Polishing and lapping machines joke ELTable-top machines
Polishing and lapping machines joke ELOur Series EL polishing and lapping machines have been a byword for quality and reliability in professional use for many years.
Both bench-top units EL 300 and EL 380 were developed especially for machining small workpieces and individual parts in small se-ries production. For example, these units have been successfully used in laboratories and research institutions for many years. The EL 300 machines can be fitted with an application arm or a pendulum arm. A pneumatic applica-tion fixture and a bottom cabinet are available as accessories for the EL 380 machine.
The large production machines EL 600 and EL 700 were designed for series production. These machines already offer stepless speed control as standard. In addition for example, pneumatic application fixtures and other components allow you to make adjustments to exactly suit the individual application.

Workpiece holder made of hard paper for reliably guiding the workpieces.
Soft, adaptable rubber material for compensating any thickness tolerances in the workpieces.
These disks are glued to aluminium poli-shing cloth carrier disks. Their non-stick coating allows the user to easily re-place self-adhesive polishing cloths.
Dressing ringsDressing rings mainly fulfil three functions:• Holding workpieces being machined• Supporting lapping medium distribution• Keeping the lapping disk level via appropriate positioning
Polishing operations are normal-ly performed on polishing cloths. To achieve this, these special carrier disks are used instead of the standard lapping disks.

Polishing and lappingBasics
High gloss with exact accuracy of form
Polishing and lapping is used when there are very exacting demands placed on surfaces with regard to peak-to-valley height and flatness, with a high gloss finish being required at the same time. These results are achieved in a single work cycle with polishing and lapping. Most pre-liminary and subsequent work steps are no longer required, and the entire working process becomes noticeably more rational. The results can be examined immediately thanks to the re-flective surface.
Our polishing and lapping system consists of three components:
• Polishing and lapping disk• Dosing and spray unit • Bio-diamond emulsions LAM PLAN® NEOLAP®
The polishing and lapping system can be used successfully on almost all materials. This invol-ves using the polishing and lapping disks in conjunction with the Bio-diamond emulsions LAM PLAN® NEOLAP®. The dosing and spray unit carries the lapping medium at precisely defined intervals to the lapping disk in the correct consistency and in the optimum quantity. This opti-mum dosing reduces consumption costs to a minimum. Worn polishing and lapping disks can be re-lined by us at any time.
The diamond suspension can also be custom adapted on request. Simply tell us your special needs and we will make the right product for you at short notice and for a reasonable price.
So that we can give you the best possible advice right from the outset, we will carry out sample work for you at our application centre. We will then put together the optimum solution for you and your particular application.

Polishing and lapping disksLAM PLAN® M.M.® Bi-Composite
Polishing and lapping disks LAM PLAN® M.M.® Bi-CompositeThe new LAM PLAN® M.M.® Bi-Composite polishing and lapping disc consist of two different materials in a resin bond. Water-soluble and oil-soluble diamond fluids are used as lapping media. The diamond grit is subjected to a constant change in speed by the polishing and lapping disk segments of different hardness. This results in high stock remo-val and a polished surfaced – in only one single processing stage! In plain language this means: you process your workpieces using these polishing and lapping disks taking markedly less time and in fewer processing stages. This is not the only advantage. The flatness of the lapping and polishing disk is also distinctly improved thanks to the dual-component technology and is guaranteed for considerably longer.
All disks can also be re-lined at our works.

Ceramic dressing ringswith SPYLAP® control systemThe patented SPYLAP® control system allows highly simple control over the temperature of the lapping disk (and the resulting flatness) during dressing.
Each ceramic dressing ring is equipped with SPYLAP® elements which change in colour from black to red in response to temperature increase during processing. Changes can the-refore be detected at an early stage and the process parameters such as press, diamond fluid, etc. can be adapted in order to reduce the temperature again, thereby ensuring preservation of lapping disk flatness.

Bio-diamond emulsionsLAM PLAN® NEOLAP®
Bio-diamond emulsionsLAM PLAN® NEOLAP®Couldn’t be “greener” and couldn’t be better either. The brand new NEOLAP® series from LAM PLAN® is the new reference when it comes to performance, efficiency and user-friendliness. The products are biodegradable and VOC-free and can therefore be used wit-hout harm to humans and/or the environment.
The emulsions achieve first-rate results on almost any material. They can also be used under conditions with very high contact pressure without any risk of running and the lubricant film tearing.
The products are available in oil-soluble (series 100) and water-soluble (series 300) versions. The likewise water-soluble series 400 contains polycrystalline diamonds. These have a greater specific surface owing to their structure (multiple cutting) and provide high stock removal rates. This allows shorter processing times with simultaneous freedom from scratches!
Very high stock removal performance for first-rate results

LappingBasics
Systematic
Lapping is a metalworking process for improving the dimensions, shape and roughness of spher- ical or flat workpiece surfaces.
Loose grit is used for lapping. Here, the lapping process itself involves metalworking with loose grit, which is distributed in a liquid or compound. This involves pressing the individual grit tips into the surface. The material is carried off in all directions, which produces the matt surfaces that are typical of lapping.
The lapping process primarily enables two requirements to be fulfilled on the workpiece:
• High to very high surface qualities• Extremely high accuracies of form
Optimum adaptation of the three basic components is a prerequisite for achieving these require- ments:
• The workpiece being worked• Abrasive in the carrier liquid• Lapping disk as the shaping element

Lapping mediumBIOLAM® „ready to use“
Lapping medium BIOLAM® „ready to use“This ready-to-use lapping fluid is very easy to handle, provides an extremely stable lubricating film and does not contain any hazardous substances whatsoever owing to its bio formulation.
Owing to its composition and very low deposition of the lapping medium in the fluid, it only needs to be stirred once a day for approx. 5 min.
Depending on the application, the lapping medium can be used undiluted or diluted twice. The medium is water-soluble and therefore easy to clean.
Available in two versions:
• These lapping media are also available in 20-litre containers
• Other grit sizes and versions (boron carbide and cerium oxide) on request

Interference testing units LAM PLAN® 18 W • joke 35 W
Interference testing unitsReflective surfaces are required for mea-suring the surface quality obtained. Lapped, matt surfaces are therefore polished on the polishing table in order to carry out the test.
The flatness can be reliably tested using optical plane face glasses. Our plane face glasses are made of glass ceramics. This material maintains its flatness even when temperatures fluctuate greatly, and it is very scratch-resistant.
Plane face glasses are used in conjunction with an interference testing unit. The mono-chromatic light produced by a sodium vapour lamp has a wavelength of exactly 0.0006 mm (0.6 µm). Since only half the wavelength is used for the measurement, the measuring accuracy is 0.3 μm.
