The USC 760XLT has 100 memorychannels, each of which can be pro-grammed to store one frequency. Thechannels are divided into 5-20 channelbanks, useful for storing similar fre-quencies in order to maintain fasterscanning cycles. When scan ispressed, each of the programmed frequencieswithin a selected bank will be sampledfor a transmission (locked channels willbe skipped} at the rate of about 15channels per second. If an active fre-quency is found the unit will stop andmonitor that frequency until there isnolonger any activity. A two second delaycan be added to each channel and willallow the unit to monitor the frequen-cy for a return or continued transmis-sion. If, after two seconds, the fre-quency remains inactive, the scanningcycle will resume.

When the unit is first turned on, eachchannel will contain "000.000". Whennew frequencies are programmed, theold will be erased. Ifan invalid frequen-cy is entered, "Error" will be displayedand the old frequency will return. "ELoc" will also be displayed if memorylock is on.

To operate the scanner make sure thatthe power iscorrectly connected to theunit. Turn the volume control on andadjust the desired level. Adjust thesquelch by turning the knob fullyclockwise until a rushing sound isheard. Turn the knob back until the re-ceiver issilent. After the channels havebeen programmed, operation issimple.Press the scan key to scan all the chan-nels, press the manual key to stop thescanning, and manually step throughthe channels.

Note: The unit must be in the scanmode to select or deselect a channel

LCDDisplay

The USC 760XLT has a backlit displaywhich shows the current channel andfrequency as well as other operationalmodes. When the unit isscanning, thechannel number will rapidly advancewhile the frequency display will goblank. When the scanner is stoppedthe current channel and frequency willagain be displayed.

When frequencies are programmedthe display will show the digits as theyare entered. The display will also show"PRI"when the priority mode is on, "LI0" whenever a channel appears thathas been locked out, and "DLY"when-ever a channel has been programmedfor delay. In the upper left hand cornerof the display the numbers 1-5 will bepresent. These are the bank indicatornumbers. These are selected or dese-lected during the scan sequence by theuse of the numeric pad.

Programming

Toprogram a frequency into a channel, press the digits of that frequency in-cluding the decimal point and thenpress the enter key. If an invalid fre-quency is entered, the display willshow "Error." To change a frequencyenter the new one and the old one willbe erased.

Press thesearch key to start searching. Ifan ac-tive frequency is found the scanner willstop to monitor the signal. Press thehold key to hold the search on this fre-quency. Press the hold key again tostep up to the next frequency or pressthe limit key to step down to the previ-ous frequency. When the signal stopsthe unit will continue searching. Pressthe manual key to leave the searchmode.

The following is a brief description ofthe operational features of the UBC760XLT.Manual Channel Selection - Tomanually select a channel, press themanual key repeatedly until the de-sired channel number appears in thedisplay.

To programthese frequency bands it is only neces-sary to input an upper frequency and alower frequency to specify a searchrange within one band (66 - 88, J08 -136, J36 - J74, 350 - 5 J2, or 806 -956).In the following example, the pro-gramming of one frequency band on L2will be initiated.

Priority - When it is important to keeptrack of the activity on one frequencywhile listening to others, the priorityfunction should be used. Program theimportant frequency into channel one.Press the priority key to activate the pri-ority function. Every2 seconds the unitwill check channel one for activity Ithepriority indicator will appear in the dis-play). Ifa transmission is found the unitwill monitor that channel. Mobile Antenna

In the mobile application the Bearcat760XLT will require an external vehicleantenna. Use a mobile antenna de-signed for multi-band coverage. Formaximum effectiveness, the externalantenna should be fed with Iow loss50ohm coaxial such as RG58 foam. Re-member, you have purchased the fin-est mobile scanner available, so don'tcompromise its performance with aninferior antenna. We recommend us-ing the (optional' Uniden BC-ATJ mo-bile antenna for best results.Ideally, the antenna should be mount-ed directly in the center of the vehicle'sroof.

The radiation and reception pattern ofa vehicular antenna always conformsto the ground plane (metal shape' lo-cated below the antenna. ,l\ roofmounted antenna provides virtually anomnidirectional pattern. If the anten-na was mounted on the left rear fen-der, the best reception would occurfrom the right front fender of the vehi-cle, with greatly reduced receptionfrom the left rear. Avoid mounting theantenna on a front fender, as ignitionnoise can limit reception.

Connecting the Power

The UBC 760XLT is designed to beused in 'any vehicle which has a 13.8-volt DC negative-ground electrical sys-tem. Ifyou cannot determine the po-larityofyourvehicle, consultyourvehi-cle dealer for information.

Note: The use of this radio in a motorvehicle may be regulated or require apermit in certain states or certain cities.

The UBC760XLTshould be connecteddirectly to the fuse block or battery ofyour car. Connect the power cord tothe back of the radio in thejack marked"DC 13.8V".

Desktop Installation

The UBC 760XLT has a unique designfeature that allows the unit to be usedas an in-home scanner. The fold-outfoot sets the unit at a proper angle fordesk or table-top use. Simplyswing thefoot out until it locks in its upright posi-tion.

Note: Please be sure that the foot isfolded out completely in order to avoidaccidental damage to the unit.

TION:"""':""

Telescopic Antenna

The UBC 760XLT includes a telescopicantenna for use in desktop installtions.Insert the antenna into the opening onthe rear apron of the radio, and fully ex-tend it. Under normal conditions thisantenna should provide excellent re-ception. However, factors such as loca-tion within your home, and proximityto electrical appliances may determinereception quality. For weak signal re-ception or electrically noisy locations,an external antenna may be helpful.

AC Adapter

The UBC 760XLT can be powered bythe AC Adapter included with thescanner which converts standardhousehold current to 12.0 V Dc. Plugthe small connector of the AC Adapterinto the jack in the back of the radiomarked DC 13.8V. Plug the other endinto any standard 220 VAC householdoutlet.

Note: Please be sure to use only model818F41 24 AC Adapter, as higher vol-tage, or reverse polarity may damageyour unit.

Memory Backup

Frequencies maintained in the UBC760XLT memory are protected fromloss in the event of electrical power in-terruption by lithium battery. This bat-tery should be replaced every 10years.
