Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension,
On Tuesday, May 16th, we welcome Bishop John O’Hara
to Ascension Church. Bishop O’Hara is one of New
York’s auxiliary bishops and he will come to us on that day
to celebrate with us the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
through the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament of
Confirmation will be celebrated at 6:00p.m. Those being
confirmed are about 83 in number. All are invited to
attend. We are equally happy to welcome Fr. John
Paddock, the pastor of Notre Dame and the dean of our
deanery (formerly Vicariate,) as well as Fr. Larry Ford,
OFM and Fr. Michael Crimmins from Holy Name of Jesus
- St. Gregory the Great. At the celebration of
Confirmation, we will welcome Confirmation candidates
from Notre Dame and Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregory the
Great Parish, as well as the students from St. Gregory’s
School. One of the recommendations from the “Making
All Things New” process a few years back, was that we
adapt a collaborative style of ministry, and work together
on things like Confirmation. We have tried to be faithful to
that recommendation. Because of the length of
Confirmation, there will be no 7:00p.m. Mass on that
evening.
And, finally, I would like to congratulate the 80 boys and
girls from Ascension parish who received their First Holy
Communion this weekend. The children were excited and
enthusiastic about the day. The children read at the Mass,
they learned their songs well and they sang together
beautifully. After the mass, all the first communicants and
their families were invited to the school auditorium for a
meal, hosted by Darren and Patrice Jean and some
generous parents. I’d like to extend a special word of
thanks to Ted Arthur who helped the children with the
music as well as Preston and Margarita. I would also like to
thank our wonderful Religious Ed. teachers who prepared
the children for First Communion, Gilberte Desir, Jan
Dugan, Claire Gaudaini, Miriam Ortiz, Jesus Ramos,
Marco Uruchima, and Jenna Motti, the second grade
teacher from our school. I would also like to thank Mery
Madera and Teresita Navarro for the decorations and the
flowers.
Thanks also to Robin Klueber. The children were extremely
well prepared for their First Communion and for this very
beautiful celebration. Thank you Robin for your dedication
and hard work! The fruits of her work were clear!

PASTOR’S LETTER NOTAS DEL PASTOR
Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de la Ascensión,
El martes, 16 de mayo, damos la bienvenida al obispo John
O’Hara a la iglesia de la Ascensión. Mons. O’Hara es uno
de los obispos auxiliares de Nueva York y vendrá aquí ese
día para celebrar con nosotros el derrame del Espíritu Santo
a través del sacramento de la confirmación. El sacramento
de la confirmación será celebrado a las 6 de la tarde. Los
que serán confirmados son 83 en número. Todos están
invitados a asistir. También estamos muy contentos de dar
la bienvenida al Padre John Paddock, el párroco de Notre
Dame y el decano de nuestro decanato (anteriormente
vicariato) al igual que al Padre Larry Ford, OFM, y al Padre
Michael Crimmins de Holy Name – San Gregorio Magno.
En la celebración de la confirmación daremos la bienvenida
a candidatos de confirmación de las parroquias de Notre
Dame y Holy Name-San Gregorio Magno, al igual que a
estudiantes de la escuela de San Gregorio Magno. Una de
las recomendaciones del proceso de “Haciendo Todas las
Cosas Nuevas” hace unos años fue que adaptáramos un
estilo de ministerio colaborativo y trabajáramos juntos en
cosas como la confirmación. Hemos tratado de ser fieles a
esta recomendación. A causa de la larga duración de la
confirmación, no habrá misa de las 7 esa noche.
Y, finalmente, me gustaría felicitar a los 80 niños y niñas
de la parroquia de la Ascensión que recibieron su primera
comunión este fin de semana. Los niños estuvieron
emocionados y entusiasmados ese día. Los niños leyeron
en la misa, se aprendieron bien sus cantos y cantaron juntos
bellísimo. Después de la misa, todos los primeros
comulgantes y sus familias fueron invitados al auditorio de
la escuela para una comida que fue organizada por Darren y
Patrice y otros padres de familias generosas. Me gustaría
extender una palabra especial de gracias a Ted Arthur que
ayudó a los niños con la música, al igual que a Preston y
Margarita. También me gustaría dar las gracias a nuestros
maravillosos maestros de Educación Religiosa que
prepararon a los niños para su primera comunión: Gilberte
Desir, Jan Dugan, Claire Gaudaini, Miriam Ortiz, Jesús
Ramos, Marco Uruchima y Jenna Motti, la maestra de
segundo grado en nuestra escuela. También me gustaría

100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima
May 13, 2017: St. Patrick's Cathedral,
51st Street & 5th Avenue:
This celebration will take place on the
feast of Our Lady of Fatima. There will
be a Holy Hour at 11:00am, followed by
Mass at 12:00noon. The United Nations
International Pilgrim Statue of the
World Apostolate of Fatima and the
first class relics of Blessed Francisco and
Blessed Jacinta Marto will be present
at the Cathedral for prayer and veneration before Mass
from 10:00am - 11:00am and after the Mass from 1:00pm -
4:00pm. You will also have the opportunity to leave prayer
petitions which will be delivered to the apparition chapel
in Fatima, Portugal .
