In response to the massive requirement for increased power transmission and distri-bution in Nigeria, two of the world’s leading power engineering companies Symbion Power, based in Washington, DC and Jyoti Americas of Houston, Texas have joined forc-es with Iroko Capital Partners, a Nigerian firm

based in Lagos, to create Western Sahara Transmis-sion Company Limited, an indigenous Nigerian end-to-end electricity transmission company.

These partners bring together their combined ex-perience of doing business in Africa and other de-veloping countries, together with their knowledge of the entire power delivery value chain which will include design, engineering, tower testing, tower manufacturing and construction.

Western Sahara will build a new state of the art transmission tower manufacturing facility in Nigeria that will produce an estimated 50,000 tons of galva-

nized steel lattice transmission tow-ers per year. Serving Nigerian in-dustry and the broader Africa region, this facility will drastically reduce the current reliance on the importation of transmission towers. This partnership will help to facilitate the rapid expansion of the transmission network and associ-ated infrastructure across Nigeria.

Western Sahara Transmission aims to be-come Nigeria’s leading full service Transmis-sion and Distribution solutions company deliv-ering critical power to the Nigerian people and industry. Western Sahara Transmission will cre-ate thousands of jobs for Nigerians who will be trained to US and other international standards in tower design, manufacturing, and construction at a training school that will be established as part of the facility. The Western Sahara Transmission part-ners view this training model as a part of their deep

commitment to empowering local communities by bring-ing together their knowledge and operational know-how

to succeed in a demanding industry. Through the training center, the partners will work closely with local communities

to develop a labor force capable of executing Western Saha-ra Transmission’s projects. This training center will be a critical

element of our operations and will underscore Western Sahara Transmission’s commitment to capacity-building.

The investors in this project have extensive power operations globally. Symbion and Jyoti have successfully constructed

more than 600 transmission lines in over 40 countries including a vast array of Extra High Voltage (EHV) and High Voltage (HV)

lines and substations across the African continent, including 765 kV transmission lines in South Africa. Both companies are also

currently operating in Nigeria.

Jyoti is an industry leader in turnkey power transmission projects with a focus on transmission lines up to 800 kV, substations up to 800 kV, as

well as a wide range of distribution projects. Jyoti undertakes projects on a global scale, offering a complete range of services in design, testing,

manufacturing, sourcing, supply and construction with in-house expertise.

Jyoti has established manufacturing plants in India, the United Arab Emir-ates, and the United States with a combined manufacturing capacity of

200,000 tons per annum of transmission line towers, as well as an in-house tower testing facility in India with SCADA/HMI based systems for testing up

to 1,200 kV for both in-house and third party clients.

Iroko Capital Partners is excited to partner with Symbion and Jyoti to make this investment in Western Sahara Transmission Company a cornerstone investment of the Iroko Capital Power Africa and Infrastructure Fund.”
