefillingthecartridge.Youcanuseyourthumbtocoverthisholeasyourefillthecartridge.Whenyouaredonerefillingthetonerhopper,plugitwiththelargeplugweprovidedyouwithandplacethetonerhoppersectiondownwiththeholeinpictureDfacingupward.

Thenextsteprequiresyoutoemptythetonerwastehopperwhichislocatedinthebottombacksideofthecartridge(PleaserefertopictureAasareference).PictureAshowsthefrontsideofthewastehoppertobelocatedonthebottomlefthandside.InpictureE.weshowthebacksideofthetonerwastehopper.Withtheholemakingtool,carefullyandcautiously,createaholeinreferencetothebluecircleinpictureE.Onceyouhavecreatedthishole,itissafetounplugthetoolandrestitasideontheholder(Pleasebecautionthatthetoolwillremainveryhotforseveralminutesandisrecommendedforittobeplacedoutofharmsway).Pleaseemptyasmuchofthetoneraspossiblefromthetonerwastehopperthroughtheholeyouhavejustcreated.Onceyouarefinished,plugtheholewiththesmallertonerplugprovidedinyourrefillkitoruseducttape(electricaltapewillalsowork)tosecurelysealthehole.

Lookatyourcartridgeonthesidewiththebluehandle.Determinewhichcartridgeyouhavebythetabonthebluehandle.IfyouhaveaWHITEtab(showonleft)thenyoujustneedtowipethissensordownwithacleanpapertowel.ThissensorneedstobeABSOLUTELYCLEANinorderfortheprintertorec-ognizethecartridge.Youdonotneedtousethepaperresetmethod.IfyouhaveaSILVERtab(shownonright)thenyouwillneedtousetheresetmethodshownbelow.

IMPORTANT: You must dispose of any original toner in the cartridge as much as possible before refilling. If possible, use a vacuum to remove ex-cess toner from the cartridge, or use compress air to carefully and gently blow out any toner inside the toner hopper (Please try to use compressed air in a well ventilated area) for best results. Dispose of toner properly into a trash can. Tocleanthewastesection:Onthesideofthehopperisaspringload-edgate,whichcanbepushedbacktoopenthewastesectiontoallowcleaning.Pourallwastetoneroutanddiscardit.Whenyouhaveemptiedthewastetoner,remembertoplacetheplugbackintoitsplace.

Nowthecartridgecanberefilled.UsingillustrationDasareferencecare-fullyremovethehopperplugbyplacingasmallflatbladescrewdriverbe-hindthelipofthebung,andpryitawayfromthehopperunit.Careshouldbe-takenwhenrefillingthehopperunit,astonercanleakoutofthemaingate,sim-plyplacesometapeoverthegateareawhilstfillingtostopleaking.

Beforeopeningthebottleoftoner,turnitupsidedownandtapitonatabletoloosenthetonerandallowittoflowfreely.Removethecapandpullthesealoffthebottle.Attachthefunnelcapmakingtosureitisontightly.Tiltthecartridgeata45degreeangleandthenthefunnelcaptowardthefillingholeandinsertitintothehole.Ifthetonerstopsflowingbeforethecartridgeisfull,simplyremovethetoner,closethecap,turnthebottleupsidedownandtapitonatable.Onceyouaredonerefillingthiscartridge,replacetheplugbackintoitsplaceandcombinethetonerunitwiththedrumunit.Yourcartridgeisnowreadyforuse.

IMPORTANT: You must dispose of any original toner in the cartridge as much as possible before refilling. Dispose of toner properly into a trash can. Beforeopeningthebottleoftoner,turnitupsidedownandtapitonatabletoloosenthetonerandallowittoflowfreely.Removethecapandpullthesealoffthebottle.Attachthefunnelcapmakingtosureitisontightly.Tiltthefunnelcaptowardthefill-ingholeandinsertitintothehole.Ifthetonerstopsflowingbeforethecartridgeisfull,simplyremovethetoner,closethecap,turnthebottleupsidedownandtapitonatable.Oncethecartridgeisfull,sealtheholewiththeplugbytwistingituntilitiscompletelyseated.Nowgentlyshakethecartridgesidetosidetodistributethetoner.

Replacing the chip

RemovethestickerasshowninillustrationB..Withtheflatheadscrewdriver,popopenthecompartmentandremovetheOEMchip.ReplacewiththenewUni-kitcompatiblechip.

Note: The Xerox 7450 toner cartridge may look different than the pictures to the right, however, the refilling method is the same. Both the 7400 and 7450 have a removable plug and chip that can be found in a similar compartment.

Please keep in mind that a plug might not be an option for your cartridge. There are mechanisms that may prevent the plug from sealing the hole properly or interfering with other parts inside. In cases like this, duct tape would be a better option to seal the hole.
