NEW PLAYING MEMBER’S INFORMATION––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––1 Proposers and Seconders: Have a responsibility to see

that the Nominee is introduced to other Members, is advised of all the rules of the club governing their conduct and is sufficiently advanced in the knowledge of the Rules of Golf to be competent to perform the duties of a marker for a fellow competitor.

2 Handicaps: If the Nominee does not hold a current Golf Australia (GA) handicap then it is important that the Nominee is given every reasonable opportunity to acquire one. Nominee Members (whether they hold a current Australian Handicap or not) may play in certain competitions in order to obtain an Australian Handicap however, they are not permitted to win any prizes and their play can be controlled as set out in BPGC By-laws.

3 Nominees not holding a current GA handicap will be required to return three (3) completed score cards.These cards must be marked & signed by another person holding a current GA handicap and can be played during a competition or social round. Upon submitting the required cards they will then be allocated an GA handicap. It is requested that all cards are marked 1st handicap card, 2nd handicap, 3rd handicap card & dated. This will help to streamline the process. It is also strongly advised that Nominees make a concerted effort to complete their handicap cards ASAP. New members joining from other clubs and holding a current GA handicap need only have their handicap transferred from that club.

NEW PLAYING MEMBER’S INFORMATION––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––4 Provisional Members: The Nominee’s details are

presented at the next scheduled meeting of the Board after receipt of their application for Board approval. Once theNominee’s details have been approved at Board level and have also been displayed on the Club’s Notice Board for 14 days they are upgraded to a ‘Provisional Membership’.Provisional Members (may play in certain competitions in order to obtain an GA handicap, however they are not permitted to win donated trophies, board events, major events or Monthly Medals whether they hold a current Australian Handicap or not and their play can be controlled as set out in BPGC By-laws. Provisional Membership status will remain until three (3) calendar months from the date their handicap is ratified at which time the member will adopt the Full membership entitlements of the category applied for.

5 Booking into Competitions: Prior to being issued with an Australian Handicap new members must book into competitions with the aid of Pro Staff or Match & Course Committee members. Once the new member has been issued a GA handicap the GOLFLINK function of their membership card is activated. This enables members to access the Club’s booking in computers.

6 New Members Meet & Greet: It is a mandatory requirement of membership that all new members attend an official Meet & Greet. The purpose of this Meet & Greet is to provide the new member with valuable & important information about the club, clubhouse, course & golfing procedures.

The Club offers Members & Visitors an affordable variety ofquality meals and snacks at reasonable prices.Check the website for trading hours.The Club caters for private functions as well as corporate &charity golf events with conference & function facilities for upto 200 people.

2. COUNTBACK:In the event of a countback being necessary, it shall bedecided in the following manner:18 HOLE EVENTS:The best nett score over the last 9 holes. Should there be atie -The best nett score over the last 6 holes. Should there be afurther tie -The best nett score over the last 3 holes. If there is still a tie,the count-back should then be made hole by hole from the18th hole.Over 36, 54 and 72 hole events: the last 18 holes shall beused and, if still tied, the countback as in 18 hole events shallbe applied.In a handicap stroke event, one half handicap will be appliedto the 9 holes, one third handicap to the 6 holes, one sixthhandicap to the 3 holes and 1/18th to the single hole.

3. COURSE ETIQUETTE:a. All players must carry and use a sand bucket. A player

should see that any turf cut or displaced is at oncereplaced and pressed down and/or the divot filled withsand.

b. Players must repair ball lob marks on greens.c. Players should at all times play without delay. A group’s

position in the field is immediately behind the group infront.It is the responsibility of all players in the group to ensurethis happens.

d. Players should play as soon as the players in front are outof range.

e. No one should move or talk or stand close to or directlybehind the ball or the hole when a player is making astroke.

f. Players, while looking for a lost ball, should allow othermatches coming up to play through. They should signalto the players following them to play through and havinggiven such a signal they should not continue their playuntil these players have passed and are out of range. (Aball is deemed “lost” if it is not found within 3 minutes –See Definitions in the Rules of Golf for full information)

g. Players should rake the bunker after playing from there.h. Players should be careful not to damage the holes when

putting out or replacing the flag stick.i. A player who has incurred a penalty should intimate the

fact to his opponent as soon as possible.j. Players are requested to pick up their ball and

immediately leave the green when the result of a hole hasbeen determined, when a hole is lost to par in par eventsor when you can no longer score a point in stablefordevents.

k. In fairness to other players, all players should makethemselves conversant with the Rules of Golf and LocalRules and the penalties incurred for any breach of thesame.

l. Course staff have right away on the course at all times.4. HANDICAP COMMITTEE:

The handicap committee’s primary aim is to managehandicaps so that all competitors have a sporting chance ofsuccess.

5. HANDICAPS:Members Handicaps-MEN A Grade: - 12.7 and under B Grade: - 12.8 to 19.3 CGrade: - 19.4 to 36.4WOMEN Division I: 0 to 21.0 Division II: 21.1 to 29.1 DivisionIII: 29.2 to 45.4Visitors Handicap- Invitations & Open EventsLimit is 36 for Men and 45 for Women.

6. MARKING OF CARDS:It is the player’s responsibility to ensure that the date,handicap, score and membership number have beencorrectly recorded on their card and that it has been correctlysigned and countersigned.

7. MENS DRESS REGULATIONSMinimum Dress Regulations during Competition TimesTailored Shorts (with zipper, no drawstring)Approved Golf or Polo ShirtsSport Socks Shoes (fully enclosed)Any member or visitor when paying their entry fee, if theirmode of dress does not comply with the approved DressStandards set by the Board of Directors will be refused entryin that competition.Any member or visitor who breaches the approved DressStandards set by the Board of Directors during any round ofcompetition golf will be liable for disqualification.

Members intending to play during non-competition timesmust check with the Pro shop as there may be a Social Clubbooked in (members cannot infringe on times booked bySocial Clubs). All players must report to the Starterbefore hitting off.

9. NOTICE BOARDS: (Located at 1st and 10th Tees)It is the player’s responsibility to check the notice boardbefore starting play, for they are deemed to be aware of allnotices, local rules etc. posted there.

10. PRESENTATIONS:It is requested that winners be in attendance for thepresentation of any event but particularly Championship &Major Club events and donated trophies. Apologies shouldbe made to the Match official by the winners if they can’tattend presentation.

11. PLAYER ELIGIBLITY:A player competing in Match Play Competitions is not eligibleto compete in any other competitions run in conjunction. Rule33 (1)

12. PRIORITY ON THE COURSE:A single player has no standing and should give way to amatch of any other kind. Any match playing a whole roundis entitled to pass a match playing a shorter round. If a matchfails to keep its place on the course and loses more than oneclear hole on the players in front, it shall allow the matchfollowing to play through.

13. STARTING TIMES:a. All players must report to the starter at least 15

minutes before hitting off.b. No unauthorised alteration shall be made to the Computer

Time Sheet, except by the Pro Shop or Match Committee.Members will observe the booked times. If a membercannot keep to the booking, the Starter must be advisedas soon as possible. Attention is drawn to the penaltyprovided by Rule 6-3.

c. On the day of a competition the names and times on thestarting sheet become the time and order of starting.

d. Players unable to attend or be punctual must notify thestarter in advance. Players late on the tee are in breachof 5-3A.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––14. SCORE CARD ENTRY:

a. Player’s are required to enter their scores into thecomputer within 15 minutes upon completion of theirround.

b. All player’s competing in events away from Beverley Parkare required to inform the Handicapper of scoresrecorded in those events at the earliest opportunity ifscores have not been recorded on Golflink.

c. Player’s should not expect other Clubs to send scoresback to Beverley Park - it is the player’sresponsibility to return their score card.

d. When a Stroke event is conducted, the Match & CourseCommittee requests Members to record their scratchscore on the card. This will expedite the winding up of thecompetition.

15. TROPHY DONORS:A Donated Trophy event will be provided, free of charge, amaximum of one (1) timeslot / four (4) spots in the field, forthe use of Trophy Donors. Donors cannot win their owntrophy.

CONDITIONS OF PLAY & BOOKINGIN PROTOCOL

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Under the constitution all members have the basic right to book in and play on any day.CONDITIONS OF PLAY1. Before hitting off in any competition, each player must have

his name entered in the computer or on a competition sheetand pay the prescribed fee to the starter.

2. A minimum of two (2) players are required for entry into a ballcompetition.

3. Men & Women playing in a “Mixed” event without a “Mixed”partner will be playing in a men’s or women’s single event,they will be ineligible for the in-conjunction event*.Provided there is a relevant competition, players will behandicapped.

BOOKING IN PROTOCOL1. It is requested that the participants:� Book in two tee times (next to each other) if the main event is

one that consists of a two player team.� Book in ONLY FOUR PLAYERS (on one line next to each

other) if the main event is one that consists of a four playerteam.

2. It is requested that participants wherever possible contact theplayers that they intend booking in with to advise them of theirtee time.

3. Provisional members, who are not eligible to win certainevents, should make their potential partners aware of thisfact, when booking in.

4. Members may ask permission of the Captain, Vice Captain ortwo (2) Match & Course Committee members to invite amember of another Golf Club to be their guest at golf.

MEMBER’S GUIDE TO VARIOUSGOLF COMPETITIONS

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––These notes are intended to assist in the general concept of how various competitions are played at Beverley Park Golf Club; they must be read in conjunction with the Rules of Golf.

STROKEThe score at each hole is entered on the score card. The 18 hole score is totalled and then the handicap is deducted. The Player who completes the stipulated round in the fewest strokes will be the handicap winner. There will sometimes be scratch winners (total score without handicap).

PARIn Par play the score is entered on the card in the same way as in stroke play with the exception that where the score exceeds par for the hole, after allowing for handicap stroke (if the player is in receipt of one) the score need not be written in. A dash is sufficient to indicate a “wipe”. It is the custom that when a player is beaten by Par, the ball shall be picked up. This helps speed up play.After entering the stroke score for each hole on the card, the result is marked in the column provided, with a (+) sign for a score better than par, an (0) for a square with par and a (-) for less than par. At the end of the round the plus and minus signs are added and the net result written in as so many (+), (-) or a (0) for square with the card. Players handicap strokes are taken at holes as indicated on the Card.

STABLEFORDThe method of playing a Stableford competition is for the player to take strokes at holes as in a Par competition using their handicap and to score points on the net results at each hole. At the end of the round all points scored are added up and the player having the highest number of points is the winner.In scoring, without allowing for handicaps, a player who scores par receives 2 points, for a bogey or 1 over par, 1 point, for a birdie or 1 under par, 3 points, for an eagle or 2 under par, 4 points, and so on. For example, a player receiving a stroke on a par 4 hole scores 4 giving a net 3; for this the player receives 3 points. A player at a par 3 hole scores a 4 but does not receive a stroke; for this the player would receive 1 point.


––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––TWO BALL BEST BALL v. PARTwo players play as partners each taking strokes at holes as in a par competition. If one of the players scores a plus (+) on a hole and the other squares it (0), only the (+) is counted. If one squares a hole with par and the other scores a minus (-) only the square is counted and so on. Plus, half and minus signs are added at the end of the round and recorded as in an ordinary par competition. In a four-ball handicap event care must be taken to mark the scores of each player in separate columns headed by the initials of the player. If the scores are mixed and it is impossible for the Committee to check the card, the players will be disqualified.TWO BALL BEST BALL STABLEFORDPlayed in exactly the same manner as above except that the better score of the partnership will be credited with stableford points instead of a plus, half or minus.MIXED TWO BALL BEST BALL v. PAR or STABLEFORDThese games are played as described previously except that the Women play from the Women’s tees and the Men play from the Men’s tees.FOURSOMESTwo players play as partners and use one ball. The partners hit off alternately from the tee and thereafter hit the ball alternately during the play at each hole. Scoring is done as for a stroke round and the total is subject to a deduction of half the partners’ aggregate handicaps.If either player incurs a penalty stroke it does not alter the rotation of play. In a foursomes stroke play competition which consists of more than one stipulated round the order of play must be changed between rounds unless the Match & Course Management has laid down as a condition of play that the original order of play must be preserved throughout the competition.Foursomes may be played under either stroke play rules or match play conditions and Rule 29 and relevant definitions apply.MIXED FOURSOMESMixed foursomes are played in the same manner as foursomes except that the Women play from their tees and the Men play from their tees.In competitions consisting of more than one stipulated round, Women are required to play from the first tee in the first round, the Men play from the first tee in the second round.OTHER COMPETITIONSIn addition to the previously listed competitions above many clubs conduct competitions that are not specifically covered in the Rules of Golf. Some of the more popular types of competitions are listed below.


––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––MATCH PLAYA match consists of one side playing against another over a stipulated round or as decreed by the Match CommitteeThe match is played by holes. A hole is won when one side has a lower net score than the other. A hole is halved when both sides have the same net score. The match is won when one side leads by more holes than there are holes left to play.

SINGLES: The number of strokes given is the full handicap difference. Where the full handicap exceeds 18, players will receive 2 or 3 strokes per hole where applicable. When additional holes are required to determine the winner, strokes are awarded on the same holes as the original round.

FOUR-BALL: The number of strokes given is the full handicap difference. The lowest marker concedes strokes to the other players including their partner.

EXAMPLE: Player A on a handicap of 10 receives nil, their partner B on a handicap of 24 receives 14 strokes, C on a handicap of 35 receives 25 strokes and D on a handicap of 40 receives 30 strokes. (Players will receive 2 or 3 strokes per hole where applicable.)

NOTE: In both singles and four-ball matches the order of where strokes are given is according to the Match Play Indexprinted on the score card.MIXED SPLIT SIXES FOUR BALL BEST BALL TEAM v. PAR or STABLEFORDThese games are played as described previously except that the two Women play from their tees and the two Men play from their tees. Whoever of the four records the best score on any of the first six holes (1 to 6), records their score on their card. Whoever of the four records the best two scores on any of the next six holes (7 to 12), records their score on their card. Whoever of the four records the best three scores on any of the last six holes (13 to 18), records their score on their card.MIXED THREE STEP FOUR BALL BEST BALL TEAM v. PAR or STABLEFORDThese games are played as described previously except that the two Women play from their tees and the two Men play from their tees. Whoever of the four records the best score on the first hole, records their score on the card. Whoever of the four records the best two scores on the second hole, records their scores on the card. Whoever of the four records the best three scores on the third hole, records their scores on the card. This sequence is repeated on the next three holes, one score for the 4th hole, two scores for the 5th hole, and three scores for the 6th hole and so on.

The players then decide together which ball is in the best position and the other ball is taken out of play.If Player A hit the selected ball from the tee, then Player B will hit the next shot or vice versa. Play continues on an alternate basis until the hole is completed. Incurring a penalty shot does not affect the order of play. The handicap of each team is calculated by taking 3/8 of the aggregate of team members’ individual handicaps. The handicap of each player must be shown on the card. Since Canadian Foursomes is a Stroke event, it is simply scored that way on the card showing a gross and net score. The team with the lowest score is the winner. Canadian Foursomes can be played as a mixed, men’s or women’s event and provides a fun variation of Foursomes play.PINEHURST OR AMERICAN FOURSOMESBoth players play tee shots at each hole then play a second stroke with their partner’s ball. One ball is then selected and play proceeds as in foursomes with the owner of the ball selected playing the third stroke. Handicap allowance is 3/8 of aggregate stroke handicap.MEDLEY COMPETITIONPlayed as two ball, either par or stableford, with any combination of Men and Women. Single medley competitions will only occur when there is insufficient starters for separate Mens and Womens single events.AMBROSEThis event can be played as a two, three, four or 5 ball event, although the four person event is the most popular. The team selects a captain (preferably the lowest marker) who is responsible for the method of play and marking of the card. The captain also determines the order of play which is then maintained throughout the event.In two, three or four person events all players hit off from the tee and the captain then decides which ball is in the best position. The other team members then drop or place their ball within a club length of the selected ball depending upon conditions of the day, no nearer the hole.
