SynchronizerOctober 2017 - Quarterly Edition 3

As quarterly as a year can be, the Synchronizer never struggles to fill its nascent pages with enticing information. This is largely thanks due to the diverse expansion that the company has evolved into. Mister or Miss World can take a seat at this point of time.

On the African continent, we are ablaze with projects from earthing and lightning installations in Zimbabwe, load flow studies and supply and manufacture of MV panels in the DRC, protection relay tests and earthing tests for the supply and installation of MV outdoor equipment in Ghana, to retrofitting and supplying generators to upgrade power supply in Mozambique. In Asia, Kyrgyzstan, we continue with maintenance and LV equipment retrofits, protection relay in Mozambique. In Asia, Kyrgyzstan, we continue with maintenance and LV equipment retrofits, protection relay configuration and retrofits and transformer tests.

Closer to home, the Sub-Saharan African environment is proving to be a bustling centre for PPE. In Cape Town, business development have been largely involved with the Marine industry, specifically Automation projects with Marine Alarm Monitoring Systems (MAMS) for Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV’s). In Middleburg, the sales presence is beginning to boom with projects stemming from project houses, oil & gas, system integrators and coal mines.

Nationally, sales are beginning to stabilise and have grown by 30% since April this year. This is according to Willie Nationally, sales are beginning to stabilise and have grown by 30% since April this year. This is according to Willie Basson (Mpumalanga Sales Manager), who believes that service leadership principles in the sales approach has built up acending levels of trust with our valued customers. Putting the customer’s needs over and beyond our own needs is the winning formula.

We have been present all over the globe for events as well as projects. From the Mpumalanga Show at the Mbombela Stadium, the Africa Down Under Conference in Perth Australia, the Manufacturing Indaba in sunny Durban, the Botswana Electra Mining Show, the Agri Megaweek in Bredasdorp Western Cape and the local ABB roadshow held in Botswana Electra Mining Show, the Agri Megaweek in Bredasdorp Western Cape and the local ABB roadshow held in the Lowveld at the doorsteps of some of our valued customers.

We do feel proud to be expanding our business during these tough economic times, and would like to thank everyone involved for proving that business in the region is recovering.

The PPE team at the Mpumalanga Show in August. Our exhibition stand included operational demonstrations of solar containers, pumps, remote controlled pumping solutions (as long as you have data coverage!) and mobile power

distribution and supply solutions. The show was well enjoyed and we were joined by Roger Powell from RJConnect as well as Hannes van Niekerk, the director of Super Armature Winding Africa (SAW Africa).

Mpumalanga Show 2017

PPE ABB Customer Roadshow 2017

The roadshow began as an initiative from ABB and PPE Instrumentation departments respectively. It grew to incorporate ABB and PPE Divisions from Automation, VSD’s, Motors, Renewables, Gearboxes and Medium Voltage

Products and solutions.

The Roadshow took place at three locations targeting key customers, SAPPI Ngodwana, PPE Nelspruit Head Offices and RCL Foods in Malelane. The objective of the roadshow was to explain the Channel Partnership with ABB and

Variable Speed Drive Service Centre in Gauteng

Africa Down Under

The PPE Gauteng Branch has been beefed up with new service and test equipment for Variable Speed Drives (VSD’s). VSD’s that are in storage for over a year require reforming of capacitor banks, and require firmware upgrades as new software is developed and released. The test equipment was manufactured and commissioned by our Automation department and workshop facility. This equipment already exists in our Mpumalanga VSD service facility, and we have supplied this equipment to customers who have large install bases of VSD’s at their facilities.

Reports and parameters can be wirelessly printed, and any 380-690V VSD can be tested and serviced. Our Gauteng Reports and parameters can be wirelessly printed, and any 380-690V VSD can be tested and serviced. Our Gauteng branch is a dedicated sales and service centre who can assist you effortlessly and timeously to get you what you require. They can be reached on +27 (0)12 940 3971. Business Development Manager Jarrod McAllister (top left) attended representing PPE at this exhibition and extended the trip into the following week visiting various Australian Mining Houses and EPC/M’s to discuss product and services support into existing and prospective projects.

The intention of the trip was to spend the time exploring business opportunities in Perth, in and out of the Africa Down Under Exhibition, by both Mining Companies as well as Project Execution companies/Engineering Houses. After a successful 3 days and positive information from large and small miners.

According to Jarrod, “I believe there is great opportunity in considering entering the market of conduct studies for these According to Jarrod, “I believe there is great opportunity in considering entering the market of conduct studies for these small, emerging miners. If I recall the figures correctly, there are over 1000 exploration projects and studies currently active on the African continent and last year’s spend on exploration studies was around $8 Billion in Africa alone.”

Future visits are in the pipeline, and PPE would like to extend thanks to everyone involved, particularly Tony Kinsella and Strutfast for a successful trip.

Backup power generation for water utility

Wheeler dealing and shottie shenanigans

Cummins and PPE are putting together 18 x 2MV mobile containerized diesel generators for placement at national key sites as an emergency power supply for water pumping and distribution. PPE have vast experience in the manufacturing of containerized solutions for diesel generators for power generation in remote areas. The official MV FLEX 2 has been manufactured to fit into the containers. Only 6 of these can be done at a time, considering the size of our outdoor workspace. And so far so good, watch this space for follow ups on the project.

Congratulations to Steve Bellis (bottom left) and Jarrod McAllister (bottom right) for achieving great results in their respective sporting codes. Steve placed 2nd in the Master Mens Nkomazi Mountain Bike challenge, representing PPE Cycling. 65km across Malelane farmlands in piping heat and humidity is no easy feat.

Jarrod has been selected to represent South Africa in the World Shotgun Shoot in France next year after qualifying at the National Shoot in Cape Town. He scored 91% overall and placed 5th.

We hope to see great results in the future from our sporting colleagues!

Our infinite knowledge of our per-sonal lives outside of work has proven to be finite. No one has had a correct guess as to who our baby faced colleague is on the left. Mind boggling! So we are attempting this one more time.

If you recognise which work If you recognise which work colleague this is - send your answers to Megan Dunn ([email protected]) before ([email protected]) before the end of November to stand a chance to be a winner! Even if you don’t work here at PPE, give it a crack and let us know.

How hard could it be? The black and white obviously threw everyone off.everyone off.

Many parents will be extremely upset to find out that we did not open a child daycare facility. Rather, we decided to utilise our lengthy bit of wall conveniently potruding itself over the R40 to “artistically” convey what it is we do. The aesthetics were decided upon after the Marketing department did a test run a few months ago. Boy did that work out well.

So, as folklore and history has taught us, leave it to the professionals. Peggy Whyte Lewis and her daughter Kelly Lewis travelled here from the USA to do the job. With over 40 years of experience in commercial art, this was the first graffiti mural travelled here from the USA to do the job. With over 40 years of experience in commercial art, this was the first graffiti mural that Peggy has ever done. We look forward to having her back to do the other 200 metres of boundary wall!
