Where does the money come from, and where does it go? Many aren’t aware of the various funding sources or expenditures. Registra ons are at 232,265 currently. Trail pass numbers (all passes) higher this year than last year. SNARS ‐ 3/4 done with effort to get grooming units correctly classed. Ques on ‐ There has been an excessive amount of off‐trail riding ‐ any way we can get the DNR to put a note ‐ this trail pass gives you the right to ride on marked, open trails, off‐trail riding will be considered trespass‐ing. Dave responds that we will meet with the DNR and bring that up. AWSC Execu ve Officer Reports President Dave Newman ‐ Thanks to the office, Lori Pohl and office staff for a great job with trail passes and memberships being processed. Most people seem to have trail passes on their sleds this year. SNARS program is required this year; you need to work with your county coordinator to get your paperwork submi ed. Snowmobile Rec Council met in Eagle River in conjunc on with the VIP ride ‐ all coun es must have their trails GPS’d by April 15. 36 were in at last count. Need to get a handle on how many miles each county actu‐ally has, to determine what new miles can be funded. Some grooming equipment isn’t in the right category, that’s being worked on. When purchasing new equip‐ment, be sure you know the rates for that equipment before you buy it. Cathy Burrow or Gary Hilgendorf can help you with that if you need assistance. Infrastructure subcommi ee met this week, are making some recommenda ons to the council ‐ some re‐garding Class 2 or Class 3 drags, set specs for fully tracked trucks, drags that have wings on them. AWSC execu ve board members will again meet with DNR personnel Trail passes being purchased for snowmobiles that do not belong to the member to give away or sell has been stopped by tying into the DNR database, worked with the DNR and Lori Pohl to take care of that prob‐lem. Be er communica on with club members is important. Free death and dismemberment insurance through American Income Life has been discon nued, we were no fied recently. As of May 11, it will no longer be available. Conserva on Congress Spring Hearings April 9 in each county, also county deer advisory hearings are going on now. 2019 will be AWSC’s 50th anniversary ‐ will be a special issue of Wisconsin Snowmobile News, Facts and His‐tory, also special events at conven on, which will be held here in Green Bay March 22‐24, 2019. Ques on about the difference in registra on numbers and trail pass numbers ‐ some people in parts of the state didn’t ride, so they didn’t buy a trail pass, some on private property, some may have ridden without a trail pass.

Vice President ‐ Lori Heideman ‐ hopes everyone is learning something and taking it back to their clubs. Com‐munica on is important ‐ tell your members where the money goes from the trail passes, etc. Educate your members. Keep your old members updated and new members informed. Tell people how the trail pass works, join clubs ahead of me, there is some process me needed from joining a club to ge ng a trail pass. Tell your members how to get their membership numbers, how to order the trail pass. Get your membership renewals in early, don’t wait un l late fall to send them in. Trail pass is working ‐ surge in membership, no new help? Engage your members. You have to ask them to help, communicate, keep your websites and facebook pages updated. Kids know how to use the technology, let them help you. June 1 is deadline for “Of the Year” nomina ons ‐ New category this year ‐ Club of the Year. Winners in all categories are submi ed to the na onal level. KAOS leadership weekend was great, rode, learned about snowmobiling and leadership. Thanks to Lori and office staff for ge ng the budget informa on together, will go over that with the Directors tomorrow. ACSA ‐ American Council of Snowmobile Associa on Raffle calendars ‐ challenge was issued to sell more than Michigan ‐ Michigan has sold 423 calendars, 507 were sold in Wisconsin. AWSC receives $5 for each raffle calendar sold. Secretary – Sue Smedegard ‐ AWSC s ckers ‐ directors should have them, members are being told to contact their director to get them. Social media ‐ please be cau ous about what you post ‐ no stuck groomers, etc. People see that and believe we’re tearing up the environment. VIP ride ‐ very successful event in Eagle River this year, 150 in a endance, 90 on the ride, will be held in Minocqua next year. Tourism conference ‐ reinforced what we’ve been saying for years ‐ poli cs is local, get to know your elected officials, law enforcement, local leaders, be sure they know who you are. Execu ve Director Sam Landes ‐ Contracts with state for grooming and maintenance on state managed prop‐er es ‐ asked that contracts be out by November 1. Number of miles should be on the contract. $300 per mile should be on the contract ‐ maintenance, signing and grooming, and reasonable brushing. Directors and reps asked to stand for recogni on. Bluemounds State Park ‐ 3rd me ‐ public open house and master plan review coming again due to a lawsuit. Discussed Amery to Dresser trail issue. On the legisla ve side ‐ no bills that involved us this year that went through. Please remind people to pay a en on and respond when something does come up.

Thanks to the AWSC for the clubs and coun es that donate to this ride. This ride educates and enhances snowmobiling. This was our 10th year. Don presented the AWSC with a Na onal Guard statue engraved to thank us for their support over the 10 years. Has been working on upda ng our website, if you have issues or concerns about the website, let the office or execu ve board know, and he will work on that. He will be working with Lori to come up with a concise, helpful, short statement to help members understand the trail pass. It will be available to add to your club website, facebook page, etc. Hopefully will minimize the phone calls and emails to the office. Snowmobile Friendly Communi es ‐ based off ACSA program with several adapta ons. Program mirrors the mission statement of the AWSC. Don went over the basics of the program. Miss Snowflake ‐ Lynsey Burzinski ‐ put on over 1900 miles riding this year. Thanks the groomer operators and clubs for the work on the trails. She gave an overview of the events she has par cipated in over the win‐ter. Thanks all of the Miss Snowflake supporters. She has been contacted by youth across the state, did a Skype interview with a 3rd grader recently. Encourages clubs to have poten al candidates run for Miss Snow‐flake, experience of a life me. PRESIDENT ‐DAVE NEWMAN I am announcing that I will again be a candidate for president of the AWSC. I have proudly served as president for the past four years; preceded with four years as vice president and the Clark County director before that. On top of my du es as president, I am very ac ve in my club and county, as well as serving on the Governor's Snowmobile Recrea on Council. I intend to work with the rest of the execu ve board, directors and AWSC office staff as we take

on the challenges that came with the trail pass and increase in membership we have seen over the past couple of years. I will con nue to represent the AWSC at mee ngs at both state and na onal levels. I hope I have proven myself to be the professional and ethical leader that the AWSC needs. Thank you for your past sup‐port and I hope I can count on your vote again at this year's annual mee ng.

VICE PRESIDENT ‐ Lori Heideman, Incumbent I have decided to run for a fi h term as your vice president. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I have learned in the past four years. The knowledge and the contacts that I have made have been incredible. Working with the current execu ve board, as well as our associa on coordinator, has been amazing. We con nue to tackle issues with the trail pass and work on what is best for the associa on. We strive to make the partnerships we need to be a strong associa on. And I be‐lieve that I can s ll make a difference as your vice president. I sit in on the Publicity commi ee mee ngs and am a member of the KAOS commi ee. I have also taken on the role of Snowmobile Friendly Communi es chair. I con nue to go to the KAOS leadership weekends to mentor our youth. This past year, KAOS members and I a ended the Na onal Off‐Highway Vehicle conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan where we gave a presenta on on ge ng youth involved in clubs and ac vi es. I have also traveled to the Interna onal Snowmobile Congress (ISC) to show support for our youth and the workshops they present. I am a past vice president and secretary of the club I belong to. I have been a snowmobile safety instructor for 13 years. I was a county director from 2002 un l 2014 when I became the vice president of the associa on. I have a ended all the AWSC's VIP Rides and this past spring I a ended my second WATVA VIP ride. I feel that I have been making progress on ge ng to know all the personnel within the DNR that we work with, as well as all our other partners. I am a huge advocate of these partnerships. The more we work together the be er off we will be. I have represented the associa on at the American Council of Snowmobile Associa ons' DC Fly‐In, as well as ISC the past four years. I also was on the planning commi ee for the 2013 ISC held here in Wisconsin. I feel that I am making connec ons on a na onal level as well as ge ng to know all our county directors. The more familiar I become with the issues that face the associa on, the be er I can represent all snowmobilers. I have appreciated all the support that I have received these past four years and ask that you con nue that support by once again vo ng for me as your AWSC vice president.

TREASURER – Andy Malecki, Jr.

I am submi ng my name for re‐elec on to the office of the AWSC treasurer for 2019‐2020. I am the current secretary/treasurer of Bear Point Sno‐Cruisers Snowmobile Club and the Sno‐Cruisers representa ve on the Marine e County Snowmobile Alliance. I was appointed to the Governor's Snowmobile Recrea on Council in 2003 and con nue to serve on the Infrastruc‐ture Commi ee and the Project Audit Commi ee of the Snowmobile Council. I have been a snowmobiler since 1973 and have assisted with numerous club ac vi es and held posi ons with

various clubs for over 27 years. I am a re red Captain of the Green Bay Fire Department and served as a director and treasurer of the Fire Department Credit Union and Sunrise Credit Union for 40 years. I am a director for the Friends of Governor Thompson State Park and serve as treasurer of that organiza on. As treasurer of the AWSC for the past eight years, I have been a member of the AWSC execu ve board. I have worked to monitor the associa on's monthly financial reports and provide financial reports to the execu ve board and directors. I have served as the AWSC's contact person for ACSA calendar raffles for the past five years. I would like to thank all the directors, representa ves, and office staff for the assistance and support during this past year. I look forward to working with everyone as AWSC treasurer and would appreciate your support.

SECRETARY—Sue Smedegard I have served as the AWSC secretary since March of 2011, and produced the minutes for the year prior to that also. I serve as the liaison between the execu ve board and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, as well as the Wisconsin ATV Associa on. I coordinate the "Celebrate Wisconsin Snowmobiling" event, which is in its sixth year. It has been a priority for me to get the minutes and other informa on out to directors, representa ves and members as quickly as pos‐sible, to keep everyone up to date on what's going on within and involving the Associa on of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs. As secretary, treasurer and membership chair of my own club for nearly 25 years, as well as club manager for SNARS, I have a good comprehension about what goes on at the local level. I also serve as treasurer for one of our two county alliances, Burne County Snow Trails, so know what needs to happen at the county level. I have been a snowmobile and atv safety instructor for many years. I hope I can count on your support and vote for secretary of the Associa on of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs for the 2019‐2020 season. I look forward to working with all of you!

Snowmobile Friendly Community Awards

Snowmobile Friendly Community Awards will be presented at the Annual Mee ng

Saturday morning

S F C P : Early in 2017, the AWSC Execu ve Board created an ad hoc Commi ee and directed it to explore the feasibility of cre‐a ng a Statewide Award/Recogni on Program the AWSC could use to recognize and/or reward the volunteer efforts of its 600+ Clubs and the Communi es they reside in. Although small, the new “Snowmobile Friendly Community Com‐mi ee” went to work. Ini ally comprised of three Execu ve Board Members, one Club Member, and one Staff Member, the Commi ee held a few planning mee ngs where they reviewed a wide variety of ways to build a recogni on program to meet the goals laid out by the Execu ve Board. By 2018, the SFC Commi ee had finalized their Program and the AWSC formally announced and introduced the new “Snowmobile Friendly Community Program” to the Directors, Reps, and Clubs. There are three main goals to the AWSC’s Snowmobile Friendly Community Program: 1. Create an Award: to recognize/thank the volunteers in the Club and Community who work relessly to support, pre‐

serve, and/or protect snowmobiling…(in short, no ma er how large or small the community, award them with a sign/symbol celebra ng the collec ve efforts of their local Trails)

2. Create a Tool to advocate for snowmobiling: The Award would be u lized by the Community, Club, or County to:

Account for and increase visibility of their Volunteers, (celebrate and mo vate) Improve rela onships with their Community by/thru:

Engaging with key stakeholders (educate) Partnerships, ac vi es, and events (par cipate)

Friendly Algoma has a lot to offer the winter spor ng groups with snowmobile trails, cross country skiing and ice fishing. We have places that offer from burgers and fries to steak and the trimmings. We have Von S ehl Winery that’s open year round for tours and you can get to them all by snowmobile or car. We do have hotels that stay open year round. We are a small city, how small? We do NOT have any stop and go lights in our City. Which means we are small enough to say ” Hello” to everybody!! So if you look to visit us, we are open year round with fishing on Lake Michigan!

Kewaunee County has 204 miles of snowmobile trails and the Algoma Snowriders Snowmobile Club takes care of 49 ½ miles of these.

The Eagle River area truly exemplifies a Snowmobile Friendly Community. Our “community” is comprised of four local municipali es: The City of Eagle River, Town of Washington, Town of Lincoln, and Town of Cloverland. The Sno‐Eagles has worked with each of these communi es to develop rela onships which promote snowmobiling in the Eagle River area.

The Sno‐Eagles maintains a world‐class snowmobile trail system with vehicle and trailer parking trail‐side and access to snowmobile trails from city and town roads. All Sno‐Eagles equipment is stored in structures on city‐owned land and leased to the club at no cost. The Sno‐Eagle trails are an integral connec on to the en re snowmobile trail system in Vilas County’s 900 miles of trails, Wisconsin’s Northwoods, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In addi on, the World Championship Snowmobile Derby, held annu‐ally in Eagle River, is a major a rac on for snowmobilers from across the na on.

Area businesses work coopera vely with the Sno‐Eagles to raise funds needed to maintain safe trails ensuring the Eagle River area is a winter tourism des na on. It is this dedicated community rela onship with businesses and local government that enables the Sno‐Eagles to provide a high‐quality snowmobiling experience that a racts visitors to the Eagle River area, the “Snowmobile Capital of the World®”

Snowmobiling is strongly supported by local government, businesses, and people, which undoubtedly makes the Eagle River area a welcoming “Snowmobile Friendly Community.”

As one of the Midwest’s most popular vaca on des na ons, the Hayward area and Sawyer County take great pride in being an amazing outdoor recrea on playground. While our summers are beau ful, we feel our winters are absolutely magical! There is no be er way to experience this magic of our ‘Neck’ of the Woods than on a snowmobile. The variety of landscapes and extensive net‐work of trails, along with our rider friendly restaurants, lodging and welcoming communi es ensure a memorable experience for all riders!

We are extremely thankful in both the Hayward area and throughout Sawyer County to have a strong network of snowmobile clubs that comprise our Sawyer County Snowmobile and ATV Alliance. Our unbelievable trail system would not be possible without their year round dedica on to our trail system.

The Tomahawk Area is home to 400 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. These trails are maintained by the Northwoods Passage Snowmobile Club, the Knight Owls Snowmobile Club and the Northern Trails Unlimited Snowmobile Club. We are further supported by three addi onal social clubs: the Northwoods Riders Snowmobile Club, the Harshaw Wanderers and the Hooligans. Our social clubs assist with trail brushing and marking, maintenance, training youth riders and fund‐raising events. Located just off the Hwy 51/39 corridor we are visited by riders from around the state as well as neighboring Illinois and Minnesota snowmobile enthusiasts. Our loca on provides central trail access to trails in all direc ons and our area boasts some of the best dining, lodging and taverns in the state. Snowmobile season is an exci ng me and we look forward to seeing old friends and making new friends each and every year.

Iron County has long been known for snowfall amounts on average of 175‐200” a year, superb trails and friendly establishments. With over 200 miles of well groomed trails, Iron County is a snowmobilers dream come true. Begin your trip in Mercer and visit Claire d’Loon, the World’s Largest Loon. As you head north, travel along the former railroad grade for a direct route or meander through the trails that lead to the Island Lake area and along the Gile Flowage to get to Hurley. Once in Hurley, you can go east to the Western U. P. of Michigan (be sure to get a Michigan Trail Pass) or go west and visit the Plummer Mine Headframe in between Pence and Iron Belt. Con nue west and turn north in Upson to visit the spectacular shoreline of Lake Superior.

All along the way you will be welcomed by warm, friendly establishments ready to serve up tradi onal special es and outstanding customer service. There are historical markers to visit such as the B47 Crash Site. Check out scenic vistas and capture some photos of your group. Several of the area’s infamous waterfalls are accessible in winter, reference the county trail map.

Trails are well marked for ease of naviga on and several loca ons offer gas for purchase. Plan a trip to Iron County and experience a unique snowmobile adventure that allows you the opportunity to unplug from the noise. Iron County ‐‐ THE Snow Capital of Wis‐consin.

T S . G St. Germain is located in Vilas County between Minocqua and Eagle River and has always been a big supporter of snowmobiling. Our merchants, restaurants and motels/resorts appreciate snowmobilers to help keep our economy thriving during the winter months. St. Germain has abundant lodging establishments including motels, resorts and private homes to accommodate any group visi ng our area. We are known for our warm breakfast cafés, invi ng lunch stops and of course, world class supper clubs! For those who prefer to rent equipment, there are numerous loca ons to help the visitor gear up and hit the trails.

The Bo‐Boen Snowmobile Club grooms 100 miles of trails daily during the season. We have three groomers that go out each evening for two shi s each. We receive many compliments on our trail system. We are the largest club in Wisconsin and are celebra ng 50 years this year! The Town of St. Germain allows snowmobiles to access the nearest trail via town roads. The Chamber of Commerce and the Club have Facebook sites that feature 60 – 90 second videos offering ps and informa on regarding safe, trouble‐free and especially FUN rides.

T T L Three Lakes is a cozy community located in North East Oneida county on the south end of 28 interconnected lakes‐the largest chain of freshwater lakes in the world. We are also on the western edge of the 650,000 acre Chequamegon‐Nicolet Na onal Forest where a good por on of our 168 miles of our snowmobile trails are located

Our trails system traverses the most scenic country that Wisconsin has to offer. The Kimball trail will take you through the pris ne Nicolet Na onal Forest and provides your connec on to Vilas and Forest coun es. Our southern trails will lead you to Rhinelander, Monico, and Pelican Lake areas. Trails to the North and West will give you access to our neighbors in Sugar Camp, St. Germain, and Eagle River.

Sco Eilertson was born and raised in St Paul, MN. A er gradua ng from North St Paul High School in 1973, Sco traveled across the US and Canada for three years performing mul ple dare‐devil acts as the “Evel Knievel of Snowmobiling.” Jumping things with a snowmobile the way Evel Knievel jumped motorcycles, Sco would jump anything he could get lined up. By 1976, Sco had perfected and was well known for his Towering Inferno Jump. Sco ’s performances ul mately led to a call from Evel Knievel himself. Sco and Evel quickly became friends and performed to‐gether in 1977. In 1978, Sco enlisted in the US Navy where he served for nine years. While sta‐oned in Iceland in 1979, Sco organized Iceland’s “First‐Ever” snowmobile race.

A er separa ng from the US Navy in 1986, Sco came back to Minnesota and began working for Tousley Motorsports in Whitebear Lake. A er star ng in Sales, Sco quickly rose through the ranks at Tousley, to include serving as their General Manag‐er for five years. While at Tousley, Sco began working on an idea he had to ride a snowmobile from Minnesota to Moscow, Russia. A er a mee ng with former Vice President Walter Mondale in 1987, the “Dream” was quickly becoming more than just an idea. Only two and a half years later – in 1990 ‐ Sco Eilertson successfully completed his Minnesota to Moscow Snowmobile Expedi on with two other Arc c Cat riders. By 1998, Sco ’s passion for snowmobiling led him to a posi on with Arc c Cat. From 1998‐2017, Sco served as Arc c Cat’s District Sales Manager for mul ple regions in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa un l his re rement from Arc c Cat in 2018. Sco and his wife Faith live in Hudson, WI. The Eilertson’s have three children: a daughter: Geneva, and two sons: Jacob and Ross.

Blue Mounds State Park Master Plan Revision Informa on

The DNR has announced they are ini a ng the planning process for the Blue Mound State Park Master Plan Revision. It will begin with a scoping process that will ask what needs to be considered in the new Plan. The result of this process will be a master plan that replaces the exis ng 1984 master plan.

People are also encouraged to visit the Blue Mound State Park Master Plan website by going to the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov searching keywords "property planning" and Blue Mound State Park under "Property‐based plans in progress".

You can access the online survey and provide input by clicking on this link: h ps://survey123.arcgis.com/share/a44b9cf3153842f287857cd98864cb16 This survey provides an opportunity to support a snowmobile connector trail from the Military Ridge State Trail to the regional trail network on private lands north of the park. Snowmobiles currently use the Mound Park Road right‐of‐way for this connec on and we are asking for a safer, more enjoyable trail through the Park.

Comment through the survey will be accepted through March 26, 2019.
