The Basic Survey course is meant to familiarize you with the basics of survey technology in preparation for any one of the MWD, DD or Keeper Schools. Basic Survey Introduction Terminology What is a Survey? Basic Rig Math Wireline Units and Tools Keeper Gyro System Video: Keeper: Gyrocompass Mode Video: Keeper: Low Angle High Speed Mode Video: Keeper: High Angle High Speed Mode Magnetics Magnetic Interference Sensors Telemetry Systems Video: MP & EM Telemetry Surveyor Upon Successful completion of the course, the student will be expected to: Understand the history of the borehole industry and understand why we monitor the well, factors include: avoid colliding with other wells, fatigue or key seats in the wall of the well in which the BHA may hang up. Understand the terminology for calculating a survey, the parameters from which all survey displacements are calculated: Reference Point, Course Length, Inclination and Direction (True or Grid North). Demonstrate the ability to understand the difference between direction and coordinate reference systems as to not result in errors. Recognize the two different types of SDI’s singleshot equipment: R and EYE. Understand how to use a magnetic multishot and demonstrate the ability to run a survey. After completing the (11) Sections and (4) videos, you will be prompted to take a 50 question exam. Once you complete this exam and achieve a grade of 70% or higher, you will be given credit for the course on the date the exam was completed . Scientific Drilling International is committed to honesty and integrity in all of its practices. Activities that violate integrity undermine quality and diminish the value of educational achievement. Employees that are dishonest regarding their course completion are subject to disciplinary action.
