Welcome Letter from the IIUG President On behalf of the International Informix Users Group Board of Directors and Conference Planning Committee, welcome to beautiful southern California and the 2012 IIUG Informix Conference. This year we are excited to have Jerry Keesee, Worldwide Director of the IBM / Informix Development Lab open the conference. No one works harder for the Informix product and as the old EF Hutton commercial used to say: When Jerry talks, we listen. Tuesday morning we are especially lucky to listen to David Barnes of IBM. Now most of you may say: Who is David Barnes? Well, David is one of the top specialists of IBM on the latest hype of Big Data. Now I am not saying David is “big Hype” but I have personally heard him speak and it was that one time that I thought he would be a great keynote speaker. I mean he is the only person at IBM who has shared the stage with the likes of the late great Steve Jobs, Henry Kissinger and Lady Gaga! We are pleased to welcome our favorite General Manager, Dr Arvind Krishna, General Manager of IBM Information Management to start the day on Wednesday. Also with Arvind will be Martin Wildberger, Vice President of Development of IBM Information Management. These are the two people at IBM ultimately responsible for the success of the Informix business. So pay special attention to what they have to say. I’d like to say a special thank you to many people for their help in making this event possible, all of whom are here: the entire IIUG Board, and the AMAZING Conference Planning team of Matt Elders, John Fahey, Andrew Ford, Sam Gentsch, and Kernoal Stephens. Also from IBM: Jerry Keesee, Bernie Spang, Pradeep Kutty, Sally Hartnell, Louis T. (don’t forget the “T.”) Cherian, Al Martin, Beth Flood, Priya Govindarajan , Steve Troisi and Tom Rieger. Thanks go to all the speakers who have made this event possible, and to the great people of the Marriott Mission Valley. Have you ever found the TRUE GEM of a person who always is the first to volunteer, the first to help and the first to do anything? Well we have two of them. First is Anita McKeithen from IBM, whom NONE of us would be here if not for her and second is Rhonda Hackenburg who is truly the IIUG conference’s secret weapon. Thank You to both of you for ALWAYS volunteering and the amazing work you did (and it really is Rhonda’s 29th Birthday this week .) I would also like to thank all our Sponsors for attending this event and it is the sponsors that help us keep the cost of this conference among the lowest in the industry but special thanks goes to Bruce Simms who coordinates and recruits all these sponsors. Thank you to Bruce for helping us keep that cost low. Also deserving special THANK YOU is David Link who was responsible for the entire schedule of events and ultimately responsible for all the presentations. We always joke about David having a Birthday every day and this year he is deserving of all the free deserts! Each year I leave my last paragraph to the special person to the conference, all of us and especially myself. Cindy Lichtenauer and I came to visit San Diego about eight months ago with only the slimmest of possibilities of actually holding the event here but after being here for only 48 hours, we convinced each other this is the place. Cindy “Thank You” for just being you! I will finish by saying welcome to sunny southern California and welcome to the conference. Look around you—you’re surrounded by the best and brightest Informix people in the world, On behalf of the IIUG Board of Directors, the outstanding Conference Team, and all the speakers, sponsors and attendees, please take this opportunity to learn, network, make new friends, and enjoy this wonderful event. “Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.” Stuart Litel President

Welcome Letter - Jerry Keesee, World Wide Director, IBM Informix Software

I would like to welcome each of you to the fifth annual International Informix User Group Conference. It is electrifying to be here in sunny California at the Marriott San Diego, Mission Valley. This is an exciting time for IIUG and IBM as we continue to grow and adapt, remaining always motivated and responsive to you, our clients and partners. The world of IIUG is a stimulating area and we will continue to meet and bring inspiring people together in forums like this to ensure Informix remains at the cutting edge of technology. The 2012 IIUG conference represents a rich and strong partnership between IBM and IIUG. With that in mind, the conference committee has put together what we believe will be both an enjoyable and learning experience for everyone. We have a great line up of keynote speakers including Arvind Krishna, General Manager, Information Management and Martin Wildberger, VP, WW Information Management Development, with a very special guest David Barnes who is the Program Director, Emerging Technology. I would like to give you an idea of what you can expect and what we hope to achieve over the next few days. We have two new tracks for sessions this year, one that features Informix and other products in the IM portfolio, and one that highlights Informix Genero. The Informix track will entice you with the latest technologies to help you grow and sustain your business. The Informix Genero track will focus on the latest features of the Genero product line. We strive to have our technical sessions exceed your expectations. You will hear tips and tricks about performance enhancements, Informix in the Cloud, and new applications on Informix. You will hear how DBA's can monitor their Informix servers from an iPhone. Some favorites will round out the track with solutions such as Informix TimeSeries, Informix Warehouse and our world class Flexible Grid technology. Plan to arrive early to get a good seat at these popular sessions. I personally ask each of you to take advantage of the usability sandbox to give us your feedback. In addition, we always want your success stories. Check the schedule of the Client Reference Lounge at the Information Table and sign up to tell us your stories! You may also sign up for one-on-one meetings with IBM executives and Informix architects. And don’t forget to consider being part of the upcoming early validation programs. In closing, I would like to thank each of you for attending the 2012 IIUG Conference and bringing your expertise. You have the vision, the knowledge, the resources and the experience to help us pave our way into the future. This conference promises to meet and exceed your expectations and I look forward to meeting with you. Best Wishes for a successful conference.

Surveys will be available Wednesday during the keynote session and at the Conference Registration Desk. All who submit a survey by 12:30 PM Wednesday will receive an IIUG gift and be eligible for a raffle of Amazon Kindles courtesy of IBM.
