The formation of the

Catholic Christian person,

who is called to be a truedisciple of Jesus Christ, is a

of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Ladyof Consolacion (ASOLC), and the Church

Magisterium, the Association of Schools

of the Augustinian Sisters of our Lady of Consolacion (ASAS) has identified

Religion or Christian Living as the CORE

subject in its curriculum. ReligiousEducation is envisioned to embrace five

basic characteristics:

8/6/2019 T1 classnotes 1

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/t1-classnotes-1 22/52

1. Contextualized - Religious Education in

deeply rooted in the faith-life experiences of

students and teachers who live in differentregions of the Philippines. It thus integrates

history, sociology, economic-political, socio-

cultural, and eco-feminist realities of theworld, in general, and the Philippines society,

in particular. It believes that the practice of

the Christian faith is not isolated from

experiences of the community of Jesus

discipleships (the Church of the Poor) and the

signs of the times.

8/6/2019 T1 classnotes 1

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/t1-classnotes-1 23/52

2. Scripture-based

The soul of Christian Religious Education is the

person and the message of Jesus of Nazareth,

the Christ, the Son of God, who is the self -

manifestation of God-self. The basic Christian

message then is to be taken from the Old andNew Testaments which present the foundations

and life-story, the words and works of Jesus and

the ancient Christian community. The stories of

Jesus and the ancient Christian community are

normative to the present day Christians praxis

of faith and life.

8/6/2019 T1 classnotes 1

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/t1-classnotes-1 24/52

3. Integrated

The three dimensions of the Christian faith,DOCTRINE, MORAL, WORSHIP (DMW) are taken

up individually yet in an integrated manner.

While each lesson has a definite focus (D or M

or W), the other dimensions are integrated withit. This integration aims to unify all the aspects

of faith-life realities so as to develop a Whole

Christian person.

8/6/2019 T1 classnotes 1

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/t1-classnotes-1 25/52

4. Augustinian

The aspects of Augustinian spirituality thatare relevant to the modern Christian are

integrated in the program. Since the

Augustinian Sisters and their schools are

inspired by the spirit of great St. Augustine, his

life and writings his teachings on the interior

life, community life, love and justice are given

place.

8/6/2019 T1 classnotes 1

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/t1-classnotes-1 26/52

5. Nationalist

As Catholic schools in the Philippines,

Religious, Religious education aims to participate

in the shaping of the Filipino peoples history and

life trough formal education. It can contribute to

the development of a Filipino consciousnessamong the students, that would think, judge,

choose and act on behalf of the Filipino,

especially the poor.
