Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are committed to keeping our campus healthy and we appreciate your continued support!

Please read the following information as a guide to knowing when is it appropriate to keep

students home from school.

WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL

Deciding when to keep a sick child at home from school is not always easy. While we value

consistent attendance, it is important for a child who is sick, to stay home in the care of an adult,

to get well and to prevent spreading illness to others in the classroom.

WHAT ARE IMPORTANT SIGNS OF ILLNESS?

Some important signs of illness are:

* A temperature of more than 100.ºF * Sore throat

* Nausea or vomiting * Rash or infection of the skin

* Diarrhea * Red or pink eye

* Persistent/severe headache * Stomach pain (severe/persistent)

* Uncontrollable frequent cough * Loss of energy or decrease in activity

* Severe seasonal allergies

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHILD HAS ANY OF THESE SIGNS?

If your child has any of these symptoms, your child is not permitted at school until he or she is

clear of these systems for 24 hours.

If the symptoms are severe or persist for more than 24 hours, you should contact your

pediatrician. There may be times that your child does not show signs of the above-noted

symptoms but may be ill and not feeling well. You must be alert to your child's health and to

decide when it is best to send him/her to school even if the symptoms above are not present.

Please let the main office know if your student will be out due to an illness by calling 301-422-

3858 or sending an email to your teacher with a cc to the nurse ([email protected]) .

WHEN MAY MY CHILD RETURN TO SCHOOL AFTER AN ILLNESS?

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that individuals stay home “until at least 24

hours after they no longer have a fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.8 degrees Celsius) or

signs of a fever (chills, feeling very warm, flushed appearance, or sweating) without the use

of fever-reducing medicine.” http://www.cdc.gov/flu/school/guidance.htm

Page 5: TA Prep Roar · Hazel Marroquin. Pastor Marroquin is the pastor for hildren and Family Ministries at ... case it is necessary to contact you for pick up. Please check your account

Generally, your child may return to school when he/she is free of signs of illness. However, there

may be times when it is necessary for your child to see your source of medical care before

returning to school. Please consult with your physician’s office in these cases.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF MY CHILD BECOMES ILL AT SCHOOL?

If your child complains of being sick or is not well enough to participate in classroom activities,

they will be sent to the Nurse’s office for assessment and we will contact you directly. It is

important that you provide the school with up-to-date information and phone numbers to call in

case it is necessary to contact you for pick up. Please check your account on Ren Web to make

sure your contact numbers and email address are correct.

We value your support in assisting us in keeping the students healthy and the environment safe.

Please keep this notice for reference throughout the school year.

Thank you,

Jennifer Danticat RN

Dear Parents at TAPREP:

This school year, 2019-2020, marks the 7th year for the operation of the Caring Card Club (CCC). This club prays for and sends encouraging messages to 20 schools in the Greater Takoma Park Area. We meet all school year long to send electronic, commercial and handcrafted cards to elementary, middle, high school, colleges and universities. We are launching this year’s club program on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

Here’s what you need to know: 1. The CCC meets every Tuesday from 3:15 – 5:00 2. The meeting place is the Sligo SDA Church at the Greenwood St. entrance. 3. The non-refundable dues are $25.00 for the entire school year. 4. We are accepting the first 10 students who enroll and pay their dues in advance. 5. Transportation will be provided to the church in the Sligo Church van. Parents are responsible for prompt pick-up at 5:00 p.m. 6. Club membership is open only to students in grades 4-8.

When the student enrolls you will be given access to the CCC FaceBook page. Pictures of the work they do will be posted on Pinterest.

Thanks for your interest and support.

Sincerely,
