    COURSE SYLLABUS

    through email.Message: Im glad you are here. Since you are investing your time and money, I will do

    my best to make the course up-to-date, useful and interesting. You will beexpected to read (and think about) the chapters of the texts but class will notbe a simple re-hash of what you read. Lectures will be used to introduce topics,to highlight key points, and to give you information that cant be given aseffectively any other way.

    Regular and prompt attendance is an essential part of the educationalexperience. All students are expected to attend every scheduled class on time.Exceptions may be made for university or work sponsored activities, illnesses,or valid emergency situations.

    Course Objectives and Overview:The overall objective of the course is to introduce you to the basic theories of HRM andpractices of them in Bangladesh. To this end, we will:

    Understand the strategic role of HR manager and develop the ability todefine and analyze the HR problems dealt with by managers, and

    Understand analytical concepts and techniques currently being used in HRarena.

    Why Study HRM?As an upper-level student, you are preparing yourself for a position of leadership within theorganizations for which you will work. As a leader, you impact the culture and practices ofthe organization. Customers in most industries have a dizzying array of options from whichto choose. To become the customers choice and survive (or prosper), a firm must bemarket-driven reacting to customer needs, positioning against competitive alternatives,and sensitive to environmental factors.Efficient and effective marketing practices are key to an organizations success. HRplanning, competitive intelligence, prosperity of an organization in todays turbulentbusiness environment.

    RULES FOR SITTING IN THE EXAMS:

    1 75% and Above Eligible

    2 60%-74% Non Collegiate, will be allowed to sit for exam with fineof taka 5,000

    3 Below 60% Not allowed and may seek re-admission in the program

    YOUR DUTIES:

    Form a group comprising maximum 3 members and give an attractive Brand name for yourgroup where one will be Social Marketing manager and rest of the students will be SocialMarketing Executives for group assignment purpose. All groups need to submit at least 2reflective articles/ journals on recent social marketing practices in Bangladesh practiced bylocal companies or MNCs. It will not exceed more than 1000 words each.

    All groups need to solve and present 2 cases. Deadlines and topics will be announced in theclass later on. All groups need to submit their Term paper/ Project paper (4,000 words max)where topic will be set by the instructor later in the class.

    Regarding plagiarism and collision the instructor will follow the rules set by instructor.Students are advised to follow either Harvard or APA system of referencing.

    Late entry in the class is strictly prohibited as it hampers the attention of the participants.Marks are deducted in this case. No student can remain absent from the class without priornotification to the instructor. Special cases will be treated by the instructor case by case basis.

    All must maintain the class manners (side talking while in the class, noise by cell phone isprohibited). Disobey of it will attract penalty and instructor has the right to remove thestudent from the class for the greater benefit of the class. DEADLINES for assignment, termpaper will be deadly followed. Lame excuses will not be entertained. Once the exam is over itis over forever. No extra exam will be taken. But in extreme cases exam may be taken but thequestion will be tougher.
