With this sixth part, completing Volume III of the great Berlin Egyptian dictionary, three-fourths of the dictionary proper is now in print. The reader still longs, as before, for the appearance of the supplementary volume of citations, to which references are so carefully made throughout. It will un- doubtedly explain many of the questions raised by the reviewer's notes. These concern chiefly omissions. Examples are: Hcy-t~w, in Pyr. 242, 423, and 518, a deity; &mt in Lacau, Textes rel, XII, line 69, a garment; hn' (var. h4n and by), ibid., I, a verb of motion; hbb.b in Harhotep (ed. Maspero), line 158, var. of i[bib] in Pyr. 205; brp in Pyr. 1143, variant of jrp; trmt in Pyr. 1367 and 2015 (not in 1467; cf. 1453). In some cases cross-references alone should be added; in other cases a longer entry might be required to in- dicate Berlin interpretations to which no clue is now available.

The Wirterbuch, ordinarily so cautious, rarely commits itself in cases where inconsistent ideas might be held. For other possibilities than the print- ed one, however, compare, for example:

jwt [p. 246], in Pyr. 1727: This might be not "a goddess" but a verb in the second person qualitative or in a participial form.

hpy [p. 258]: It seems possible that the transitive uses of this verb might all contain the fundamental idea of "overtake."

hpyw [p. 259]: This means indeed "a kind of gods," but could well be literally translated "the departed," meaning the deified dead, as recognized by Gr6baut already in Rec., I (1870), 88.

hrw [p. 324, with throne determinative], in Pyr. 294: This would seem to be a noun for "throne" rather than a verb form.

Mr. Erichsen's autographing of the text is, as usual, remarkably accurate. The word swsw on page 429 offers a rare instance of sign omission, as the writings in Pyr. 1094 (its only occurrence) all add either a stroke or a divine determinative to the signs given.

Further parts of this invaluable work are eagerly awaited.
