    Fuel Additive Effects on a Peugeot DV4 Engine Power Curve

    Test Program Outline

    Three full-throttle engine maps on a 1.4 L Peugeot DV4TD in-line 4-cylinder diesel

    engine were performed in accordance with SAE J1995 Engine Power Test Code SparkIgnition and Compression Ignition Gross Power Rating.

    Test Setup

    A 1.4 L Peugeot DV4TD in-line 4-cylinder, direct injection, turbocharged, diesel engine

    was installed on the test bed. The exhaust gas recycling system was not be used for this

    program. Engine ratings are as follows:Maximum power output 40kW @ 4000 rpm

    Maximum torque output 150 Nm @ 1750 rpm

    The engine previously underwent a break-in cycle. The engine fuel lines were modifiedto allow monitoring of the fuel line pressure between the fuel filter and the engine driven

    fuel supply pump.

    SUMMARY OF WORK

    Each engine map was conducted according to Table 2. After the engine reached stable

    operating conditions, it was stepped up from 1000 rpm to 4500 rpm and then back downto 1000 rpm. Throughout the mapping process coolant temperature and fuel temperature

    was controlled to 100C and 40C respectively. All engine maps were performed inaccordance with SAE J1995 Engine Power Test Code Spark Ignition and CompressionIgnition Gross Power Rating. In addition, the fuel line pressure between the fuel filter

    and the engine driven fuel supply pump was recorded. Operational data was be

    electronically recorded via SwRIs in-house data acquisition system.
