LA LITURGIA DE LA PALABRA THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

The Liturgy of the Word begins immediately following the Collect prayer at the end of the Introductory Rites. It is comprised of: First Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Second Reading, Gospel, Homily, Profession of Faith, and the Universal Prayer (Prayer of the Faithful). Proclamation of the Word of God is a dialogue with God. We hear the words of salvation history both from the Old and New Testament—words that tell the story of God’s participation in His own creation—words that have established the covenant relationship between God and His people. The First Reading is usually taken from the Old Testament. The readings have been arranged in such a way as to have a common theme between the First Reading and the Gospel for any given Sunday. The Second Reading is most often taken from the letters of St. Paul or writings of the first apostles that were written to the communities of early Christians as they were learning what it meant to live as a new creation in Christ. The proclamation of the Gospel is the pinnacle moment of the Liturgy of the Word. We acclaim Christ in our midst using the word Alleluia! The goal of the homily is to explain and relate the words of the Gospel to the people gathered in this time and place. Having been nourished and having responded to God’s Holy Word through prayer and petition, the Liturgy of the Word is complete with the conclusion of the Universal Prayer.

La Liturgia de la Palabra comienza inmediatamente después de la oración colecta al final de los Ritos Introductorios. Se compone de: Primera lectura, Salmo responsorial, Segunda lectura, Evangelio, Homilía, Profesión de fe y Oración universal (Oración de los fieles). La proclamación de la Palabra de Dios es un diálogo con Dios. Escuchamos las palabras de la historia de la salvación tanto del Antiguo como del Nuevo Testamento, palabras que cuentan la historia de la participación de Dios en Su propia creación, palabras que han establecido la relación de pacto entre Dios y Su pueblo. La primera lectura generalmente se toma del Antiguo Testamento. Las lecturas se han organizado de manera que tengan un tema común entre la Primera Lectura y el Evangelio para cualquier domingo. La segunda lectura se toma con mayor frecuencia de las cartas de San Pablo o de los escritos de los primeros apóstoles que se escribieron a las comunidades de los primeros cristianos cuando estaban aprendiendo lo que significaba vivir como una nueva creación en Cristo. El anuncio del Evangelio es el momento cumbre de la Liturgia de la Palabra. Aclamamos a Cristo en medio de nosotros usando la palabra ¡Aleluya! El objetivo de la homilía es explicar y relatar las palabras del Evangelio a las personas reunidas en este tiempo y lugar. Habiendo sido nutridos y habiendo respondido a la Santa Palabra de Dios a través de la oración y la petición, la Liturgia de la Palabra se completa con la conclusión de la Oración Universal.

G od calls us to look out for each other. We must not cut ourselves off from our neighbor, because we are
responsible for one another. The Lord appoints Ezekiel “watchman for the house of Israel” (Ezekiel 33:7) to warn the sinful of the consequences of their sins. What’s more, God will hold Ezekiel responsible for his neighbor’s wrongs if he does not speak out. The Lord is telling him he cannot look the other way. Engage the sinner, counsel them to change, show the way. In the Gospel, Jesus adds another step. Begin by speaking out yourself, but if that is ineffective, draw others to your cause. For it is then, when two or more are united in need and gathered together in Jesus’ name, that he is there with them. When we join with our neighbor, Jesus is in our midst. Saint Paul realizes the importance of our relationship with our neighbor when he sums up the commandments as Jesus had: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Romans 13:9). We are all God’s children, brothers and sisters called to care for one another even when we have been wronged. Whom do you need to confront or what do you need to speak out about? How can you do so constructively?

Porque es entonces, cuando dos o más se unen en necesidad y se reúnen en el nombre de Jesús, que él está allí con ellos. Cuando nos unimos a nuestro prójimo, Jesús está entre nosotros. San Pablo se da cuenta de la importancia de nuestra relación con nuestro prójimo cuando resume los mandamientos como lo hizo Jesús: “Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo” (Romanos 13:9). Todos somos hijos de Dios, hermanos y hermanas llamados a cuidarnos unos a otros incluso cuando se nos ha agraviado. ¿A quién necesitas confrontar o de qué necesitas hablar? ¿Cómo puedes hacerlo de manera constructiva?

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS 2020 CONTESTS
CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP ESSAY CONTEST The goal of this program is to involve young Catholics in grades 8 to 12 (public, private, parochial or home schools during the current school year) in civic discourse and instill in them religious and life-affirming values. In an essay of 500-750 words, discuss how trusting
in God during a difficult time has helped you or someone you know find the strength and hope to endure it. Consider especially those times when it was a challenge to understand why something was happening. SOCCER CHALLENGE The Soccer Challenge provides an athletic outlet for young people ages 9 to 14 through penalty kick competition designed for players to demonstrate their skills. SPRIRITUAL RX FOR STRESS AND ANXIETY RETREAT September 18-20, 2020— We all have stress. If it is not managed, it can lead to a crippling anxiety, blocking us from experiencing joy and vitality in everyday life. This San Pedro Spiritual Development Center retreat offers both spiritual and practical tools for managing stress and anxiety, opening us to God’s freedom and a peace that surpasses all understanding. Talks, Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and great community time as well as personal prayer and reflection time, Confession, recreation and more, provide an opportunity to cultivate peace in God’s presence. There will be licensed mental health therapists on site for dialogue, but formal counseling will not be a part of the retreat experience.
