    Assignments & Grading

    Research & Mini-Reports (3 x 10% each = 30%)You will work with a partner* to explore, research andpresent three (3) mini-reports on:(1) Examples of Effective Social Media Use (case studies)(2) How to Use (x) Social Network or Social Tool(3) Metrics and Analysis

    Nuggets of Inspiration or Wisdom (10%)You will be expected to regularly share with the classsomething youve learned about social media practices fromthe required readings, supplemental readings, videos,podcasts, and/or guest speakers. You will share in class

    and also by posting to the class blog.

    Participation, Sharing & Engagement (10%)You will also be expected to engage with, and providefeedback to, classmates about the content of theirmini-reports by participating in class discussions and

    posting comments to the class blog.

    Social Media Plan (40%)

    You will work with a team of four (4) classmates toapply what youve learned. Together, you will produce acomprehensive social media plan for a nonprotorganization selected by the instructor. A panel oflocal social media professionals will evaluate and ratethe plans based on established guidelines.

    Final Exam (10%)On Tuesday, May 15, at 6 p.m. we will convene in UCA

    Room 109 for a nal exam. You will answer questions andotherwise describe what youve learned this semester insocial media practices.

    *To encourage creativity, idea-sharing and networking, you will work witha different partner for each mini-report.

    The Fine Print

    Letter grades for the course will be determined by total points earned in the categories above as a

    percentage of total possible points, using the following scale:

    A 93% - Above A- 90-92% B+ 87-89% B 83-86%

    B- 80-82% C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 70-72%D+ 67-69% D 63-66% D- 60-62% F 59% & Below

    Class Meeting Time & Room AssignmentOur class is scheduled to meet in UCA 109 on Tuesday & Thursday, from 3 - 4:50 p.m. Due to equipment

    limitations in that classroom, we will often meet elsewhere at a variety of locations around campus, includingthe library conference room (2nd oor). Please pay close attention to the class blog to Twitter announcements

    for location changes. These will be announced at least one class period in advance, unless circumstancesprevent such advance notice.

    Screen NamesIf you prefer to blog and/or tweet or otherwise use an anonymous screen name, that is permissible for this

    course. However, you must give the instructor your screen name for purposes of course grading and assessmentand give permission for the instructor to add your Twitter account to a Twitter list that will be used during the

    semester.

    Attendance Attendance is expected and required. More than two unexcused absences will result in a zero (no points)

    for the Participation portion of your grade and a zero for any in-class exercise given that day.

    If you are absent for ofcial university business (such as participation in Samford athletics, debatecompetition, etc.) this will qualify as an excused absence if you provide verication of your participation in

    such an event. Consideration will be given for documented emergencies beyond your controlprimarily medical

    provided these emergencies are documented or veried. Vacations, family trips, early departure/late return from holidays, and work schedules do not qualify as

    excused absences. Punctuality and participation in class discussion are also critical. Three late arrivals to class will count as one

    absence.

    Canceling Classes

    Inclement weather or other events beyond the control of Samford University, such as pandemic illness, mayoccasionally result in changes to normal university operations, including cancellation of classes or events or an

    adjustment to the schedule. It is the students responsibility to check for ofcial university announcements thataddress such issues.

    Students With DisabilitiesSamford University complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans With Disabilities Act.

    Students with disabilities who seek accommodation must make their request by contacting Disability SupportServices (726-4078 or 726-2105). A faculty member will grant reasonable accommodations only upon written

    notication from Disability Support Services.

    Academic Integrity

    As stated in the university catalog and student handbook, students, upon enrollment, enter into voluntaryassociation with Samford University. They must be willing to observe high standards of intellectual integrity: they

    must respect knowledge and practice academic honesty.

    Unless group work is specied, you are expected to do your own work and to refrain from: giving or receivingassistance (unless specically authorized by the assignment guide), cheating, copying, or plagiarizing the workof others. Failure to properly attribute sources is academic dishonesty. Actual or suspected academic integrity

    violations will be handled in accordance with Samford University disciplinary policies and procedures.
