Using words to describe any fine art will come up short, as it should, for I believe that one’s art prevails where words will fail -- so to speak. On the otherhand I’ll have a go at providing something of a preamble here and then let the work speak for itself.

There’s little doubt in my mind that I have become more interested in expressing my admiration for the spirit of my subject than only forming a testament to its external beauty. For me, every subject I seek to interpret holds a place and time in Nature. Some possess a nobility, while others may define a distinct courage, and skills finely tuned to their circumstances. Along with their distinctive role in their wild communities, their presence is vital to me in making a desert plateau unique, a sprawling tundra memorable or a shrouded forest inviting. Each subject brings a whispered secret to share of its particular place. The artist becomes the translator and conveyor of the message.

I’ve sought to bring forward the subtle, spiritual side of these subjects. Over many years, by directing my senses to their lives, I’ve made them an essential part of who I am -- Indeed, I’ve made them my spirit companions.
