“Adaptive College Student”

The following title is a tad informal, but seeing as I am not yet a professional in any particular thing, I deem it relatively appropriate for myself. As a graduate of City High school, I am a critical thinker and prepared to face almost any challenge. I am artistically inclined and love hands on work. I am also well organized and very well off in communicative skills. I am majoring in Exercise Science with a Health and Fitness emphasis, so I am looking for jobs that will benefit me on my journey on this career path. I’m open to fulfill any task at hand ultimately; I can clean, organize, and assist in practically any way that I can or am assigned to do. My overall work ethic classifies me as a hard worker, for I always get my work done ahead of schedule and try to get everything done efficiently and correctly.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Teen Volunteer, John Ball Zoo1439 Butterworth SW, Grand Rapids MI, 49504

I was a teen volunteer for four summers (starting the summer of 2010 and ending the summer of 2013), working one day a week from the months of June through August, and several weekend days of those months as well. I worked many different posts, from simple cleaning of animal cages and pens, to acting as an educator to visitors. As a teen volunteer I was able to work one on one with Zoo staff, and gain their knowledge and trust.

Accomplishments

● Completed Animal Handling Training and educated the public with live animals all four summers

● Gained recognition for hard work over the four summers of volunteering by the John Ball Zoo Society

● Developed a well understood and improved set of communicative skills through countless hours of conversing with zoo visitors, zoo staff, and children in the zoo’s educational programs

Advertisement Design / Employee, Wing Doozy3916 Plainfield Avenue NE, Grand Rapids MI, 49525

Wing Doozy is a relatively new restaurant to the city of Grand Rapids (almost 2 years old now). I have been a primary source of advertisement design for a while, such example include painting on their windows, writing on their specials board, and having helped design their logo. On another note, they also have some of my art in their restaurant for show and they support me as somewhat of an independent artist.

As an employee, at Wing Doozy I have come to have experience of multiple positions. Not only have I been cashier and help clean, but I also prepared food, made food, and took take-out order calls. I’ve learned to be able to do almost every little job as an employee at Wing Doozy, and having to interact with customers all the time, my customer service skills are also a good quality.

Accomplishments

● Gained recognition by the public through the display of my art by this restaurant

● Designed my first commercial logo for a business● Learned how to take on multiple positions in one job

Exercise Science Research SubjectGrand Valley State University, Fieldhouse 132 (Human performance Lab)

Although it may not be one of the biggest things I have done, I feel it is definitely worth mentioning. I was a bicep subject for an Electromyography study (October 1, 2014), under Dr. Stephen Glass of the Exercise Science Department. The brief experience gave me a small taste of the Exercise Science program and what I am going to pursue, as well as taught me a few of the procedural processes for such a study. I think it is fair to note Dr. Glass was impressed by my participation as a freshman in his studies, and I plan to work with him again.

*Note: I have done several other Exercise Science research studies, one for assessing Athletic identity and somatotype of subjects such as myself, that was conducted by Exercise Science students. The other study was organized by Dr. Jeffrey Lemmer, who was investigating the effects of eating a breakfast before or after a workout to see how carbs, fats, and oxygen were utilized.

Accomplishments Networked in the Exercise Science Department Have a brief understanding of Exercise Science research work

and careers (education still in progress)

I have been part of Grand Rapids Rowing Association since June 2014. I started off as a rower through their Learn to Row program, and during my several weeks of rowing, I tried coxswaining and loved it. Since then, once a week I go to the boathouse and I coxswain for rec rowers.Having this position has helped me a lot more than I thought it would. As a coxswain you have to be assertive and be able to communicate with an

array of people, and it has definitely improved my skills in those areas immensely. I’m no longer afraid to correct people if they need correcting, and it has given me insight on being a teacher rather than a learner. I too had to learn a lot of new terminology for the job, but I picked it up rather quickly.
