About these instructions | How to Use

About

These instructions are to be used by technically skilled persons. These installation instructions are applicable to Squarell products only. It instructs the installer how to connect Squarell equipment to the vehicle data network and power supply.Squarell makes no representations or warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to the accuracy, completeness or reliability of this document.

Important

Read these instructions carefully and in full, before you proceed installing. Installation of Squarell equipment may only performed by Squarell trained specialists, or under supervision of Squarell.Professional installation equipment and tools are to be used. Ignition key should be switched off before installing Squarell equipment. Country specific rules for installation are to be taken in consideration. Vehicle manufacturer specific rules for installation are to be taken in consideration.All Squarell equipment are complying to E-standards.

Before starting any work: Check if the digital tachograph has NO driver cards inserted. (Let the driver remove the cards)

If you have to un-power the tachograph, please inform the vehicle owner, as the tachograph must be checked by a tacho service station afterwards.

Power connections, ground and fusing

Squarell products are meant to be used in automotive and harsh environments with normal supply voltages of 12 and 24 volts.The power supply can range between 8 and 48 volts, the units are resistant to supply disturbances as described in the E-certification documents.If Squarell products are used in a one-system design, please use 1 fuse for supply power protection and 1 common ground connection for the total system.

Electrical Connections to existing wiring

If electric connections are made to existing wiring looms, please use proper crimping tools. If welding joints are made, observe that welding joints are properly isolated.

CANcliQ and DatacliQ connections

CANcliQ and DatacliQ connections are non-electrical joints to the vehicle network, please observe that the CANcliQ is clamped around undamaged cable wire isolation.

Mounting Squarell devices to the vehicle structure

Use tie wraps or fixing tape to fix the Squarell unit to the structure of the vehicle. Take care that vibration and noise is avoided when operational.

Mounting cables

Please use cable ties to mount Squarell cables to existing wiring looms. Cables must not be mounted under tension. Avoid cable nick when bundling cables together.

Post-installation

General -To test the installation- The Squarell LED is green when ignition is on.If the LED is red, check if the connected equipment (like telematics) is on.Follow the testing routines of the connected equipment.After correct installation, take pictures of the electrical connections to the vehicle and the connected equipment. This pictures can be used as reference of performed work and proper installation.

Untwist Pin A & Pin B wires.

Place the wire of Pin A in the CAN High slot.Place the wire of Pin B in the CAN Low slot.

Close datacliQ (ID280).

Find the twisted Yellow and Green CANbus wires and twisted 2x White-Orange J1708 wires behind the HD-9 OBD connector.

At passenger sideClick open fuse box cap and remove the 4 Torque screws so you can slide the fuse box to the side.

Find the Blue-Red and Blue-White twisted wires at the black connector at the left side (orange arrow)

CANbus

Untwist Blue-Red and Blue-White wires in the Black connector at the left side.Place MAN Blue-Red wire in CAN HighPlace MAN Blue-White wire in CAN LowClose CANcliQ.

Power + Ground

Connections at backside of fuse box.

Ground (KL31) :Free terminals with Brown wire. (Brown arrow)Continuous Power (KL30) :Free terminals with white wires (White arrow). Power on Ignition (KL15) :Free terminals with White wires (White arrow).

CAN HIGH

Location

At the passenger side open de Fuseboxpanel and remove the fuse box.

CANbus

Untwist the Blue and Yellow wires from the CAN distribution block Located at the strip with connectors with only Yellow and blue wires (see Orange arrow)

Place Blue wire in CAN High slot.Place Yellow wire in CAN Low slot.

Close CANcliQ.

FPS CANbus Fuel level

Find the connector where next to the 2 pairs of yellow and blue twisted wires you will also find a Brown wire with a red tracer and a brown wire with blue tracer. This is the FPS connector. Take the Blue and Yellow wires from this connector.

Place Blue wire in CAN High slot.Place Yellow wire in CAN Low slot.Close DatacliQ

Attention!On the picture the FPS is a purple connector however it could also be a Blue or Grey connector.

Power + Ground

Ground (KL31) :Brown Wire (Brown arrow)

Continuous Power (KL30) :(Red arrow).

Power on Ignition (KL15) :Black wire (Black arrow).

CAN HIGH

Location

Find the fusebox, located behind the driver seat.

The CAN-bus wires are located behind the fusebox.Find the module with three grey connectors and one purple connector. The CAN-bus wires are located at the purple connector.

Untwist the Yellow and Blue wires.Place the Blue wire in the CAN High slot.Place the Yellow wire in the CAN Low slot.Close the CANcliQ.

Power + Ground

If equipt with OBD connect power and ground on the pins. If not search for a power and ground wire.Ground (KL31) :OBD Pin 4,5Squarell black wire to ground wire.

Continuous Power (KL30) :OBD pin 16Squarell Brown wire to +24V wire.

Find the Loom with the twisted Yellow and Blue wires behind the instrument cluster

Untwist the Yellow and Blue wires.Place the Blue wire in the CAN High slot.Place the Yellow wire in the CAN Low slot.Close the CANcliQ.

Power + GroundWire Loom behind the instrument cluster

Ground (KL31) :Brown Wire (Brown arrow).

Location

Under the steering wheel close to the OBD connector there are 2 connectors, 1 with Yellow wires and 1 with Blue wires. (See Orange arrow)

Next to the OBD connector there are 2 small connectors. When you slightly remove the cover you will see Blue and Yellow wires.

CANbus

Remove the black wire cover of the wire bundle to make space for a CANcliQ.Place one yellow wire to the CAN high slot and a Blue wire to the CAN low slot.Then properly close the CANcliQ.

Power + Ground

Connections at passenger side fuse box.

Ground (KL31) :Ground at Chassis bolt (see Black arrow).

Continuous Power (KL30) :Continues Power supply at Bolt in fusebox(see red arrow KL 30)

Power on Ignition (KL15) :Power at ignition made at the Fuse (Red arrow KL 15).

Middle Console under the rubber cover, you will find the fuse box. Open the Fuse box cover with the 2 clips.

Find the black and white connector with the orange brace at the top right side of the fuse box.(orange arrow)

At the passenger side open up the cover with 2 plastic clips.

In the fuse box at the right side, you will find the Renault CAN controller.

CANbus

Untwist the Yellow and Green wire from the 4 pin connector between the green and blue connector.

Place the Yellow wire in the CAN High slot.Place the Green wire in the CAN low slot.Close the CANcliQ properly.

Power + Ground

Ground (KL31) :White wire (White arrow).

Continuous Power (KL30) :Red wire(Red arrow).

Location

At the passenger side open up the cover with 2 plastic clips.

In the fuse box at the right side, you will find the Renault CAN controller.

CANbus

Untwist the Yellow and Green wire from the 4 pin connector between the green and blue connector.

Place the Yellow wire in the CAN High slot.Place the Green wire in the CAN low slot.Close the CANcliQ properly.

Power + Ground

Ground (KL31) :White wire (White arrow).

Continuous Power (KL30) :Red wire(Red arrow).

Power on Ignition (KL15) :Black wire (Black arrow).

At passenger side open up the dashboard and remove the two screws of the fuse panel. Cut the required tie wraps so you are able to lift out the fuse panel.

After the installation replace the removed tie wraps.

(Deep) in the right corner you will find the Blue CAN distribution block with the Yellow and white wires and a blue CAN distribution with White and Green twisted wires.

Find the CAN-bus wires at the passenger side. Located behind the fusebox. Which is behind the dashboard cover.

Remove the dashboard cover and fusebox to find the wiring loom at the left side, that contains a yellow and white twisted pair of wires, with a grey ground wire.

Untwist the Yellow and White wires.

Place the Yellow wire in the CAN High Slot.Place the White wire in the CAN Low slot.Close CANcliQ.

Location

Find the CAN-bus wires at the passenger side. Located behind the fusebox. Which is behind the dashboard cover.

Remove the dashboard cover and fusebox to find the wiring loom at the left side, that contains a yellow and white twisted pair of wires, with a grey ground wire.

CANbus

Untwist the Yellow and White wires.

Place the Yellow wire in the CAN High Slot.Place the White wire in the CAN Low slot.Close CANcliQ.

Power + GroundConnections in OBD connector

Ground (KL31) :OBD connector pin 4 and pin 5

Continuous Power (KL30) :Pin 16 OBD connector

In the fuse box at the right side, you will find the Volvo CAN controller.

Location

At the passenger side open up the cover with 2 plastic clips.

In the fuse box at the right side, you will find the Volvo CAN controller.

CANbus

Untwist the Yellow and Green wire from the 4 pin connector between the green and blue connector.

Place the Yellow wire in the CAN High slot.Place the Green wire in the CAN low slot.Close the CANcliQ properly.

Power + Ground

Ground (KL31) :White wire (White arrow).

Continuous Power (KL30) :Red wire(Red arrow).

Power on Ignition (KL15) :Black wire (Black arrow).

Open up the dashboard by removing the top cover and the side cover at the passenger side to get access to the VMCU(Vehicle Master Control Unit).

Find the twisted Green and Yellow wires in the blue connector code name:A187 CN3 (pin 8 & 7) at the underside of the VMCU.

Untwist Green and Yellow wires:Yellow wire = #7004Green wire = #7005 Place Yellow wire in CAN High slotPlace Green wire in CAN Low slotClose CANcliQ.

Find the twisted Green and Orange wires in the horizontally placed connector (XC140) in the left top corner of the fuse box.

At Passenger side, remove the pockets from the dashboard.

Take the OBD connector out of the socket.There will be 2 pairs of Orange Black and Orange Brown wires.

Untwist Orange/Black and Orange/Brown wires, pin 3 & 11!

Place Orange/Black wire in CAN HighPlace Orange/Brown wire in CAN LowClose CANcliQ.
