SWOT Analysis
Strengths:
I. Renowned as the worlds premier leader development institution.
II. West Point as the Best Public College or University in America for undergraduate education.
III. West Point accomplishes its mission by developing cadets intellectually, physically, militarily,
ethically, spiritually, and socially.
IV. The Academic Program consists of 26 core courses which establish the foundation for
elective courses that permit cadets to explore in greater depth more than 40 majors. All
cadets receive a Bachelor of Science degree, and are fully prepared to meet the intellectual
requirements of a leader in today's Army.
V. The Physical Program at West Point includes both physical education classes and
competitive athletics. Every cadet participates in an intercollegiate, club or intramural level
sport each semester. This rigorous physical program contributes to mental and physical
fitness.
VI. More than 100 extracurricular activities are available, including hobby, sports and religious
clubs.

VII. TheMilitary Program begins on your first day atWest Point.
VIII. Ethical, Spiritual, and Social development occurs formally and informally throughout your 47
months as a cadet. These include formal instruction in the important values of the military
profession, voluntary religious programs, interaction with staff and faculty role models, and
a vigorous guest speaker program. Cadets also develop ethically by adhering to the Cadet
Honour Code, which states "A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do."
IX. Admission is open to all young men and women, and is extremely competitive. You will be
evaluated on your academic, physical and leadership potential. Those candidates who are
fully qualified receive appointments to the Academy.
X. Four current graduates and two former faculty members of the United States Military
Academy are members of the 111th Congress.
XI. It combines academic, public policy, and military expertise to create a dynamic,
intellectual, and practical research approach to terrorism, counterterrorism,
weapons of mass destruction, and homeland security issues.
XII. In recognition of the immediate need for providing cadets with a superior
education in terrorism and counterterrorism studies, USMA established the
Combating Terrorism Centre (CTC) at West Point within the Department of Social
Sciences.
XIII. Strong Customer Relationships.
Weaknesses
I. Promotion: People did not know their product and acceptance of it could mean
death in battle.
II. Sound tough.
III. Providing very low salary.

IV. Lack of video clips, Pictures, and other information whatever those potential
applicants find.
V. No fund for media such as radio and television.
VI. West Point uses same font, size and colour for so many years.
Opportunities
I. The student body, or Corps of Cadets, numbers 4,400 and each year approximately 1000
cadets join the Long Gray Line as they graduate and are commissioned as a second
lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
II. U.S. News and World Report calling us the Best Public Liberal Arts College in the country.
III. Cadets spend their third and fourth summers serving in active Army units around the world;
attending advanced training courses such as airborne, air assault or northern warfare; or
training the first and second year cadets as members of the leadership cadre.
IV. Mentoring programs that provide members with support, and assist in career
progression and retention.
V. Providing female graduates a voice, through the society, in alumni affairs.
Threats
I. Lack of Sponsors withMoney to Cost-Share.
II. Competition from the other Military academy.
III. Threats of Terrorism: How Grave is the Danger?
IV. Now, in Iraq and Afghanistan, they're faced with Guerilla fighters, and they need
new skills.

V. Cyber threats escalating worldwide.
VI. The art of war and the science of war are not coequal.
VII. Uncertainty arising from unknowns or a lack of information.
VIII. Ambiguity, the blurring or fog that makes distinguishing between fact and
impression about the situation and the enemy difficult.
IX. Friction, resulting from change, operational hazards, fatigue, and fears brought
on by danger.
