NZTC LAUNCHES NEW POSTGRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS!

Announcing our new Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Management) and Master of Early Childhood Education

The College will add to its portfolio of postgraduate study options for students with the delivery of a 60 credit Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Management) and a 180 credit Master of Early Childhood Education. The new qualifications are in addition to the two current postgraduate qualifications - the Master of Education (ECE) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (ECE).

After engaging with over 330 early childhood professionals, including the Early Childhood Council, graduates, Associate Teachers and students, the voice of the ECE community shared their need for a qualification that equips learners with sector specific management, mentoring and leadership skills.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Management) has been developed to meet these needs with the qualification requiring only six months of study to complete. NZTC’s online learning environment (NZTC Online) also gives busy students the flexibility to study at a time and place that suits them.

The Master of Early Childhood Education is an 18 month qualification tailored to early childhood professionals who wish to advance their scholarship in curriculum, leadership, advocacy and ethics at a postgraduate level through coursework. It enables those who hold positions such as managers and senior teaching staff to enhance the leadership and mentoring of staff

in their centres and grow in their professional specialisation of working with families and young children. This qualification is an excellent alternative to the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (ECE) as it is only six months longer in duration and enables students to achieve a higher level of study through coursework.

“NZTC continues to assess the needs of the early childhood sector and the best ways to support these. We are excited to offer a new Master of Early Childhood Education by coursework and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Management) in support of our profession. We look forward to meeting with students in the coming months to discuss these new options which offer new pathways for students to achieve their postgraduate dreams,” commented NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox.

Applications for the February intake for these qualifications are now open. For more information about these exciting new postgraduate study options, please click HERE or call +64 9 520 4000 / +64 3 366 8000.

Please note: International students are unable to study towards the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Management) in New Zealand due to visa restrictions. Delivery to offshore students is pending final NZQA approval. We will notify you when this is confirmed in the New Year.

New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) continues its commitment to innovation and early childhood teacher education with the delivery of two new NZQA approved postgraduate qualifications in 2016.

The revised qualification incorporates the latest research on the care and education of young children, as well as extensive feedback from students, Associate Teachers and early childhood education experts.

The NZTC Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (EDUCANZ), with graduates being eligible to apply for New Zealand teacher registration upon completion.

The College Values of Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit underpin all the courses within the qualification making the content unique to NZTC, while reflecting on our sector’s voice.

With higher-level content to improve learning outcomes and increase critical engagement, the qualification will become slightly longer, shifting from 150 credits over 1.25 years to 160 credits over 1.33 years.

Program revisions include a stronger focus on infants and toddlers, Tiriti-based and bi-cultural practice, and reflective action research. Additionally, the duration of Field Practice placements have been extended, with the areas of learning for students closely aligning with course content and interwoven so that practical experiences support a deeper understanding of theory.

New videos and interactive content have also been developed to best support our students in becoming highly professional early childhood practitioners.

NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox commented, “NZTC aims to empower our graduates with the knowledge, skills, values and beliefs necessary for them to serve young children and their families with excellence. The revamped Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) aligns with this goal and we look forward to supporting our students throughout their studies.”
