PurposeThis bulletin provides detailed instructions for installing the ADVIA Centaur CP systemsoftware and other applications that are necessary to run the system.

ActionPerform these procedures at a time coordinated with the customer. For new installations,refer to the Installation Guide (part number 086D0006-xx) for instructions on when toperform these procedures.

Pre-Installation Tasks

Assembling the Necessary MaterialsEnsure that you have all the necessary CDs for this installation at hand.

• ADVIA QC Software CD

• ADVIA QC Online Help CD

• System Software 3.2.0 CD

• Online Help CD

• Assay Instructions CD

• TDefs CD (1.0.F)

• Manufacturers calibration CD

Ensure that you have the following information from the system:

• System serial number (displayed on a metal plate on the left side of the system nearthe main power switch)

• Digital 1 and digital 2 values (displayed on the PCB label located on the side of thesample probe mounting assembly)

Turning the Computer On1. Ensure that the system power is on.

2. Press the power button on the computer.

3. Press the power button on the monitor.

Wait for the Windows XP log on screen to display.

4. On the Windows XP log on screen, select FSE.

5. Log on using your service-level password.

Installing the Software

Installing the ADVIA® QC Software and Online Help1. Install the ADVIA® QC software:

a. Insert the ADVIA QC CD into the computer CD drive, and then close the tray.

b. Follow the window prompts.

c. When the installation process is complete, remove the CD from the CD drive.

2. Install the ADVIA QC Online Help system:

a. Insert the ADVIA QC Online Help CD into the computer CD drive, and thenclose the tray.

b. Follow the window prompts and accept any defaults.

c. When the installation process is complete, remove the CD from the CD drive.

Installing the System SoftwareInstall the ADVIA Centaur CP system software:

1. Insert the System Software CD into the computer CD drive, and then close the tray.

2. Follow the window prompts and accept any defaults.

3. When prompted, enter the system serial number, and then click Next.

The serial number is displayed on a metal plate on the left side of the system near themain power switch.

4. When the installation process is complete, click Finish.

5. Remove the CD from the CD drive.

Importing the Automated Maintenance Files1. At the desktop, start the ADVIA Centaur CP system software.

The system software icon is on the desktop.

2. Sign in using your service-level user name and password.

3. At the workspace, select Maintenance.

4. Select Import.

5. Navigate to the CD drive containing the ADVIA Centaur CP system software.

6. Select the * Maintenance Tasks.mnt file for your language (where * is one of thelanguages).

7. Click Open.

The maintenance files are now updated on the system.

8. Remove the CD from the CD drive, and then close the tray.

Updating the TDefs

WARNINGDo not proceed with this procedure until you remove the primary reagent packs installedon the system. Updating the test definitions with primary reagent packs loaded on thesystem may cause some tests to run incorrectly after the update.

1. Remove any primary reagent packs installed on the system and store them in arefrigerator.

2. Remove any sample racks installed on the system.

3. Insert the Test Definitions CD into the computer CD drive.

If an Explorer window displays, close it.

4. At the workspace, select Setup.

5. On the Setup screen, select the Assay tab.

6. Select Import.

7. On the Open window, navigate to the CD drive and select the TDef file name with an.asy extension.

8. Select Open.

9. On the Event message window, ensure that 31 test definitions and 24 dilutions areinstalled.

10. Remove the CD from the computer CD drive.

Verifying the Software VersionsVerify that the correct software versions are installed.

1. If necessary, sign in to the system software.

2. On the taskbar, select the Online Help (?) button.

3. Select the Library tab.

4. Select Version Information.

5. Ensure that the version numbers listed are correct for the system software, and theTDefs.

6. Close the Online Help system.

Installing the Online Help System1. Insert the ADVIA Centaur CP Online Help CD into the computer CD drive, and then

close the tray.

2. Follow the window prompts.

3. When the installation process is complete, remove the CD from the CD drive.

Installing the Assay Instructions1. Insert the ADVIA Centaur CP Assay Instructions CD into the computer CD drive,

and then close the tray.

6. Follow the window prompts.

7. When the installation process is complete, remove the CD from the CD drive.

Post-Installation Tasks

Copying the Coordinate Files

CAUTIONDo not perform this procedure if you are upgrading from an earlier software version. Thisprocedure overwrites existing sample and reagent probe coordinates.

Perform this procedure only as part of a new system installation.

1. Locate the manufacturer’s calibration CD, located inside the accessory box thatshipped with the instrument.

2. Insert the calibration CD into the CD drive.

3. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the CD drive.

4. Locate the file ACCP.COO.

5. Copy the file to the workstation computer folder D:\Melias\Data\.

6. Click Yes, to overwrite the existing file.

7. Remove the CD from the CD drive.

Setting the Software and Online Help LanguageIf you have downloaded English for all your software, proceed to the next section.

1. Select a language for the ADVIA QC software:

a. At the workspace, select Results.

b. Select the Quality Control tab.

c. Select ADVIA QC.

d. On the ADVIA QC Control Panel window, select OK.

e. On the ADVIA QC taskbar, select Setup.

f. From the Software Language drop-down menu, select your language.

g. From the Help Language drop-down menu, select your language.

h. Select OK.

i. Select OK again.

j. Click the close button (x) in the upper right corner of the window.

2. Confirm that the language displays:

a. Select ADVIA QC.

b. Select OK.

c. Confirm that your language is displayed on the user interface.

d. Select the Help button.

e. Confirm that your language is displayed on the ADVIA QC Online Help system.

f. Close the ADVIA QC Online Help system.

g. On the ADVIA QC taskbar, select the Reduce button.

3. Select a language for the system software:

a. At the ADVIA Centaur CP workspace, select Setup.

b. Select the System tab.

c. In the Display Format area, from the Language drop-down menu, select yourlanguage.

d. Select Save.

8. Exit the system software:

a. On the taskbar, select Exit.

b. Select Yes.

c. Select No.

d. Select Exit to Desktop.

Copying the System Firmware and Parameter FilesThis procedure loads firmware to the ADVIA Centaur CP system.

1. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP system off.

2. Turn the system back on.

3. At the workstation desktop, double-click the ADVIA Centaur CP Tools folder.

4. Double-click Parameters.

5. If an Internet Explorer message window (“ActiveX”) displays, select Yes.

9. Follow the steps below depending on what your system displays:

If… Then…

an “Installation Bachdatei” messagewindow displays (in German),

1. Click OK.

2. On the Registry Editor window, clickYes.

3. On the Registry Editor window, clickOK.

4. On the message window(“Installation Bachdatei”), click OK.

5. On the Registry Editor window, clickYes.

6. On the Registry Editor window, clickOK.

7. On the message window(“Installation Bachdatei”), click OK.

8. Close the Parameter Script windowby clicking the close button (x) in theupper right corner of the window.

9. In the ADVIA Centaur CP Toolsfolder, double-click Parameters.

If a message window (“Active Xcontrol”) displays, click Yes.

10. On the Parameter Script window, click the red RS232 Server button at the lower leftcorner of the window.

The button turns green. If a small window in the upper right corner of the ParametersScript window displays (“Break, KillAll…”), ignore the window.

If a message window (“Active X”) displays, click Yes.

11. Click the Firmware Upgrade button.

Wait a few minutes. In the Communication & Report Control area at the lower leftcorner of the window, the parameters display.

12. On the message window (“Parameters successfully written”), click OK to thiswindow only.

CAUTIONDo not select OK on the small message window at this time. Doing so may interrupt thecopying process.

13. Perform the following procedure:

a. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP system off.

b. Disconnect the RS-232 cable from the ADVIA Centaur CP system.

c. Connect the RS-232 cable to the firmware uploading tool.

d. Connect the firmware uploading tool to the ADVIA Centaur CP system.

e. Wait at least 1 minute.

f. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP system on.

g. On the VBScript message window, select OK.

The green RS232 Server button at the lower left corner of the window turns red.

14. On the Uniload Version 2.0.6 message window, confirm that the latestADVIA Centaur CP system software version displays in the Load Script field.

The script file name should contain the same version of software as the software CDthat you are installing. For example, if the CD label indicates V3.2, the load scriptfield should display D:\\Melias\\Download\\centaur_CP_V3.2.CND.

If the ADVIA Centaur CP software version in the Load Script field is not the same asthe CD that you are installing, then select Load Script, and highlight the correctversion.

15. Select Download.

16. On the User Interrupt message window (“Please set the system to bootstrap mode!”),select OK.

17. Follow the steps below depending on what your system displays:

If… Then…

a Uniload Error message window displays(for example, “Script:D2020FO1_01.CND,Error in Line 30, Read Byte: No characterreceived”),

1. On the Uniload Error messagewindow, select OK.

2. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP systemoff.

3. Reconnect the RS-232 cable to thefirmware uploading tool.

Ensure that the cable is properlyconnected.

4. Connect the firmware uploading toolto the ADVIA Centaur CP system.

Ensure that the firmware uploadingtool is properly connected. Wait atleast 1 minute.

5. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP systemon.

6. On the Uniload Version 2.0.6message window, select Download.

a Uniload Version 2.0.6 message windowdisplays,

proceed to the next step.

The Loading Process window displays. The process may take from 10−45 minutes.

If an error message displays, close the error window, turn off the instrument, turn onthe instrument, and then select the Download button again.

18. On the User Interrupt message window (“Download finished”), select OK.

19. On the Uniload Version 2.0.6 window, select Exit.

20. On the message window (“Download successfully finished?”), select Yes to thiswindow only.

CAUTIONDo not select OK on the small message window at this time. Doing so may interrupt thecopying process.

21. Perform the following procedure:

a. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP system off.

b. Disconnect the RS-232 firmware uploading tool from theADVIA Centaur CP system.

c. Disconnect the RS-232 cable from the firmware uploading tool.

d. Connect the RS232 cable to the ADVIA Centaur CP system.

e. Wait at least 20 seconds.

f. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP system on.

g. Wait at least 20 seconds.

h. On the message window, select OK.

Parameters will scroll in the Communication & Report Control area.

22. On the message window (“Default parameters successfully written from…”), selectOK.

23. Close the Centaur CP Parameter Script window.

24. Close the ADVIA Centaur CP Tools window.

Entering the Pressure Sensor Calibration ValuesEnter the pressure sensor calibration values for the sample probe.

1. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP system power off.

2. Open the top cover.

3. Record the digital 1 and digital 2 values from the label on the sample probe PCB.

4. Turn the system on.

5. On the desktop, double-click ADVIA Centaur CP Tools.

6. Double-click gService.

7. Enter your service-level user name and password.

8. In the Available Drivers area, double-click Sample and Reagent Probes.

9. On the Sample and Reagent probes Main Driver window, select Sample ProbePressure Sensor Calibration.

10. On the Sample Probe Pressure Sensor Calibration window, enter the digital 1 anddigital 2 values from the PCB label located on the side of the sample probe mountingassembly.

11. Select Save.

12. Select Yes.

13. Close the Sample Probe Pressure Sensor Calibration window.

14. Close the Sample and Reagent Probes Main Driver window.

15. On the ADVIA Centaur CP Service Software window, select Terminate Program.

16. Close the ADVIA Centaur CP Tools folder.

17. Turn the ADVIA Centaur CP system power off.

18. Turn the system power on.

Providing the Assay Chart to the Customer1. Download the customer bulletin Assay Chart (part number 086D0029-xx) from either

eBRITE or LabNews.

2. Provide the customer the PDF file of the document, as well as a printed copy.
