Horoscope..........73ARIES MAR 20 - APR 20This New Moon, your ruler, Mars, is in Cancer in its fall. To further complicate matters, it is opposing Pluto in Capricorn! This is NOT a good time to buck the system. Rules and reg-ulations should be honored or repercussions will ensue. At Full Moon, your ruler forms a Grand Cross with Pluto and the Lights! Apply yourself to do your personal best at even the most menial tasks. Some measure of accom-plishment always honors your psyche. The good news is that Mars is trine to both Venus and Mercury in Pisces. Love and friendship prove to be magnificent escapes! Laughter is good medicine!

TAURUS APR 20 - MAY 21This New Moon, your ruler, Venus, is conjunct both Neptune and Mercury in Aquarius. You will find your faith and altruistic aims mir-rored by those around you - and even in the media! Exercise caution in your contribution to causes that seem too righteous, however, as Neptune in the mix can also deceive. At Full Moon, Venus has moved into Pisces and is still accompanied by Mercury! Overwhelming compassion for the underdog can spring from your very soul at this time. Cancerian Mars trines this conjunction illuminating your sincer-ity to all! Your creativity knows no bounds! Enjoy fun and family!

GEMINI MAY 21 - JUN 21Your ruler, Mercury, is part of a magnificent stellium of planetary forces in Aquarius this New Moon! The “think tank” possibilities are out of control. This is an excellent time to join with kindred souls and exchange ideas and promote goals. Those with progressive ideas and breadth of vision will naturally be drawn to you in this cycle. At Full Moon, your ruler has moved on into Pisces and is kissing Venus and trine Mars in the Lunation chart! Romance and passion should be doing a delightful dance in your life! Your ruler is technically opposing retrograde Saturn in Virgo. Flex with those in authority! It pays off!

CANCER JUN 21 - JUL 22This New Moon, your ruler, the Moon, is kissing the Sun and Uranus in Pisces! Waves of inspiration will take form for you as this stellium sextiles Jupiter in Capricorn. Creativ-ity abounds in this cycle as does kindness! At Full Moon, the Moon is in the sign of Libra opposing the early Aries Sun. You will want to fight for peace as your ruler is wrapped in a Grand Cross with the Sun, Mars and Jupiter! Mars, the planet of war, is in your sign and in

its fall. You may feel more comfortable fight-ing for security than acquisition in this cycle. Stand your ground. Your allies seem far away. Meditate on your options before you take action.

LEO JUL 22 - AUG 23Your ruler, the Sun is lined up high in the Heavens kissing the New Moon and Uranus in Pisces! This is an excellent time to pres-ent your sense of humor and deep sense of compassion to the public! Whether you are on stage, or toasting a couple just wed, this can be a wonderfully expressive cycle for you! Just beware the soap box!!! At Full Moon, your ruler has moved into Aries, the sign of the pioneer and the warrior. Choose your missions and your battles with care as the Sun squares Pluto in Capricorn, EXACTLY! Established forces may attempt to keep you at bay. This Grand Cross forms your playing field! Gear up!

VIRGO AUG 23 - SEP 23This New Moon, your absolute brilliance is highlighted! Your ruler, Mercury, is lined up in the Heavens with Chiron, Neptune, Venus and the Head of the Dragon - all in Aquarius! Ura-nus, the ruler of this sign, is a higher octave of Mercury helping you to navigate greater freedom and innovation in your world. Saturn is retrograde in your sign all month, allowing you to re-organize and perfect your vision for the future. At Full Moon, your ruler has moved on into Pisces and is kissing Venus! Take the opportunity to vacation and revel in love and passion! Imagination and humor are also in the mix!

LIBRA SEP 23 - OCT 23Your ruler, Venus, is so happy surrounded by all those planets in Air! The social energy for you, dear Libra, this New Moon, is astounding! Communicating with others on higher levels of consciousness is seen. Group excursions are just fabulous! At Full Moon, your ruler has moved into Pisces and is kissing Mercury and both are in trine to Mars! Love and romance abounds and much teasing and sharing is evident. This Full Moon is in your sign but part of a Grand Cardinal Cross. Stand your ground on all negotiations, but do not expect to make much progress. Acceptance of that you can-not change serves you.

SCORPIO OCT 23 - NOV 22Your rulers, Mars and Pluto, oppose each other in both Lunation charts! Expect to feel as if you are playing ping-pong with yourself!

Mars in Cancer sextiles Saturn retrograde in Virgo all month; Pluto in Capricorn trines it as well! There is much to gain if you flex to the tune of changing priorities. Standards need to be adhered to; but methodologies can change. At Full Moon, Mars forms a beautiful trine to Mercury and Venus in Pisces. Close friends become closer and romance can take a quantum leap! Be sure to keep all confi-dences as others will choose to disclose their secrets to you. Silence is golden!

SAGITTARIUS NOV 22 - DEC 21This New Moon, your ruler, Jupiter is in Cap-ricorn and in sextile to the Lights and Uranus in Pisces! The imagination and brilliance of others will help you to succeed and reach your goals with much celebration. Jupiter in Capricorn is traditionally productive rather than expansive in its energy. Attendance at weddings and baptisms may be requested at this time. Others may also ask you for your blessing or recommendation. At Full Moon, your ruler is still in sextile to Uranus in Pisces. Many cutting edge inventions and concep-tions birth themselves at this time. Beware of thieves! The best launch should be a surprise!

CAPRICORN DEC 21 - JAN 20Your ruler, Saturn, is retrograde in Virgo all month! This New Moon reveals Saturn in trine to Pluto in your sign and sextile to Mars in Cancer! Planetary influences would indicate that you will need to withhold judgment or final decisions until you are certain that you have ALL the information. At Full Moon, your ruler opposes Mercury in Pisces. You will be drawn to those who are kind whether they are near or far. Meditation and spending a little time alone is a fabulous idea just now. A little extra house cleaning and methodical reorga-nization is also in order. Get into the zen of the ordinary!

AQUARIUS JAN 20 - FEB 19This New Moon, your ruler, Uranus, is in Pisces accompanied by the Lights! Others will see you coming a mile away! Chiron, Mercury, Neptune and Venus are still in your sign in this Lunation chart. Haunting spiritual questions arise even in the most casual of conversa-tions. This is an excellent time to share phi-losophy and insight. At Full Moon, your ruler is in sextile to Jupiter in Capricorn. Creating something amazing in private and presenting it in public is seen. Research, whether it is part of your profession or for your own private interests can reap great rewards in this cycle! Don the cap of the expert!

Below is a map of the South Bay. We have highlighted some of the cities to show the percentage increase of median single family home prices from 1993 through 2003, 2003 through 2007, and finally, the total increase from 1993 through the end of 2007. (DON’T FORGET: the 2003 through 2007 percentage increase is a lower number than the 1993 through 2003 increase, but is based on the already-appreciated price, meaning that the actual dollar amount increase is similar in both windows… in all cases, the market was actually BETTER in 2003 through 2007.)

Real Estate is a long term investment. You don’t buy Real Estate looking for a quick return, as fluctuations in the market can be, in the short run, downward. But this is like looking at a yo-yo on an escalator – in the long term, the trend is always up, up, up! If you have plans on living in the area for any extended period of time, the equity you build in your home can be significant. Imagine if you had bought a home in the South Bay 5 years ago! Dressing Your House for Spring..........75

Spring has officially sprung, and what does that mean for your home? It is time to put away that winter wardrobe and get ready

for the beautiful days ahead! Just like you, a house needs different " clothes" for different seasons. You‘re not going to wear a heavy fur coat and wool knee socks when its 75 degrees outside, and you don‘t want your house looking like it‘s dressed for the cold when summer is just around the corner!

The solution? Slip-covering is great! You can go from a winter look to a summer look just by changing fabrics. Cottons and linens in nice light and bright colors help freshen things up and chase away the winter blues. Although you certainly may need a throw to have around for chilly days and nights, it‘s time to put away the heavy velvets and wools that are meant for cold winter months. Bring out fun throw pillows in colorful floral chintzs, bright silks, and fun stripes. And if you like dark colors, thats OK! Just find the color in a light weight fabric and you‘re good to go!

Why not bring some added color into your home with some flowers? Buy some metal pails at the hardware store, spray paint them fun colors, plant them with the flower of your choice, and pop them on a window sill or living room table. Anywhere works! And if you have heavy curtains hanging around---how about taking them down for a nice little break, and replacing them with light weight sheers and bamboo shades? That is a great spring/summer look and can be as casual or formal as you like.

Just as you look forward to putting away your winter coat, remember it‘s nice for your home to have a change as well, and all of these little tips will help you get your house "dressed" for the up coming warmer months ahead!

On a beautiful Sunday I stepped onto the Déjà Vu, a 35 foot sailing boat docked in the San Pedro

Harbor. I boarded with my friend Rochelle and joined a race crew I was new to. The sky was clear and the weather was perfect. Not much wind for sailing, they kept saying… I was just excited to be out on the water. We pushed off, and on our way through the harbor I soon became acquainted with all on board. Tom, the owner and captain of the boat, started cracking jokes almost immediately, to see what kind of crew he had for this regatta. After all, trust and bonding are essential in sailboat racing, and laughter is the key. There is no "I" in team, and as they say "crew is crew", the importance of which I would soon find out...

Story and Photos by Kristin Hatfield

Page 14: Swoop Magazine Mar-Apr 2008

On our way through the harbor we crossed over the wake of a cruise liner. I realized how light the boat was; I could feel it bounce. I asked the Tom how much the boat weighed, and found out it was only 6000 pounds. A light boat has its advantages on days without much wind, but on big gust days you’ve got to hold your line for dear life!

We motored down to Long Beach and started some practice moves before checking in with the Seal Beach Yacht Club race committee. Mike, who I learned was a pro sailor, kept saying, “Watch here is another puff.” As I glanced over the water I could see the puff was the wind gusting for a moment or two and you could see the wind caps on the water. The electronics onboard measure wind angle, speed, direction, boat speed and many other indicators essential to choosing the appropriate sails and the best course to go fast. We did not see the wind dip below 22 knots and saw gusts up to 28-30 knots. To give some perspective, most racing in Southern California is done in 5-15 knot wind.

I heard the gunshot signaling the beginning of the race and we were off. I was to stay in the back with Captain Tom, which was fine with me. I wanted to be a fly on the wall and observe everyone on board. This was a seasoned crew. Everyone knew their role on the boat and held their job well. Two people, Rochelle and Dave, on the bow were hoisting the sails, running the pole and popping the kites. Jan was in the pit running the lines, a tough job that you need to be on your toes for. You need to be strong and be able to pull the lines in fast. Steve and Mike-the-Fireman were trimming the sails and Mike Taylor was handling the main sail and calling the tactics on the deck. Mike Taylor was someone who I learned a lot from throughout the day .

On our first tack I could feel the boat really get up on its side. We were about two people short weight-wise. We needed the extra weight to lay the boat flat for a solid line. I knew at that moment we were going

"A light boat has its advantages on days without much wind, but on big wind days you’ve got to hold your line for dear life! "

to be keeling all day. I like the high side. Being up there looking down the deck at the water was pure adrenaline.

It was about the fourth mark rounding. You see, in a sailing race you need to make it around these markers which are numbered and sequenced according to the race course given just prior to starting the race. The crew kept watch for other teams that were around the Déjà Vu; important if you want to place. Well, back to the fourth mark to tack ...we prepared to jibe: this is when we are going to change direction to round a mark. All was going well until we jibed on a sharp line and there was a huge gust of wind. The rest I don’t quite recall, it happened so fast. I was going from one side, the low side of the boat to the other, the high side with nothing to hold onto…. Next thing I knew I was tossed across the boat and being held by the lifelines on the low side of the boat. To be more precise, the side was underwater as the rail was buried, the boom was in the water and everyone was hanging on.

I remember watching as Rochelle maneuvered the pole on the bow. Unfortunately, it wasn‘t set as the wind gusted, and slammed the Déjà Vu and her crew onto its side. The pole that attaches to the spinnaker launched her as she went head first into the water. I saw her pop up as I lay wrapped in the lifelines in the 57 degree water. I could see that her legs were tangled around the loose lines and she dove back down to untangle herself. Then she resurfaced. The boat was on it‘s side, still catching wind moving toward the mark. I had my eyes on Rochelle as she began to swim towards me. I told her “I got you, I got you.” I wrapped my right leg around the metal pole that stations the lifelines.

I knew if I was not anchored to the boat she would sweep me out as I grabbed her. I held onto her with all I had. Steve and Mike grabbed the two of us while everyone worked in a surprisingly calm manner to gain control of the boat. We were pulled into the boat. Tired and wet we were. Mike was there to pull us all the way back into the deck of the boat.

Rochelle and I sat in the deck of the boat still holding onto one another, catching our breath and looking at each other in shock. Then she cracked a smile, we were happy. We did what being part of a team demands - we got back to our positions in our soaking wet foul weather gear. We are now friends for life, with an awesome story to tell. Rochelle you make me proud.

Needless to say my camera got wrecked from the water intake.

I managed to save the memory chip to share these pictures with you, our dear SWOOP readers.

We finished the race, cold, tired, exhausted and done. The crew of the Déjà Vu took fourth that day.

I drank many Captain Morgan’s and diet cokes to wash the bruises away. Captain Tom, I’ll sail with you again. Thanks for all the excitement.

You never know when that one puff will get ya, do ya Mike!

Most people think of Amsterdam as a massive party city in Europe with legal marijuana and legal prostitution. It definitely

is a beautiful, ‘4:20 friendly’ sanctuary where one can legally purchase and consume marijuana in coffee shops all over the city. In addition, you can legally pay to engage in intercourse with a woman, whom you can personally select from the multiple streets and alleys located in the Red Light District. These streets have rows and rows of windows with women waving & waiting for you to drop some euros for a romp. This is ALL true!

But Amsterdam is so much more than just that! This city has an amazing history. What follows is a simple definition of the Netherlands, and some major moments in the progression of this land. Thank you wikipedia!

Amsterdam is located in Holland, and is the capital of the Netherlands. Holland refers to the central-western area of the country, which includes two of the twelve provinces that make up the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Amsterdam began as a fishing village in the late 12th century, and its name is derived from “Amstel dam” or a dam on

the river Amstel. In the 16th century, Amsterdam was a a hotbed of the European free press, and known as a haven because of its relative religious tolerance.

The early 17th century is considered Amsterdam’s “Golden Age,” when it was one of the wealthiest cities in the world, and had a worldwide trading network. It was during this period that the canal system was d e v e l o p e d through a success fu l city planning effort. There are more than one h u n d r e d k i l o m e t e r s (62+ miles) of canals throughout the city of Amsterdam, including about 190 islands and 1500 bridges. The size and beauty of this canal network has led the city of Amsterdam to be nicknamed the “Venice of the North.”

It is because of this illustrious past that Amsterdam has such international charm & historic allure, which continues to draw people

“Amsterdam is so much more than a place that legally per-mits the blazing of blunts, and seems to encourage an afternoon ‘shag’…”

from around the globe. There are over 170 nationalities represented in the almost one million residents that currently live in the city. The confluence of many cultures creates a potpourri of worldly ideas, and the freedom to express oneself feels good.

The red-lit windows are the heart of a bourgeoning art scene. Gallery Candy is an example of the beacons of culture the Dutch government is striving to promote in this ‘rough around the edges’ part of town. Wessel Meijer is the Creative Director of Gallery Candy, an innovative and provocative gallery that is pushing the envelope in a town known for progressive thinking.

The installation at the gallery (pictured here) was a concept Wessel created to demonstrate the delicate balance of man and his natural surroundings. It is called “Al een olifant in een porseleinkast,” which literally translates to “Like an elephant in a ceramic shop,” similar to the American expression, “Like a bull in a china shop.” It showcased the artwork of several Dutch art academies intermixed with graffiti art painted by local Red Light dwellers.Check out Gallery Candy on your next trip to Amsterdam. The gallery is located at 111 Warmoesstraat in the Red Light District – where you can see some hot, hot art!

SWOOP: What is your full name?

Nichole Hiltz: What is this, an investigation?! It‘s Nichole Marie Hiltz the III, Your Honor. Just kidding, it‘s Just Nichole Marie Hiltz. The First.

SW: Where are you from?

NH: Boston, Massachusetts. Home of the Tea Party, Massacre, Red Sox, Matt Damon, and lobster. In that order. I came to Los Angeles because, well... Growing up in Boston I had been working very real jobs in all kinds of professional manners, and I was studying acting in the little spare time that I had, trying to make ends meet. At a certain point I realized that I was working my butt off as a full time professional to be able to afford what was really just the hobby of acting. I knew that I if I wanted acting to be my profession, and not just a hobby, that I would have to move to Los Angeles or New York. It‘s hard to leave Boston (Bostonians are devoted to the point of delusion), but my dreams would have still only have been dreams if I hadn‘t packed the truck - seriously, I drive a truck - and moved to Beverleee... (Hills, that is).

I always wanted both my career and my real life to involve searching for truth, opening my heart, igniting my imagination, and searching my soul, while working my ass off and hopefully making some kind of living at it. It turns out that being an actress offers a lot for all that. So really, I just wanted to have my cake and eat it too, because I didn’t feel like I could separate them. America sets us up to go after the American dream with hope, but it doesn’t always give us a road map to actually make that happen. We need the hope just to get started, but we need the education and the confidence and the support to back it up. I found that free education in Los Angeles, just by falling for the "dream" part. And here I am! We‘ll see what happens.

The innocent, sweetly naive part of me held on to old American proverbs like "follow your dreams," "you can do anything you set your mind to," and "honesty is the best policy." In a goofy, Rain Man kind of way, I focused on it, believed it, and found myself swimming with the sharks. There wasn‘t really anything that had proven those clichés wrong, so I moved to LA with a huge dose of hope.

SW: What do you do for fun?

NH: Well, I torture my neighbors with loud racket. That‘s not the part that‘s fun though. It‘s that learning to play the drums is so much fun. I feel truly awful about the first part. Fun to me is getting the right mixture of friends in one room that love music, love to laugh, and love to let loose, while somehow having your back at the same time. That‘s a "Happiness Cocktail" right there. Although sometimes some real cocktails factor in as well.

SW: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

NH: I see myself with all the same desires as that nerdy kid I was, but with many more empowering projects that inspire people in some capacity. I‘m being vague because I don‘t really want to over-plan anything.

SW: Where can we see you in the near future?

NH: I‘m happy to say that my character was invited back to work on Season Two of FX‘s "The Riches," which premieres March 18th, and I‘m just thrilled that my new series, "In Plain Sight," starring Mary McCormack, will be airing its first season on the USA Network June 8th. I hope you can watch it!

As we round the outer tip of the jetty in the Boston Whaler, we leave the choppy main channel behind. The gut-jarring ride is now forgotten; it feels like we’re

sliding across a blanket of silk. The boat is quickly beached, and kites are rigged with great anticipation. We are racing to be the first to slice through glassy water on perfect kiteboarding wind.

Jon Modica is first on the water, and he starts throwing powered Slims, crazy Mobe 5s and his signature S-bend to Blind. Damien LeRoy is not far behind. Jon and Damo are pushing each other to try things I’ve never witnessed before. Damien rides past and tells me to shoot a sequence on his next tack. As I hold the trigger down, he sends a giant Kite Loop Slim Chance and sticks it perfectly. I laugh out loud at how sick that last trick is, and suddenly it all comes into focus: We are in New York, and we are scoring the sickest flatwater session I’ve ever imagined.

Long Island, New York, is a kiteboarding paradise the world has yet to stumble upon. For most, New York is a big city that exists as just another part of the Northeast. But for Jon, a pro rider, Long Island is the perfect training ground. My journey to Long Island began one night sitting in a little restaurant in northern Costa Rica where Jon had been indulging in a few cervezas. I took what he said with a grain of salt.

“Seriously, you really need to come up to Shelter Island,” Jon kept saying. “It is the sickest spot and my favorite training ground.” I heard this a lot that night, dismissing it with every call to the bartender for another round. A few weeks after I returned from Costa Rica, Jon sent me images and video clips of his spot. He insisted I come out to shoot a travel story with he and Damien.

Pulling up to Jon’s parents’ summerhouse on Shelter Island, I start to realize why Jon wanted us to come out. The island is totally different from the the New York I had expected. I learn quickly that sailing is life on Long Island. Everyone sails here. We unload our gear, and Jon explains that his parents are a few hours north at a sailing regatta supporting their eldest son, Charlie, who is on the U.S. sailing team. Charlie and his crew are going for gold in China next year. Jon gave up a sailing scholarship at the University of Connecticut to pursue his dream of being a pro kiteboarder.

I once asked Jon how he got into kiting. He told me about seeing the sport for the

first time and starting a sailing club where he taught youngsters to sail in order to earn money to buy his first kites. Damo and I settle into the bunkhouse and quickly fall asleep, dreaming of what lies ahead.

Morning light awakes the bunkhouse residents. “Good breeze,” Jon says, as he digs through the fridge.

We quickly load up the Boston Whaler and head for the jetty. The Greenport jetty looks like it will hold up to Jon‘s promise. A 15-foot-high rock jetty sticks out a quarter mile into the main channel and creates the most silky-smooth butter you’ve ever seen. We quickly throw everything overboard, and Jon throws up his factory-fresh 12 m2 Switchblade 2 and makes a few tacks.

It’s light and a little gusty, but Jon has a plan. We de-rig, jump back in the boat and head three miles to Orient Point. The wind has filled in enough to ride, so the boys rig up and head out on a down-winder through the four-foot chop and Sunday madness, boats of all shapes and sizes dodging the pair of kiteboarders. After four miles of chop, they flag me in to pick them up on a

little island. They land their kites on the front yard of a giant estate. I ask Jon if people get upset when someone launches and lands on their property. He smiles and says, “The people are all pretty friendly, and the worst that might happen is they ask you in for brunch.”

After lunch, we head back out to Orient Point to find good 12 mph wind and smooth flatwater. With a classic New England lighthouse as the backdrop, Damo and Jon quickly fill my four-gigabite compact flashcard with big Kite Loops, Slims, KGBs and every other wake-style trick in the book. After shooting for three hours, we head back to the house and jump in the car to grab some pizza before passing out.

The next day, we set out again in the Boston Whaler to ride at the jetty. The conditions are not right for photography, so I join the boys and ride butter-flat water for my first time. Learning to kite at C Street in Ventura, California, where it is choppy with surf. I had no idea how fun riding butter smooth water would be. The sound of the water coming off the rail as you slice through at speeds I never thought possible is awesome. After riding for an hour, Jon decides it’s a good day to pull out the slider.

The sun finally comes out, and it’s time to go to work. Damo and Jon throw down high-powered wakestyle stuff when I start yelling at them to one-up each other. Damo hucks the first Kung Fu handlepass I’ve ever seen and sticks it clean. Jon comes back with insane powered Mobes and Slims. It is incredible watching the two push the limits of kiteboarding. We then move on to the slider, which holds Damo’s attention for about 10 minutes. “It’s time to jump that jetty,” he says, riding past me.

I start laughing because I know I’m about to see the maniac in Damien to do something special. After a few tacks in front of the jetty to check out the wind at the takeoff point, Damo sends a huge air and floats over the huge, sketchy structure with ease. Damo is nuts. We ride until dark, friends sharing space on

the water. That night, Mrs. Modica cooks us a New York-style steak and chicken dinner with all the trimmings: rice, beans, salad, cornbread, the works. Fed, bloated and tired, we crash once again in the bunkhouse.

The day begins with the lightest wind of the trip, so we get up and go into town for breakfast at Pat & Steve’s restaurant. Pat & Steve’s is an excellent place to relax and soak in the New York atmosphere. After breakfast, we take the Whaler out for some wakesurfing behind the boat and have a few laughs as we all get worked over and over again.

We almost lose hope of some breeze when we notice whitecaps building in the channel. We bolt back to the house to trade the surfboards for kite gear. Two of Jon’s friends from Florida extend their stay to hang out with us. T.J. Izzo is one of those comedian types who always makes you laugh. He had flown a trainer kite once, and since the wind is light, Damo grabs him and starts teaching him how to fly a real kite. He gets up and rides his first day. Must be the teacher.

Pat Bordner is one of Jon’s kite buddies from Florida, and it’s a riot watching him take the worst wipeouts trying to learn an S-bend. The guy goes for it full blast and destroys himself. He finally gets it and is sticking them clean, but he’s bruised and beaten by day’s end.

It’s a magical day because someone gets his first taste of the sport we all love, and it’s also a day for new friends to live life to the fullest, even though we do have the occasional carnage. We get off the water and head to Greenport by boat for dinner at a seafood restaurant called Claudio’s with Jon’s dad, uncle and cousins. The atmosphere is incredible and the food outstanding, but we’ve all had one of those days where you’re so tired and hungry you could eat dirt.

The trip would not be complete without a cutthroat croquet tournament. All the boys, plus a few neighbors, jump into a 10-man croquet war exercise. I talk Jon’s brother, Charlie, into watching my back since they’re all gunning for me, knocking the enemy’s balls into the bushes as I make a run for the finish. I get caught with one shot to go, and give up the crown to Pat, the rugby player, I run inside to get some water and return to find Charlie writhing in pain on the ground after being body-slammed by T.J. for his role in my almost-championship croquet

week. Everyone’s messing around, but we’re glad to see the U.S. sailing Olympic athlete walk off the lawn without injury.

After a week of unbelievable conditions, it’s a time to go home. It’s great living life without a care and creating memories of a place the kiting world knows little of. Long Island is truly a unique resource. The landscape looks nothing like the New York you see on TV; it looks closer to the picture on a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream container: grassy farmland with cows and a red barns. With plenty of summer sun, warm water and great scenery, it can’t be beat for flatwater kiting and “good breeze.”.

"He had flown a trainer kite once, and since the wind is light, Damo grabs him and starts teaching him how to fly a real kite. He gets up and rides his first day. Must be the teacher."

ARIES MAR 20 - APR 20This New Moon, your ruler, Mars, is in Cancer in its fall.

ASK A WOLF!

How far in advance should I start looking for a home? 3 months? A year?-Natalie Patience, MB

I might be moving to Seattle or Denver for work – can you help me find a home there?-Will Getzendanner, Los Angeles

How do I, as a buyer, determine the value of a home?-Ben Fishback, Hermosa Beach

Sart now! Not only will starting early allow you to learn more about the local market and the specifics of the home-buying pro-cess, but it will also give you the opportu-nity to establish your specific wants and needs when looking for the perfect home. The more educated a buyer is, the more confidence they will have and the more exciting the decision will be when the time is right!

While we are only licensed in the state of California, Shorewood has an excel-lent Relocation Department that can find you a trusted realtor in any market across the US. The agents in our database have proven they are up to Shorewood stan-dards, so you know you’ll find someone reliable: if Shorewood trusts them, so can you! Of course, you know who to call if you’re moving and need help selling your current home in Southern California: The Wolf & Wolf Team!

Buyers determine the value of a home by looking at the price of one home based on its features and benefits and comparing it to the price and characteristics of similar homes that have recently sold or are cur-rently for sale in the respective area. Your agent (ahem!) should be able to organize a Comparative Market Analysis to help you better determine value.

How about 15?!
