South State street has been the «ceno of operations, but tho track was not what IL ought to have been. Jt has been rough and full of holes, tho horses' hoofs going through to tho pavement, making It hard, traveling. Few brush*» have been seen.
Among those who have been, out are Dr. Peckham with a young pacer, Will-lam Peckham with Sir Arthur. W. T. Klink, with a chestnut pacer, Deforest Set-tlo \vlth his brown gelding FMtz. E. I. White with Prince Tosku. Thonias L<»n.my with Genildlne. S. K. Hrez.'e with lx>rd Alcone, James. O'Donnell with RJauo and others.
A well known horseman said yesterday that he thought It probable that the speeding the rest of the season would be on the South State street course Instead of on tho Boulevard. The reason assigned was that It was a better track, being free from the bumpers and roughness of the Boulevard. It will bo better for the city people who like to wee racing ami also for the horses on account, of the evenness of the track.
General J o h n s o n Sold. A note of Interest to the local horse
men was the sale yesterday of General Johnson. 2.12U, belonging to the estate or the late John Dunfee, to Pittsburg par-
! ties. While the exact price Is not stated it was salds to lie well along toward tho Jl.ooo mark. Oonoral Johnson Is1 a, black gelding by L»ypno pel—M«»s Mack by Fair-town. He Is an easy galted horse and makes an Ideal roadster for one who does not euro to tako the duyt of tho average traveler.
The race to-morrow between Antlo Wilkes'and T*ady MeOrecor. which Is to be pulled off on Cortland avenue 1K?-tween Dorwin Springs and the Fellows Hotel. Is attracting attention. The conditions call for a race, rain or Khluc, snow or bare ground, half mile he-Us, best two In thr<"\ The original bet was .*5il a side.
Now believing that Mrs. Beasle Korater Bouton was tho victim of tho murder on Mount Cutler, noar Colorado Springs, Col., last December, her relatives in thl« c i t y purpose to hava tho remains exhumed and brought to Syracuse to beMn-terred in the family plot. This has been tho Intention of Mr. and Mrs. Charles I*. Kcmter of No. 40« Avery avenu© ever slnco their daughter was believed to have been murdered, but action was delayed In the hope that af teral l it might prove to bo another unfortunate girl.
Now that her identity hns bean established, circumstantially at least, the heartbroken family has decided not to let \ the body lay In tho gravo at Evergreen Cemetery, near Washington Park, whero it was placed ten dnyn after it was discovered.. Decomber 18. Immediate steps will be taken to bring tho body hero and glvo it a fitting Interment.
.Last night Mrs. Komter said that she could not bear to havo her daughter burled so far away, and in a rough j lnc coDln. She shows tho strain of constant grief and for more than a week has been on tho verge of collapse, so ill that she was compelled to take to her bed.
One a n d S a m e Person . In discussing the likelihood of Milton
Franklin, the paramour .of Bessie YJouton In the West, nnd Milton F. Andrews cf Hartford, Conn., being Identical, Rose, i a sister of Mrs. Bouton, said »hat she firmly believed them to be ono *\nd tho same. It was tho family's imprMslon that "Franklin's" home was in Hartford, which, coupled with the mark on jils shirts, now In the possession of ».he Kcmter family, being tlie Initials "M. F. A.." fully convlnco them that they are Identical.
Tho Kcmters only knew him by the name of Franklin, but last night *he sister vouched that at ono tlmo Besslo said he was known under another name. Sl-o could not positively remember if it was Andrews, but was Inclined to believe so.
The threo letters which were v n t to Bessie In oare of tho general" delivery nt Wllkesbarre last October were delivered, but to whom is not known. A thorough search was made by tho postal autlvri- \ ties in the dead letter office at Washing- : ton. but no trace of them could bo found, < according to advices received by Mrs. Kcmter.
Mrs. Komter carries a life Insurance policy on Mrs. Bouton for $250 with a

POST-STANDARD. SPECIAL TO Tnn HARTFORD, Jan. 24.^-Chle* of Police
Qunn nnnounced to-night that he ha« letters written by Milton Franklin Andrews which prove beyond a doubt that ho Is "Milton Franklin," who was with Mrs. BCJJSIO Bouton In Denver. Ho refuses to say what the letters are, but it is thought that he secured them from Milton Andrews' wife, who came hero ten days ago, when Alvln Androws. Milton's brother, disappeared. She is now with Mrs. Alvln Androws.
Tho Denver and local police have also been corresponding by wire, and It is found that Androws' description fits that of Franklin, even to a scar on his face. Chief Delaney of Denver wired to-day: "Andrews Is undoubtedly the one wo want.,"
