Families, Sailors and Marines,

We have felt a taste of spring. Before we know it spring break, the end of the school year, summer and PCS

season will be upon us. Many of you will be going out of the area for vacation, moving on to a new location

or arriving in the Hampton Roads region to begin a new adventure. Whatever the case, it's an exciting time of

year!

I'm so pleased to have met more and more of you and your families at the many events put on by the

Battalion, Marine Corps Family Team Building, Marine Corps Community Services, and the Single Marine

Program during the first months of 2019. Our team has been working hard to develop and provide events that

are convenient, fun and supportive and I hope you will continue to take advantage of them. So much is

already planned between now and the summer.

In April we will celebrate and thank our many volunteers at the volunteer appreciation lunch. First Command

will Host another Lunch and Learn financial management seminar; the Virginia International Tattoo music and

military exhibition will take place in Norfolk; and this month's Marine and Family Dinner will make its way to

California Pizza Kitchen at the MacArthur Mall in Norfolk. In May we will have a Taco Night for the barracks

Marines and Sailors, a number of SMP events; and the Marine and Family Dinner will return to YNot Pizza in

Chesapeake... In June we will have our annual OohRah Day and field meet and the battalion change of

command, among other events.

As the weather warms and you plan family or office get-togethers, or if you’re ready to try kayaking, paddle

boarding or camping, remember that our Outdoor Recreation Office aboard Camp Elmore has everything you

would need at rock-bottom price.

If you have been thinking about joining the growing ranks of our strong group of gracious volunteers, now is

the time! Whatever your skill or interest and time available, your participation will help to continue to

strengthen our family readiness and enrich our events. CWO Sword, Mrs. Erin Owens and I are standing by

to answer any questions you have and to welcome you with open arms.

The personal readiness of our Marines and Sailors is my priority and family readiness leads to personal

readiness. I look forward to seeing you and yours a one of our upcoming events.

Gung Ho!

Marines, Sailors, and Headquarters and Service Battalion Families,

I hope everyone takes the time and reflect how great of nation we live in. It is always a great time to

fellowship with my fellow Marines, Sailors, and their families. Military life provides tremendous rewards

for troops and families, especially for those who actively seek to take advantage of them. Participating

in unit events can enhance the military experience and smooth transition to a new unit. At our

Battalion events, you get to meet new families and the current chain of command. I encourage all to

support our upcoming events and give a chance for Colonel Campbell and I to extend our appreciation

for you and your family’s sacrifice.

Whether you have volunteered with the Family Readiness Program, Marine Corps Family Team

Building, Single Marine Program, or out in the community the time and effort of volunteers is much

appreciated. Please continue to encourage others to volunteer and help our fellow Marines, Sailors, and

their families.

Remember, 12 May is Mother’s day. It goes without saying the importance of family and the sacrifice of

our loved ones. I wish all the Mother’s a Happy Mother’s day.

Memorial Day weekend is steadily approaching please stay safe, make the right decisions, and look

after your fellow Marines, Sailors, and Service Members. Our Military spouses are so important to our

mission readiness and without them we would not be able to do our jobs to the best of our ability. My

wife Angela and I are grateful to be apart of this command and would like to thank you for all your hard

work and dedication of service.

Finally, I would also like to take this moment to congratulate again all the selected and promoted

Marines and Sailors. Their promotions are a testament to the high caliber of personnel we have working

at our battalion.

Have a wonderful Spring. Semper Fi,

Adam Moore

Greetings from your Command Team Adviser.

Hello to everybody! First, I just want to tell you what an honor and privilege it

has been to be able to serve as your CTA for the past couple years. To look

back and see where we started with no real Unit Family Readiness program,

and to see where we are now, just brings an overwhelming joy to my heart.

It has been with great humbleness, that I have been able to work alongside of

so many terrific spouses to bring the program to the point where it is today.

With all this being said, it does bring me sadness to let you know that in May

I will be stepping down as Command Team Adviser as my husband is retiring

from the Marine Corps after 25 years, and we will be moving to the beautiful

state of South Carolina.

Again I have been overwhelmed and overjoyed with how much you spouses,

and Marines have meant to me, and the journey that we have been on

together has just made my heart overflow with joy! I'm excited to see where

you all go from here and that the excitement will continue through the years!

Semper Fi to my WONDERFUL Marine Corps family and life long friends!

Love to you all.

Signing off,

Erin Owens

Greetings from Marine Corps Family Team Building (MCFTB)!

There is no such thing as “down time” when it comes to readiness, whether is

personal readiness, family readiness, or professional readiness. When life,

mission, and career are maintaining an even keel it is easy to put readiness

to the side. However, as we found out recently with the near-miss of

Hurricane Florence, it is important that all Marines, Sailors, and families

maintain a “ready” state.

MCFTB has myriad programs that can help! One program that covers many

important topics is L.I.N.K.S. (Lifestyle, Insights, Networking, Knowledge and

Skills). MCFTB offers L.I.N.K.S. for Marines, Spouses, Kids, Teens, and

Couples. Some of the topics we delve into:

Pay Day (What do all those numbers on an LES mean?)

The Maze (Knowing your benefits and entitlements truly is a maze!)

Crossroads (We got orders, now what?)

The Corps (My Marine said he needs “boots and utes” for tomorrow at

zero-six. What the heck does that mean?)

Much, much more!

L.I.N.K.S. is just one of the classes MCFTB has to offer. Check out our

schedule for more! Questions or comments? Call us at 757-445-6875.

MCCS Hampton Roads Exceptional Family Members Program

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) was originally established in 1990 and broke

ground with a ribbon cutting ceremony here in Hampton Roads in February 2010 at Naval

Medical Center Portsmouth. Its mission is to safeguard continuity of care for EFM’s while

enhancing the quality of life for enrolled Marine Corps families in order to support the mission

of the Marine Corps.

The EFMP is for Marines who have family members with long-term physical, emotional,

developmental or intellectual needs requiring on going special treatment, therapy, education,

and/or equipment.

The EFMP first identifies the needs of our families and then in collaboration with an assigned

installation Family Caseworker, coordinates and communicates services within the community

to help provide resources and referrals to our EFM’s. The EFMP offers monthly respite care to

qualified families, access to a lending library, PCS move assistance, deployment support and

quarterly events to meet and socialize with other families.

Headquarters Marine Corps EFMP will ensure sponsors who are enrolled in the program are

assigned to duty stations where services exist to support the EFM. Enrollment paperwork is

due to be updated every 3 years and is currently governed by MCO 1754.4.

The family caseworker for this region is Mrs. Erin Reighard, 757-953-2270 and can be reached

via email at [email protected].

MARFORCOM Office of Communication Strategy and Operations (PAO/COMCAM) personnel can now take official photos for personnel assigned to MARFORCOM and commands in the Hampton Roads Tidewater Region for inclusion in official records and command boards.

WHAT TO DO: In order to allow for appropriate studio set up, official photos will be taken by appointment only on Thursdays from 0900-1330 and can be scheduled with Mr. Chris Jones at 757-836-1802 or [email protected].

WHERE TO GO: MARFORCOM photo studio is located in the supply warehouse on Camp Allen. It is the small trailer off to the left just past the loading dock entrance of the building.

WHAT TO BRING: Marines must bring with them their height and weight letter that has been certified within 30 days of the official photo being taken or email it at least one day prior to Mr. Chris Jones at [email protected]. Marines are encouraged to review MARADMIN 548/16 prior to their appointment and bring another Marine to the appointment to assist with uniform preparation.

Personnel from other services receiving an official photo must bring all service-specific photo requirements or guidance policy to their appointment and will be provided a disk with their photo. MARFORCOM photography personnel cannot submit photo files to any other service's official records administrator.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Photos will be processed and submitted to MMRP-60 within 48 hours (2 business days) after the day of the appointment. Altering official photos is NOT AUTHORIZED per the MARADMIN and, as such, MARFORCOM photo studio personnel will not 'touch up" or edit official photos for any reason.

Per MARADMIN 548/16, OFFICIAL MILITARY PERSONNEL FILE (OMPF) PHOTOGRAPH GUIDANCE, Marines have a personal responsibility to ensure their photograph is submitted and processed by CMC (MMRP) prior to their respective board convening. Verification of photograph processing into the OMPF can be accomplished by the Marine via the OMPF tab in MOL or by calling MMRP-60 at (703) 784-3738.
