Liu later was detained for disrupting social orders and hindering police duty. Landslide rescue THE Shenzhen-based China Railway Tunnel No. 3 Depart- ment Engineering Co. Ltd. sent 20 employees at a con- struction site of the Lanzhou- Chengdu Railway to start an on-site search and rescue after a landslide in Maoxian County buried more than 100 people in Sichuan Province on Saturday. The railway project con- tractor also offered machin- ery, technicians and rescue employees to help in the rescue work. The first batch of rescue teams arrived at the scene two hours after the inci- dent. As of 4 p.m. Saturday, the team has provided more than 20 personnel, two large pieces of equipment and three vehicles. SHENZHEN Customs busted 192 drug trafficking cases in the past 12 months, a year-on-year increase of 40 percent, and ranked first in China’s customs system in terms of drug cases, local Chinese-language media reported yesterday. Among the 1,317 kg of drugs, 379 kg were heroin and ice, Shenzhen Customs said in a release Sunday, on the eve of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking that fell on yesterday. In the past 12 months, Shenzhen Customs allied with police on 11 anti-drug actions, intercepting 145 kilograms of narcotics that were intended to be sent overseas through mail services. Shenzhen Customs worked with authorities in foreign coun- tries to establish and develop a communication mechanism. In a joint action in March, Shenzhen Customs busted a cross-border sea freight drug trafficking case through cooperation with Dong- guan, Hong Kong and Australia. Five suspects were arrested and 101.7 kilograms of methamphet- amine were seized. Shenzhen Customs intercepted two packages that were declared as food to be delivered to France and Britain last November. Two bags of white crystal particles, weighing 986.32 grams, were later identified as methamphet- amine. Epileptic seizures are episodes that vary in intensity from brief and nearly undetectable to long periods of vigorous shak- ing. These episodes can result in physical injuries including occa- sional broken bones. Epilepsy has become the second-most common neurological disease in China fol- lowing headaches. Ye, who works in Shenzhen, went to the Criminal Investiga- tion Department of Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau in May to ask police for help in finding his biological parents. He told the police that he suspected that he had been abducted when he was young. The CID took Ye’s blood sample and entered his DNA information into the national DNA database for missing children. They con- firmed that Ye, born in January 1992, had been abducted in Guizhou in 1998. Ye’s biological parents’ DNA information was also recorded in the database. Ye’s original surname was Liang. The police arranged a reunion in Shenzhen for the family. The father said he had never stopped thinking about his son over the past 19 years. “We would put an extra pair of chopsticks on the table during festivals because we firmly believed that he would come home one day,” said the father. The father recalled that he and his wife were working in Anhui Province when they received his mother-in-law’s call, saying that their son had gone missing. The boy was sleeping at home while it was pouring outside. His grandmother found out that he was missing and called local police, who caught the suspected abductor, but didn’t track down the child. Over the past 19 years, the Liangs visited many places in China, including Fujian and Anhui, trying to find their son.
