T his Sunday’s Gospel concludes our reading this year from St. Mark. As we approach the

end of our Church Year the Scriptures present images that both challenge and comfort. We hear Jesus’ dramatic prediction of earthly tribu-lation and cosmic cataclysms. He warns of our readiness for his second coming in judgment at the end of time, our preparedness to meet him when he comes in glory. Daniel describes the world’s end as “a time unsurpassed in distress since nations began”. But adds a comforting image of the wise and just shining forever like the stars. Jesus pictures God’s elect being gathered together by the an-gels. The Letter to the Hebrews reminds us that Jesus offered himself in sacrifice to take away our sins and make us holy. God’s Word bids us face the future with confidence and hope. “But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father”.

NEXT WEEK SPECIAL COLLECTION CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (CCHD):

WORKING ON THE MARGINS I n the words of Pope Francis: The measure of the greatness of a

society is found in the way it treats those most in need”. With these words he continues to bring our attention back to the poor and our

responsibility towards them. The CCHD responds directly to this call by addressing the root causes of poverty in the United States. Our Holy Father inspires us to joyfully and creatively find ways to bring the Good News to the poor. CCHD was founded in 1970 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States, primarily through the efforts of our former Bishop, Francis Mugavero, as their domestic anti-poverty program. CCHD brings to life Pope Francis’ vision by supporting projects to build healthy, sustainable futures for those living on the margins of our com-munities. This last year over $345,000.00 was given to 8 organizations in our Diocese working with former prisoners, immigrants and the poor seeking employment, just working conditions and ways out of poverty. Please continue the “Walk with Francis” as hr reminds us: “The future of humanity does not lie solely in the hands of great leaders, the great powers and the elites. It is fundamentally in the hands of peoples and in their ability to organize. It is in their hands, which can guide with hu-mility and conviction this process of change. I am with you. Each of us, let repeat from the heart: no family without lodging, no rural worker without land, no laborer without rights, no people without sovereignty, no individual without dignity, no child without childhood, no young per-son without a future, no elderly person without a venerable old age”. (Pope Francis, Address at the World Meeting of Popular Movements, Bolivia)

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by funding community programs that encourage independence. You are essential to its success. Your generous dona-tions will give those in poverty the support they need to make lasting changes. Together, we can make a dif-ference in families and communities across the United States. Please donate prayerfully and generously. Thank you.

Padre Nodius Tancial.

Imagine if every-one left $10,000 or even $1,000 to the Parish! For any questions or more information please call the Rectory 718-627-2020.
