In the republic of Peru, 109 families of coffee producers located in la Corrillera Azul, survivors of 

the social violence of terrorism and drug trafficking in the eighties and nineties, were searching 

for  peace  and  legal  economical  development.  On  the  20th  of  February  2001,  with  the  help  of 

the Program of the Unites Nations, they took the democratic decision to set up the Agricultural 

Coffee Producer Cooperative Divisoria Ltd., commercially known as “La Divisoria”.

At  present,  La  Divisoria,  consists  of  666  families  of  small  producers  of  high  quality  coffee  and 

cocoa.  The  first  two  years were difficult  for  La Divisoria  due  to  the prices on  the  international 

coffee market ($0,50 per 0,60/lb), which did not cover the cost of production. 

Thanks  to  the  strong  effort  and  perseverance  of  the  leading members  of  the  organisation,  La 

Divisoria continued to work hard on producing high quality coffee. Motivated by the existence of 

speciality markets they exported three containers with extra value coffee in 2003 to the United 

States, Germany and Japan.
