IEditorial (December 5th.) Dear friends, Welcome to the last edition of Shortwave News in 1992. Let me take this opportunity to wish you all

A merry Christmas and a happy New Year

with a BIG "Thank you very much" for all your sup' port during 1992. With your help we were certainly not able to make such a good and informative bul- letin month after month. We at the board hope to hear from all of you also in the new year to come and from those we seldom hear of - or never hear of - we should of course also like to get in contact from time to time, so please don'r hesita, te to write us. As written in my last editorial, we have now than, ged our distribution system a little, so that our printing house also puts the SWN into envelopes and mail the bulletin by the DHL company. We have had some complains that SWN was delayed in what it used to be received. I think that a little mis, understanding could have occured, as some members think they always will get their copy in the firs week of the month. That is not true, it fully de- pends when the deadline is, as it can change up tt 6 days. If the deadline is late, your SWN will al, so be late. I can tell you as a rule, our printin house always will have the manuscripts on the first Monday of the month - no matter if this is on the 1st or the 7th of the month. SWN are than mailied to you on Thursday/Friday the same week. Please bear that in mind when you're eagerly wai- ting for your copy of SWN. I have also to add, that because of this new sy- stem, we no more got the opportunity to mark the envelopes with "Due to renew", rf. page 25, SWN 11/92. So we ask you to read carefully page 3, Due to renew" and see if your number is out, and if it is, please send your membership fee to our treasurer. This had value from November, so pleas read page 3 also in the November issue, to be sur that you'll not miss a copy of SWN because your membership fee has been expired. From January 1993 our new QSL-editor, Harald Kuhl will take over this job from Marc Decock, who has been the editor of this section for almost 10 years. I want here to express my sincere thank yo very very much to Marc for such a good and stable job he has done during the years. It has certain1 been a pleasure to work with you, Marc. We hope t hear from you from time to time when you have re- tired. Let me hear welcome Harald as new editor, hoping that you'll find your new job interesting. We all at the board know Harald, as he has been participating our AGM's for many years now beside he is a very clever and keen DX-er, so no doubt that we'll have a new experienced editor. Harald' address is: Postfach 110226, D-W 3400 Gattingen, Germany. His address will of course be mentioned on page 2 next month. \

The 1993 edition of WRTH will be out in the middl of January. It will cost D.kr. 210,- and our club will sell it for our Scandinavian members only. For the rest of you, we can recommend to buy the book e.g. by our German member, Friedrich Biittner Zeppelinstrasse 61, D-W 7320 Gzppingen, Germany a he is an official WRH agent. The price is DM 54,-

The front page picture shows our Venezuela member Clemente Monges in the studio of Barquisimeto. This brings me to an end for this month, please remember to mail early due to the Christmas rush! Deadline is on December 17th.

Hello and welcome again to Clandestine News. Even after last month’s absence I have hardly received anough material to get one page to- gether. Considering that the material below has been received over a period of two months, this is clearly the lowest level of support I've ever seen since I took over this column about 9 years ago. If anyone is still listen- ing to clandestine stations, please send me your news and tips right now, otherwise we might see some serious consequences...

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and I hope to see you again in 1993!

CKWX -* I talked to Jack Wiebe, Chief Engineer, just to ask him what happened to the 6080 kHz transmitter and If there were any futul-e plans for SW. He told me that he is currently working on a transmitter at ho- me, d license renewal has been filed, and he expects to have CKWX back on the same 6080 kHz frequency by Christmas. Power output will be greater than the old low and he wi 11 be conducting same tests soon. He said the old transmitter was also a homebrew in which the modulation transformer blew. That transmitter was built in the mid-1940s. There is no commercial value in SW for CKWX ’ 8 this activity is simply due to their interest and desire to maintain the 6020 kHz opera- tinq license. 4840 R Interoceanica: when Ecuador opened oilfields in the junglearea called Oriente, people moved

along and cleared land near the socalled oil- road. The Pacto church has operated intensive- ly with people in these areas and a number of congregations have appeared. - In these inac- cessible areas east of the Andes communication conditions are difficult. Therefore the Pacto church has concentrated efforts to build up a local radiostation - Radio Interoceanica. - People in the Oriente area feel a bit forgot- ten by the rest of the country and therefore the station plays an important role. The sta- tion broadcasts in more languages including

Quechua and Spanish. The programmes are very much appreaciated. Mornings and evenings Radio InteroceAnica - from the town of Santa Rosa - transmits on SW to reach the really inacces- sible areas. Other times, the FM band is used. The programmes consist of news, cookery tips, health tips, sports, music, education, culture and church services. At certain times during the day “mensajes” are broadcast. The aim is to be “the voice of the people” and help peop- le to communicate with eachother. Radio Inter- oce6nica is run by the central organisation, and d station manager and d technician dre employed. The programmes are produced by free- lance employees and volunteers. Now the sta- tion has to be self-financing, and they have plans to introduce commercials (Swedish “Mis- sion” via SWB, in free translation from Swe- dish to English by ye Danish ed)

GUIDE TO UTILITY STATIONS 1993 1 lth edition l 534 pages l DM 70 / f 30 / $ 52

5000 new coastal and fixed station frequencies!

Our bestseller covers the complete frequency range between 0 and 30 MHz. We are the very first non-governmental monitoring service to use state-of-the-art equipment such as the revolutionary new WAVECOM W4100 teleprinter systems decoder. Latest military and political events such as the impacts of the Gulf War and the Balkan War, and of the re- cent and current revolutions in Eastern Europe, are covered exclusively by our UTILITY GUIDE. Sophisticated operating methods and regular over- seas monitoring missions (1992 for months in Brunei, Dominica, Indone- sia, Malaysia, Martinique, Sabah and Sarawak) complete this unique book.

The completely revised new edition includes a frequency list with 19549 frequencies, and a call sign list with 3590 call signs. Up-to-date schedules of FAX meteo stations and RTTY press services are listed both alphabetically and chronologically. Abbreviations, addresses, codes, defini- tions, explanations, frequency band plans, international regulations, modu- lation types, NAVTEX schedules, Q and Z codes, station classes, telex codes, etc. - this reference book lists everything. Thus, it is the ideal addi- tion to the World Radio TV Handbook for the “special” stations on SW!

Further publications available are Air and Mete0 Code Manual, Guide to Facsimile Stations and Radioteletype Code Manual (12th editions). We have published our international radio books for 23 years. They are in daily use with equipment manufacturers, monitoring services, radio ama- teurs, shortwave listeners and telecommunication administrations world- wide. GUIDE TO FACSIMILE STATIONS 12th edition l 416 pages l DM 50 / f 20 / $ 35

The recording of FAX stations on longwave and shortwave and the recep- tion of meteorological satellites are fascinating fields of radio monitoring. Powerful equipment and inexpensive personal computer programs connect a radio receiver directly to a laser or ink-jet printer. Satellite pictures and weather charts can now be recorded automatically in top quality.

The new edition of our FAX GUIDE contains the usual up-to-date fre- quency lists and precise transmission schedules of all stations worldwide. It informs you about new FAX converters and computer programs on the market. The most comprehensive international survey of the “products” of weather satellites and FAX stations from all over the world is included: 358 sample charts and pictures were recorded in 1991, and 1992! Here are that special charts for aeronautical and maritime navigation, the agri- culture and the military, barographic soundings, climatological analyses, and long-term forecasts, which are available nowhere else.

Additional chapters cover l List of 310 frequencies monitored in 1991 and 1992. Call sign list. l Exact schedules - to the minute! - of 90 FAX stations, and of meteoro-

logical satellites GMS (Japan), GOES (USA), and METEOSAT (Europe). l Abbreviations. Addresses. Regulations. Technique. Test charts.
