WHY DO WE DO IT?

I have often wondered why we spend on average 4 hours playing a round of 18 holes, if it only takes 3 minutes to swing the club, or play Golf. I came upon the answer in Darin Gee’s book, “The Seven Principals of Golf.”

An average of 90 shots including putts multiplying that by 2 seconds means: that during an average round of golf, you actually play golf for 180 seconds or 3 minutes. So if you are onlyswingingtheclubfor3minutes,thenwhatfillsuptherestof the time?Hopefully, you are having fun, taking in the scenery and enjoying the company of your playing partners. However, more than likely your mind is swarming with non-stop thoughts, judgmental, over- analysis and self-criticism of your performance. How often have you overloaded you mind with thoughts like, “What am I doing wrong”? , “Is my head still?’, “I need to keep my elbows in, and my wrists cocked, my grip strong, “This is embarrassing!”, or why can’t I hit itlikeIdidyesterday?’Otherdistractionsmayfillyourmind.“Thisroundisslow,”Ibetterhurryup, peopleare waiting behind us,” My coach is watching,” or I just blew my entire score on that ONE hole!”“I’ve got so much to do at work,” I wonder what we’re going to eat for dinner,” I better not be late today, I should hurry up,” or I should be home with my kids.”

Whenyoufinallyreachyourballandit’syourturntohit, yourmindisteemingwithunwantedthoughts.Emptying your mind of all those thoughts is critical to hitting good shots. With a crowded and busy mind, it willnotonlybedifficult, butvirtuallyimpossible.Even Tiger Woods says the he doesn’t concentrate fully for four hours straight, but rather only when he needs to-----right before or during, each and every shot.

Simply put, a golfer only needs to concentrate for a few seconds at a time. The key is to be able to achieve this level of concentration on command, and consistently for each and every shot. This is how players, at all levels succeed in this game: by playing one shot at a time.

Until the next SWING, May you always hit the sweet spot and remember to play it one shot at a time!

For the love of the game

Mini Portrait:Who is Dieter Praun? The complete golferHow do your relatives describe you? ReliableAge: 45 years oldWhat is your nationality? GermanAre you married and do you have children? I am divorced but my ex wife and her son are still my best friends Your hobby: I have quite a few, but I really enjoyed playing golf with my friends followed by lunch or dinnerFavourite song: My wayFavourite book: Le petit Prince by Antoine de Saint ExuperyMotto: live and let live

Portrait•••

Dieter Praun is someone who lives for his passion. The Golf Director of Constance Belle Mare Plage has since childhood been close to the green world. He later had the chance to experience many golf courses and famous players around the world. From journalist to golf director, Dieter Praun shares his adventures with Swingtime

First of all introduce yourself, when did your passion for golf begin and for how long have you been a PRO?

I began playing the game when I was seven years old. I was greatly influenced by my parents who started playing golf when they were based in Jakarta in the sixties. I continued playing in Geneva, Switzerland and Divonne-les-Bains in France. I achieved a single handicap by the age of 14 and was nearly scratch at 16 years old. We then moved to Tunis and I spent most of my time windsurfing. I only took up golf again when I went to university and after Berhard Langer won the Masters in 1985, I then decided to make golf my profession.

Becoming a PRO with international recognition is not an easy task… how did you manage to reach this level?

I definitely wanted to play on tour after my studies, but I soon realized that I was not good enough; therefore I started my apprenticeship at the PGA whilst doing journalism practice training. Since then, I have translated 20 golf bestsellers for Symon & Schuster in New York. I also wrote for various golf magazines and daily newspapers. When golf started becoming popular on TV, I was soon called upon as a commentator and editor and have completed up until now more that 2000 broadcasts for Eurosport, NBC and UPC based in Paris, Singapore and Amsterdam. During the

winter, I worked as a golf consultant in Thailand. International recognition comes from international activities.

What is your best experience in golf?

Golf has given me international career opportunities and a very interesting life.

And what about your worst experience?

Turning up at the golf course and realizing that I have forgotten my shoes.

Tell us about your experience as a golf director?

I have been doing golf consulting in South-Asia since 1995. When the region was hit by the tiger state crisis, I bundled clubs that were struggling, introduced zero capex and revenue-sharing solutions to re-launch the golf projects that had run out of steam. I mostly worked with manufacturers and media.

For how long have you been working for the Constance Group?

2 fantastic years!

Portrait •••What are the main roles of a golf director?

A golf director should be able to manage people, be a connector, be persuasive, respected and an expert. A successful director understands the importance of well trained staff, motivates, delegates and rewards. You have to be a mentor, a master in public relations and understand the B2B. At a holiday resort, guest relations, is also of paramount importance

As a pro, what according to you is the level of Mauritian golf compared to other countries? Do you think that Mauritius has the potential to become a world class golf destination? Mauritius is a world class golf destination because it offers all the innovations, beautiful courses and still has managed to preserve the traditional aspect of the game. Many countries believe that building a lot of courses makes them a better golfing destination but that is definitely not the case.

Mr Praun, according to you, why should golfers choose Legends and Links instead of another golf course? De gustibus non est disputandum, but the Legend is the real Mauritian golf experience with its abundant endemic vegetation, volcanic outcrops and deer population, and so is totally different from all other courses on the island. The Links is a fantastic lay-out for players of all skills: friendly for the beginner and a tough for the experienced, that needs to go for the green. On both courses, as a respect to endemicity, we only use the indigenous flora.

With the growing number of new golf courses, how have the two courses of Constance belle Mare plage positionned themselves?

Better and better... like Gucci said;

Price is long forgotten, while quality still lasts.

One of the main objectives of the Mauritius Golf Federation is to make Mauritius a golfing population? What are your opinions?

The most important step would be an affordable public driving range so that

children can take up golf. There are many ways to support the talented such as the Swingtime Adopt-A-Golfer program. Mauritius needs and deserves a golf champion.

This December, the two golf courses of Constance Belle Mare Plage will host one of the biggest events ever organized on the island - the MCB Open Mauritius, how are the preparations progressing?

We have done a tremendous amount of work to meet the very high European Tour standards. I like the Senior Tour, the players are much more charismatic than most of the young guns. For sure, it will be a great week from 8th to 13th of December.

Swingtime Mauritius recently launched the Adopt-A-Golfer Program? What are your comments about this particular initiative?

It is a fantastic project that will help support local talent. I will soon adopt a golfer as well…

A last note about Swingtime’s 1st year anniversary on the Mauritian market?

Golf is the ideal tool to promote any product or project, which is why I am convinced that the idea, “The Business of Golf” will be a great success.

Patrice Perdrau

“We are pleased to have been part of the first Swingtime Corporate Golf Challenge and to have taken the 3rd place. My brother and my good friends, the Sullivan brothers are acquainted with competitions, we tried to participate as much as we can. I think we have this competitive spirit in common. In fact, the competition was a good experience, playing on three golf courses for the same competition, means different challenges and we had to keep track all throughout the game to be among the best. We tried our best and we came out third, which is not so bad. We had a wonderful weekend at the One&Only Le Saint Geran with our spouses and we are looking forward for the next competition, with more players and more challengers”

Christian Perdrau

“Simply wonderful the three days competition… it was tough sometimes especially the last day with the wind and rain. But we made it and we had great fun together with our friends the Sullivan brothers. I think there should more competitions of this level with more interesting prizes; this definitely will attract more participants. This is definitely more fun, more challenging to have more players in a competition. I believe that next year’s event will attract more golfers. Regarding our third place, I would prefer to win the 1st place… but anyway our next year’s challenge. We definitely had a great time at the hotel, relaxing and enjoying ourselves”

Winner’s corner •••

The Perdrau and Sullivan team also called the brothers team kept the pace all throughout the Swingtime Corporate Golf Challenge 2009 held in three prestigious golf courses of Mauritius namely the Constance Belle Mare plage course- Links and Legends while the final competition was held at The Touessrok golf course at Ile aux Cerfs. The four passionate golfers are in quest of new adventures on the greens. The Perdrau and Sullivam team ended up with 128 points behind A.C.N.L team and the winning team, Ernst and Young. They 3rd place winners were rewarded with gifts and prizes from different sponsors - from vouchers to souvenir gold medals for their prestigious performance. But the biggest prize for the team was a weekend stay at the 5 stars hotel- One& Only Le Saint Geran in Belle Mare.

Pierre Sullivan

“The Swingtime Corporate Golf Challenge was one of the biggest events I have participated this year. A very good experience for me and my mates and I believe that this formula will work in the future. Once people get to know what it is, they will queue to participate. We had great times on the green competing with people from different nationalities. I really enjoyed and I will surely participate in next year’s event. We are a great team and it was not only a personal experience but our team spirit grew stronger and stronger on the last day. I am looking forward for next year”

Christian Sullivan

Christian Sullivan just like his other friends is a passionate golfer. Practicing golf for many years now, he has been participating in many competitions before. “I was impressed by the organization of the tournament. The competition was of high level in three exceptional golf courses in Mauritius. I am glad to have been part of the 1st edition and hope to be in the next with more players. It was a wonderful time and this formula is meant to be successful in the future. Furthermore, we really appreciate our stay at the One&Only Le Saint Geran, a very nice prize. But next year we will go for the 1st prize, the race will be tough but we will make it as usual”

Page 29: Swingtime 6th Issue

Ginger Delacretaz lives for her passion. Aged 18, the young lady has been chosen as the 1st Mauritian adopted golfer by Swingtime. under the supervision and guidance of Billy Narraina, the golf director of Swingtime magazine, she will be trained for a period of one year. This is the start of a new adventure for Ginger who only made her first step in the field one and a half year ago.

The former tri-athlete devotes her spare times to a calmer and nature oriented sport. In fact, she took her first steps in golf through her mother Marie Michele. her interest for the sport grew quite quickly because just like triathlon, she was asked to surpass her abilities while keeping track. “I started playing golf at Belle Mare, in the beginning, I used to accompany my mother at her golf lessons, but soon I wanted to try. Then I had my first lessons with the pro golfer of Belle Mare, Alexandre Nicholini for one year. It did not take me long to develop a real passion for the sport” she declared.

Playing golf on a fulltime basis was a tricky decision for Ginger Delacretaz . “Months after I started my golf tuition at Belle Mare and Four Seasons, I realized that golf was all that I wanted to do. I did not only want to better my game but be a real professional in the field. Golf is very different from triathlon in the sense that nothing should be taken for granted until the game is over. The peaceful and exotic atmosphere takes you into another world. Furthermore, the challenge is still present even when you play alone”.

Determined, it did not take much to persuade her parents of her choice. “My first competition was at Anahita, five months after my introduction to the game. The competition was held during two days. Since I did not know exactly what was waiting for me, I was not at all stressed on the 1st day. But at the end of the day, when I saw my score, I realized that my performance was in fact not that bad, since I finished among the first five. The next day, I was a bit stressed but I did not surrender, I played to the best of my ability and in the end achieved the second prize. A very good first experience. And now, from competition to competition, I try to improve my aptitudes by giving the best of myself. “

Even though she does not come from a golfer

background, Ginger continues her way in this unknown new world. She recognized that without the help and support of her parents, she would not have reached this stage. “I am lucky to have the support of my parents. In the beginning, they respected my choice when I decided not to go for tertiary education in Europe. “I have no regret in having chosen this path. And I really thank my parents for their moral and financial support” she states.

With regard to the Adopt-A-Golfer program, Ginger is very proud to be part of this particular program meant to democratize further the sport of golf. “I am happy that they chose me. I do not want to ask questions but rather concentrate on the training and take the maximum out of it. Golf is a field with a promising future and I want to be part of that adventure whether as a professional player or monitor. My sincere thanks go to the swingtime Magazine team especially Alan and Billy for believing in me” she concluded.

Marie Michele Delacretaz (Mother of Ginger)Marie Michèle Delacretaz often

accompanies her daughter during her golf training sessions. The social golfer confesses that golf transformed her daughter. « I have observed quite a few positive changes in my daughter’s attitude since she plays golf. She seems to have gained a bit of maturity. And on the golf course, I have noticed that she seems to be in her element, at peace with herself while keeping a competitive mindset. She has a prodigious force of character and she seldom gets discouraged when she misses the blow.”

Marie Michèle categorically states« They would never have supported Ginger if they did not believe in her ability; I know that she is very assiduous and I think that she can shine in this particular sector. Ginger wanted to give it a try and she has our full support and we give her advice where needed. She may not succeed, but who tries nothing has nothing…”

Mary Michèle is happy that golf, a long time reserved to a segment of the society is becoming little by little more open. “Golf as everybody knows is a selective sport with restricted access to the whole population. It is definitely a good thing for the Mauritian people allowing them to discover new horizons.”

Furthermore, she concludes that « I appreciate the initiative of Swingtime Magazine, which is to launch the Adopt- A- Golfer program. This particular project will definitely revolutionize Mauritian golf by allowing us to discover and accompany need talents.

Proud of his daughter, Jean – Claude Delacretaz is

assured that Ginger has a promising future in the golf sector. Nevertheless, he is aware that the way towards success will not be easy and that it requires years of hard labor to achieve her objectives. “At the end of Ginger’s secondary studies, she was confronted with a big choice – going to Europe for tertiary education like her sister, or stay in Mauritius to start a new adventure in golf. however, my spouse Marie Michele and I were persuaded that our daughter was talented and it was thus worth giving it a try. A huge bet, but she knows that she has all of our support in this adventure”.

We definitely follow Ginger’s career closely like all parents do. “We have invested in golf tuition, equipment and give advice where needed” he underlines. Between golf lessons and golf training, the owner of a small hotel at Poste Lafayette ensures that his daughter has the opportunity to experience another type of job. “During the day, when there are no golf lessons or training, Ginger is busy helping us at the hotel. She is in charge of the customer services and relations which will enable her to develop other qualities which can help her in the future.

Furthermore, the Adopt- A- Golfer program launched by Swingtime Magazine came right on time for the Delacretaz family. “I sincerely think that this program is a very good initiative on the part of Swingtime Magazine. Mauritian golf is in bad need of such program to discover new talent. I was impressed with the seriousness of the program whereby the Mauritius Golf Federation as well as the Ministry of Sport also took part in this innovative project. Ginger has a lucky chance as not only she will be sponsored in terms of equipment but will also gain from experience. I am sure that she will definitely make the most of this experience to better her game”.

Jean – Claude d Delacretaz added that the program is a good step forward. “This is definitely a good project taking into consideration the cost of golf lessons which are very high. And there is finally a structure in place to follow young golf talent. Proof that Mauritian golf is truly going towards democratization.”

Billy Narraina, the golf director of Swingtime Magazine is the man behind Ginger’s recruitment for the Swingtime’s Adopt- A- Golfer program. he will also follow closely the golf training sessions of Ginger for a period of one year. “

One day I was invited to play with a friend and Ginger. It was the first time that I saw her playing golf. I shall admit that I was quite impressed by her game after the round. At the same time, at Swingtime, we were eagerly working on the Adopt- A-Golfer program launch and the CEO; Mr. Alan Duval showed me a tape of the program and the story of Morganna Robertze in South Africa. I thought of Ginger and after discussions with the CEO, we decided to have another round with her. We then decided to meet her parents and give her a real chance to excel in what she does best.

From my golf experience, I honestly think that she has very big potential to improve and I am very confident she can be one of the greatest female Mauritian golf players in the next 3 or 4 years and hopefully, after her training and experience, she will have the chance to play on the pro circuit in five years.

Furthermore, the one year training programme will be a real boost for her. her parents will first of all be financially relieved. Secondly, the supervision and coaching program that I have planned will definitely help adopted golfers to become future stars of Mauritius and who knows, they might event represent the country in 2016 in the Olympic games since golf will be included

“Mauritian projects provide a more reliable

alternative to stock market investments...”

Reliable, professional and versatile... these are some of the qualifications used to describe Acorn Fund Management. The company in fact, offers a variety of investment opportunities suitable for pension funds, high net worth individuals, sophisticated investors and so forth. Those who called upon the expertise of the British company are provided with valuable and independent financial advice before investing in these opportunities. Five years ago, the Acorn Fund Management has established the Mauritian Capital fund. A real opportunity that AFM’s management has decided to seize with the rapid growth of the property sectors in Mauritius. In an exclusive interview devoted to Swingtime Magazine, Harry Dutson, chief executive of AFM explains why Mauritius has been chosen as one of his main hub for international investment.

What does Acorn Fund Management (AFM) do?AFM essentially works towards the needs of two sets

of clients allowing them to connect together to provide a solution for both parties. AFM does this by providing the framework for experienced entrepreneurs to attract investment for their projects and, at the same time, this allows AFM to offer alternative investment opportunities suitable for pension fund investment (UK only) or individuals (worldwide) making direct investments. As an appointed representative of a Financial Services Authority authorised and regulated company in the UK, AFM ensures that the best interests of the Investors are taken care of.

What is AFM’s background?AFM started life as part of the corporate finance firm,

Acorn Corporate Finance, which was involved in fund operations as early as 2003. Over the past six years, as AFM’s experience in the fund operation/management field developed and as the fund management business grew, it become evident that this part of the business was so successful that it deserved its own company. For this reason AFM was established earlier this year.

Harry DutsonChief Executive of AFM

What experience does the AFM team have?

AFM’s team encompasses professionals with experience in fundraising, compliance, corporate finance and tax advice.

AFM’s Chief Executive, Harry Dutson, has over 25 years experience in the funding and support of new companies. He previously ran a corporate venturing fund for Ferranti International plc and was the key person at Acorn Corporate Finance, developing the fund management business, which evolved into AFM. Harry is an expert in advising on fundraising and regulatory issues.

Harry is supported by a strong team including a compliance professional with over 20 years experience in the financial markets arena, a corporate finance professional with 35 years experience and a tax expert who spent 27 years working for the Inland Revenue in the UK before establishing his own specialist consultancy.

Why does AFM want to be involved in projects based in Mauritius?

AFM believes that Mauritius has immense investment potential for a number of reasons. There has been considerable growth in the tourism and services industries,

Page 36: Swingtime 6th Issue

Harry Dutson is the man behind the success of Acorn Fund Management. Expert in advising on fundraising and regulatory issues, he counts more than 25 years experience in this sector which consists of fundraising, compliance, corporate finance and tax advice. In fact, the chief executive of AFM built a strong reputation in the financial arena. Previously managing a corporate venturing fund for Ferranti international Plc, he was the key person at Acorn Corporate Finance developing the fund management business, which evolved into AFM.

Harry is supported by a strong team including a compliance professional with over 20 years experience in the financial markets arena, a corporate finance professional with 35 years experience and a tax expert who spent 27 years working for the Inland Revenue in the UK before establishing his own specialist consultancy

which is already attracting foreign investment. The tax structure in the country is very appealing to foreign investors as are the advantages of the Integrated Resort Scheme and Real Estate Scheme. As the Mauritian government is targeting to bring 2 million tourists per annum to the island by 2015, it opens up the development potential for hotels and increases the requirement for hospitability, leisure and recreational facilities. These development projects will provide the type of investment vehicles that AFM specialises in. AFM already has one Mauritian project underway, which is seeking investment in order to purchase a range of residential and commercial properties on the island.

How will AFM structure any Mauritian investment products?

Any future products will be structured in a similar way to the existing funds. AFM will arrange for a limited partnership to be set up to accept the investment monies and will also set up a unit trust to accept monies from UK pension fund investors. This structure is appealing to UK investors as it provides a tax efficient way to invest. The limited partnership structure also allows for investment from individuals in other countries increasing the fundraising potential.

Why does AFM believe that projects offering investment in Mauritius will work?

AFM believes there is considerable potential for development in Mauritius due to the growth in the tourism and services industries. Particularly in the current economic climate, investors are looking for investment products that

are less volatile than the stock markets and that provide a steady income. For example, AFM’s current Mauritian project is seeking to provide investors with a 4% income per annum for 5 years, as well as 60% of any profits when the fund is wound up. With the growth potential in Mauritius, investors should see the benefits of an investment in Mauritian projects, which will hopefully provide a more reliable alternative to stock market investments.

In addition, AFM has already been attracting substantial interest in “overseas investment” products for another of its clients, Eurocape Property Finance, which uses the investment monies to make secured loans to social housing property developers in South Africa. AFM knows the appetite is there for alternative investments such as this as Eurocape already has three successful funds in operation and a fourth has just been launched.

AFM appears to be focused on niche products, why is that?

AFM’s interest in alternative investment products stems from the growing appetite of investors to move away from traditional investment products and incorporate products that are not correlated to the stock market. The recent instability of the stock markets and housing markets and the significant decrease in the Bank of England base rate has dented investors’ confidence in these areas and has prompted them to diversify their portfolios. Additionally, the availability of traditional funding for these niche products is limited, which provides a gap in the market for AFM to step into.

How does your relative describe you: Great

Are you married and have children: Not married and no children

Your hobby: Travelling

Favorite sport: Golf, I restarted playing one year ago and every Sunday, I go to the Links Golf Course in Belle Mare

to have a couple of swings with my friends. I enjoy playing because it is not only relaxing but a very good

physical exercise.

Your dream: Have a new house in Belle Mare near my favorite golf course

As a golf amateur, how do you position Mauritius (level) in this sport?

Ten years and even five years ago, Mauritius has been the worse

place where a golfer would have played golf. Now, it has become

amazing with the high class golf courses, IRS and golf clubs. I think it is one of the best destinations in the southern hemisphere especially that one can play all year round with the tropical climate.

Do you use golf games in your business transactions (as a mean to close business

transactions)? Since now I have

never concluded any business transactions on

the golf course, however, I have met a few of my

important clients on the golf course. From now on, I will

surely try to do it.

Outgoing, friendly and charming, David Harris cherishes every moment of his life. As a prestigious director of a BPO company, he shares his positive attitude with his employees and other people he comes across every day. Between his exciting professional life and golf, the British man has developed a real passion for Mauritius… his adopted country.

First of all introduce yourself and tell us more about your professional life?

I am David Harris and the general manager of a call center named Answerplus Ltd. I used to own a call center in the United Kingdom but closed down in 2000 after ten years of operation. I received my Mauritian citizenship three years ago and I live in Grand Bay. The island also fascinated me, and before settling here, I used to come on holidays to visit my friends. I play golf for more than 15 years but recently rediscovered the pleasures of the game at Belle Mare through a couple of friends.

Answerplus has developed a strong reputation in the field of BPO in Mauritius. When and how the company was established in Mauritius?

Answerplus was incorporated in 2002 but started operations one year later. I shall admit that it was purely by accident that I decided to launch a call center here. Everything happened during one of my holidays on the island, when I was invited for the first time by Mahen Utchanah for lunch. During our meeting, he propositioned me to be his partner in a new BPO business… and a few months later, I was once more at the head of a call center. I should say that I was at the right place and at the right time… I am in partnership with Mahen Utchanah, a Mauritian businessman and since 2003; we set up the BPO business at Mer Rouge. Our main clients are located in Northern UK, USA and some European countries. We have around 100 employees working with us and our business is running quite smoothly.

Can you tell us more about the activities of Answerplus? What about the services offered?

Answerplus is a solution driven company supplying to all your needs pertaining to your industry and requirements. Our Call Centre helps you become an extended business, operating around the clock, seven days a week. We offer a variety of services from customer services, hotlines, surveys and telemarketing and so forth. Our major client in France counts a turnover of 1 million euro. More interestingly is that we are able satisfy client’s goals and achieve companies objectives with few employees – the lowest rate compared to other BPO companies in Mauritius.

What is the vision and mission of the company? We are a model call centre viewed internally and

externally as professional, enthusiastic, and trustworthy. We reward our employees for creativity, hard work, and responsiveness to the needs of our customers. We treat our

employees and our customers with dignity and respect; we operate with high diligence as we effectively manage our resources, while providing the highest level of service to our customers. We leverage advanced technologies using a professional and well trained staff to deliver both value and quality to our customers.

The government of Mauritius aims at making Mauritius, a real BPO hub for investors, do you think that it is a realistic goal?

Yes, I think that it is now realistic; especially that telephone lines cost has gone down. When we first operated, the cost of telephone lines was around $U.S 10 thousand per month, which is definitely very high. This was a great obstacle to BPO to remain competitive on the market. Thankfully, the government understood that the BPO sector can bring a lot to the country’s economy in terms of income and employment. And lowering costs as well as giving incentives were only a reasonable and essential solution in the long term as well as short term.

What are the objectives of the company? Our main objective is to continue growth. I think that

recession is ending now, and we can see positive signs of business recovery. We are currently undertaking recruitment sessions through DCDM to employ around 50 to 100 new staff in the coming months. Now that our reputation has been built, we must consolidate the company and get in a stronger position in the next five years.

A bit of history…

The diamond cutting factory in Mauritius was originally opened in 1970, under the company L.S.P. Limited situated in the Industrial Free Zone of Mauritius. It is still in operation today under the present owners, the Denton family. In the early 1920’s, the great-grandfather of the present owner, Mr. Stephen P. Denton, immigrated with his family of diamond polishers to South Africa, and started the famous Goldstein Cutting Works, one of the largest diamond cutting works in South Africa for nearly 60 years. It was Denton’s father, Albert Goldstein who originally took over the diamond cutting works here in Mauritius in 1980, and Mr. Denton took it over soon thereafter. In June 2005, Stephan

Denton’s son, Sebastian began full time employment with the family companies, adding another generation to the trade, and continuing the family’s nearly two century long history in the diamond cutting industry.

The diamond cutting operations used to be the pillar in foreign investment, development of industry and employment in the Mauritian economy. Time has evolved but still the Denton’s three companies; Mauriden Ltd, L.S.P Ltd as well as Adamas ltd are still heavily involved in the diamond trade, using the latest high-tech manufacturing equipment, with clients from all over the world whereby some spanning more than 20 years of association.

Adamas ltdA true jewelry manufacturer

Adamas, the greek word for diamond is now part and parcel of the Denton family. While the first diamond cutting retail outlet – Adamas Ltd was established in Mauritius in 1987 by Mr Denton, the involvement of the Denton family in this field dates back to the mid-1800 in Belgium. As from that time, many generations of this family were involved in all aspects of the diamond trade.

Nautica, Pierre Cardin, Guess Collection & Guess, Buren of Switzerland, with new brands added each year. Since July 2007, Adamas Ltd is the sole authorized retailer of the centenary-old Montblanc brand in Mauritius. Known for generations as a maker of sophisticated, high quality writing instruments, the Montbanc range has been expanded in the past few years to include exquisite writing accessories, luxury leather goods and belts, jewelry, eyewear and watches.

Adamas ltd offers high quality services…

The group of companies employs more than 75 staff members while the Denton family occupies director positions and has active management roles. Their strength lies on the professionalism of our employees and our ability to infuse into anything we manufacture and sell the knowledge and experience that we have gained over this long history, which allows us to pass on our ‘tricks of the trade’ to our customers for their benefit. Likewise, the sales staffs are extensively trained in diamonds to provide accurate and quality information to clients. Furthermore, several ex-diamond cutters form part of the sales staffs, thus allowing them to advise customers on their diamond purchases at a level they cannot normally find elsewhere, and help them to ensure that customers are getting the best possible diamonds to fit their needs. As they are true manufacturers, the company has the ability to make any design a customer wants within 48 hours, and customers can also pick from among several thousand styles that they carry in their manufacturing inventory. Another major strength of Adamas is that they are high-volume retailers, so they are able to buy in bulk and thus pass on cheaper prices to our customers. Furthermore, they also issue certificates for all items sold in our shops, guaranteeing the metal weight and quality, and the stone number and quality, and offer after-sales service for life on our products with some restrictions though.

Corporate social responsibility

Corporate Social responsibility forms an integral part of the corporate strategy of the company. In so doing, they are actively involved with nongovernmental organizations such as Apeim, United Way, Reef Conservation Mauritius, Paws and so forth. From fun raising events - WIN events, ‘Les enfants d’un Reve’ and so on, Adamas ltd is also involved with the annual distribution of gifts worth more than 50 thousand rupees in some of the poorest regions of Mauritius for Christmas.

Furthermore, Adamas ltd is also interested in the promotion of local cultural events such as Face of the month and Dance Fever Dance. It is a great opportunity for them to take an active part in the growth of the Mauritian society.

Tourist attractions

The growing reputation of Adamas has gone across the seas. Awarded various export awards in the 80’s and charter member of the American chamber of commerce, while the managing director Sebastian Denton was nominated as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2007, it is undeniable that the company has built up a strong reputation through the years. The small, one room offshoot of the original diamond cutting premise of L.S.P. Ltd. and Mauriden Ltd., has largely expanded to four store locations around Mauritius, an attached shopping centre at the Floreal location, adjacent to the still operational diamond cutting works, and a museum at the same location - documenting the history of diamond cutting in Mauritius and explaining the nature of worldwide industry diamond and their manufacturing processes. The Adamas Company is now considered to be a real tourist attraction.

Visitors to the premises can actually see right onto the main diamond polishing floor through special one-way glass in the museum viewing gallery, and thus the tours of the factory that were the start of it all are still available in this safer and more comfortable form today.

Adamas associated with famous jewel designers….

Each day, Adamas Ltd. opens up with an average of 12,000 pieces of jewelry and loose stones on display across all its locations. From its original offerings, Adamas Ltd. has expanded its selection to include designer brands of jewelry such as Louis Glick diamond jewelry, William Goldberg diamond jewellery, the famous Leo cut diamond jewelry collection from Leo Schachter, Michael Werdiger coloured diamond jewellery, Luca Carati Italian designer jewellery, Giorgio Visconti Italian designer jewellery, Lallah & Rosanna Italian designer jewellery, Mastoloni pearls, Bellarri precious stone jewellery, the largest selection of Italian 18k designer gold in the Indian Ocean, along with semi-precious stone jewelry, silver, titanium (by Edward Mirell), steel and other fashionable products, with new styles every few months. Adamas also has exclusive distribution of the renowned, award-winning, Mauriden jewelry collection (our in-house manufactured brand), made in Mauritius on our premises, and of course, true to its roots, we have the largest selection of loose diamonds in the Indian ocean, available for individual sale or as a set, and can be mounted in gold or platinum jewellery of our or the customer’s design, and special diamond requests can be made and sourced if done early in advance. All stones come with internationally recognized laboratory certification (GIA, HRD, IGI, or EGL).

Adamas also offers a selection of gold and other watch brands and luxury accessories, including Mont Blanc, Alfred Dunhill, Techno Marine, Maurice Lacroix, Versace, ORIS,

FMI expects strong growth in 2010

The International Monetary fund expects the country’s economic growth next year to be considerably stronger than 2009. ••• Perspective

Mauritius prepares exit strategy from the global crisis.

The National budget, the last mandate of the current government, read on the 18th November 2009, prepares an exit strategy for Mauritius to be better positioned in taking advantage of new economic growth which will be visible globally in 2010. Right now certain national economic indicators are sufficiently encouraging for a better future for the population and for the Minister of Finance, Rama Sithamen. He can be rightly satisfied with the way he has managed the economy. An assessment which goes in line with local economic observers, who stress the need for policy makers to prepare and apply the exit strategy in order to assist the country’s economic recovery from the effects of the global crisis. More particularly, because the country is leading its way in an election year (2010), and the upward risks that some popular social measures are taken to be more than real.

The year 2009 will end with positive economic indicators. The growth rate is estimated at 3%, says the Finance Minister. However, the Bank of Mauritius and Central Statistical Office indicate it will be around 2.5% and 2.7% respectively. Normally a growth rate of 3% reassures the technocrats of the Ministry of Finance, in the sense that measures included in the Stimulus Package to preserve jobs and help financially vunerable enterprises have been instrumental in shielding the economy from the negative impact of the global crisis. In fact, the Finance Ministry is happy that the implementation of these measures has slightly increased growth. This was one of the Government’s objectives communicated to IMF’s experts when the Stimulus package was announced in December 2008.

The latest IMF Report, conducted under Article Consultations, states that the growth next year is expected to be considerably than in 2009. However, like many countries who have suffered from the effects from the global crisis, the economic outlook is subject to a high degree of uncertainty which cannot be ignored. There are positive economic indicators as Mauritius is preparing to exit from the crisis. The employment rate is not significantly high compared to other similar countries. While its national rate is determined to be 8%, male unemployment stands at 4%. A possible indicator is the high proportion of female workers seeking work (more than 12%) impacts negatively on the national rate.

The budget deficit, as a proportion of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), will be less than 5% ( around 4.8%), according to estimates of the Finance Ministry, whilst in the U.S and Great Britain, the deficit is respectively 9% and 10% of the GDP. Minister Sithanen continually makes note that the country will have to live with the current deficit of 4 to 5% for the next 2 or 3 tears. Another positive result of the country’s economic indicators is the level of net

international reserves which have exceeded the hundred billion mark rupees, equivalent to 42.4 weeks of imports. The depreciation of the dollar, the currency in which the country imports, mainly from its commercial partners, is actually impacting on the country’s reserve situation.

Sectors like tourism and textiles, which have important links with the rest of the economy, should renew with a mild growth during the last quarter of the current year. The tourism sector is still severely affected with reduced room reservations and lower tourist arrivals from its main markets like Europe, affected by the global crisis. Since the beginning of the year, tourist arrivals have decreased by 10% and revenues fell by 17%. Hotel groups are targeting the high season period, particularly the New Year festivities to increase arrivals. The textile sector, also adversely affected by the global economic slowdown, shows some signs of recovery as certain big companies have begun to register firm orders.

Under these economic circumstances, the necessary budgetary rigour should prevail and any attempts to get out from parameters are bound to endanger the macroeconomic balance. Rama Sithanthen finds himself in a tricky position as he has, on one side, to satisfy popular or even electoral measures given the political context, and on the other side, pursue the economic reforms. To what extent can he reconcile these two divergent options? Big Challenges await him next year.

According to him, ‘it was a real challenge to start competitive philately and through time, I developed a real passion for this activity’. His interest for stamps collection grew through the years and Rajesh Bagri proved to be a talented philatelist by accumulating international awards and medals for his specialized thematic collection and study of ‘maps and cartography’ in more than fifteen countries. He admits that his accomplishment is closely related to his passion- stamp collection, ‘Collecting stamps allowed me to develop a high sense of curiosity and research to learn more and more. This positive attitude still prevails in my work life.’

With years of experience in philately, together with being appointed Hon. Commissioner General by the government of India, at Indepex Asiana 2000, he wants to share his knowledge and passion. He also served as a Faculty member at Jadavpur University’s course on philately.

Moreover, the senior consultant participated in various philatelic promotions for the youth and child development, ‘I am the Patron of Children’s little Theatre and hs conducted several workshops on philately at schools.

Golfer’s paradise•••

Mauritius embraces you like you have been away for far too long. This was my first thought just hours after arriving for my first trip to the island. The subsequent days were a delightful discovery. I soaked up the breath taking beauty I was constantly surrounded by, the warmth and hospitality from the diverse mix of Mauritians, proud of their cultural heritage, harmoniously co-existing with one another. I simply could not wait to wake the next day and submerse myself in more.

My C.E.O two days later indicated that he played golf with a gentleman by the name of Rolph Schmid, the GM of Labourdinnais Waterfront hotel, and I should rendezvous with him post haste if I truly wanted to experience something unique and exceptional.

Port Louis in the afternoon tropical heat bustles with activity. This hub of business throbs with the comings and goings of pedestrians, traffic, markets, construction,

parliament, banks, various financial institutions, private companies and the ever present dynamic operations of the free port. But, I discovered another world within the stately doors of the Labourdinnais hotel. It is a sublime moment. The immediate effect is of serenity, calm, understated sophistication and elegance. Everything has been carefully considered. Nothing is left to chance from the designer furnishings in cool shades of mint and cerulean, a balm for the senses, the Zen-like water feature, to the well-groomed attentive staff that greets you at reception, right down to the embroided napkin accompanying my glass of water.

Rolph Schmid embodies many of the characteristics

of the Labourdinnais hotel. he is stylish, exudes an air of calm, is articulate and efficient, denoting a seamless blend of affability and professionalism.

I spoke to Mr. Schmid about his love for golf, (he has

played since the age of 12), and his many years in the hospitality trade, and was curious if there was a common thread between the two? There was no hesitation in his reply.”They are both about the pursuit for perfection”. “In striving for excellence in the hospitality industry, like in golf, one must be passionate about it. I try to pass on and instil this same passion to my 11 executive staff members as well as cultivate that same passion amongst all the staff here at the Labourdinnais. This passion is demonstrable in the manner that the needs of guests are catered to, particularly those of the business traveller.

Labourdinnais has the strategic location of being 5 minutes away from the financial and business hub of the Mauritian Capital, Port Louis. It is within easy reach of the International convention centre and the Cyber City. Together with the conference rooms, it also has a hi-tec business centre with all the necessary facilities and services to conduct business at any hour. They create a bespoke business travellers experience: from monogrammed bed linen for the discerning traveller to something simple like personalized business cards printed for your convenience. upon arriving in Mauritius, my C.E.O had his company up and running in 3 weeks. Labourdinnais played a pivotal role in assisting in any capacity it was called upon to. I understand now how he came to live there for 18 months. For all frequent travellers, Labourdinnais not only endeavours to become your home away from home, but your personal assistant too.

Labourdinnais’s premier gourmet venues and luxurious accommodation continue to set the bar for hotels on the island and so together with its 12 years of operation and developing and maintaining its brand, has positioned it as the preferred hotel for the business traveler. Simply put, it is a unique product and concept that distinguishes itself from the recent introduction of new hotel developments such as the Four Points Sheraton.

It was at this stage that Mr. Schmid mentioned Le Suffren, hotel and Marina, Labourdinnais’s sister hotel. But that is a story yet to be continued.

Hi-tec Business Centre:The Labourdonnais offers all the

necessary facilities to conduct business efficiently by day or night. These include committee rooms, secretarial services, and computer booths with internet access, rental of cellular telephones and computers, courier and messenger services, email, fax and photocopying, office stationary and materials and executive office back up.

reserved to all golf courses of Mauritius. The aim of this project is to increase the visibility of the destination on the international golf market. The island counts 8 splendid courses of 18 holes among which 7 are of international level and other 3 courses of 9 holes. Each course has its own particularity and it is this diversity that MTPA wants to put forward in their promotion strategy to attract foreign golfers whether pros or amateurs.

Moreover, the MTPA takes part in several golf activities on the international scene and strongly supports the initiative of golf operators to set up an association that regroups major actors of the golf arena on the island.

Second participation of Mauritius at the International Seatrade fair

MTPA through its representative in Germany and the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) participated in Seatrade Hamburg 2009 held last September. Most of the registered exhibitors are port authorities and cruise companies, tourism boards, hotels as well as airlines.

The Indian Ocean was represented by seventeen participants from Mauritius, Seychelles, Reunion and Mayotte. Furthermore, Mauritours, Summertimes, White Sand Group, MPA as well as the Port Association of Indian Ocean Islands (PAIOI) were also present. Note that Mauritius is at its second year participation in the Seatrade Fair. Last year’s edition was hosted by Venice in Italy.

The main objective of the Mauritian participation is to raise awareness on the potential of Mauritius as a cruise hub. Port-Louis is already the port of call of Costa Crosiere, the European giant. During the summer 2008-09 cruise tourism has attracted 21 300 tourists in Mauritius out of which 11 500 came on the Costa Europa.

Founded in 1970, Seatrade is a well-established brand in the international cruise and maritime community. Its publications and events cover every aspect of cruise and maritime activity and are known and respected around the globe. Hamburg is Northern Germany’s economic powerhouse, with major industries in aviation, shipping, science and research, renewable energies and tourism.

POULTER CASHES IN AT BARCLAYS SINGAPORE OPENSentosa, November 1: England’s Ian Poulter held off a brave challenge from Liang Wen-chong of China to claim a thrilling one-stroke victory at the Barclays Singapore Open on Sunday for his first triumph in two years. The Ryder Cup star battled to a one-over-par 72 at the Sentosa Golf Club to complete a wire-to-wire victory in the star-studded uS$5 million event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour for the first time.It was Poulter’s eighth career European Tour win, which was worth uS$833,330, and his first since winning the 2007 Dunlop Phoenix Open in Japan. however, the flamboyant Englishman needed to overcome a mid-round wobble with four bogeys over six holes to end his title drought.Liang, Asia’s number one in 2007, battled gamely with a 70 to finish second, but lamented missed opportunities down the stretch especially on the par five 18th hole which he needed to birdie to force a play-off. Two-time Barclays Singapore Open champion Adam Scott of Australia stormed through the field with a 68 to finish joint third with compatriot Scott hend, who signed off with a 69.Poulter and Ryder Cup teammate Graeme McDowell traded the lead all day long, with Liang lurking behind. But as McDowell faded and Liang failed to find the birdies, Poulter eventually prevailed thanks to a 30-foot birdie conversion at the 13th hole which proved pivotal.“The birdie on 13 pumped me up. I was getting angry (after bogeys on 11 and 12). I played so well in spells around here and it was just so annoying to let easy holes slip,” said 33-year-old Poulter, who played 12 holes of the third round in the morning to hold on to his lead.“Making bogey, bogey there and lose the lead with Graeme in front, I felt I needed to do something and I did – I rolled a putt in from 30 feet. And it gave me a nice boost to a tiring day.“I was mishitting some shots which made it a little bit interesting on a string of holes yesterday and coming out today I made some mistakes as well on the front and back nines. That made it a little bit too close for comfort. But to stand on the last hole knowing I had to make five to win made me fairly happy,” added Poulter, who ended the week on 10-under-par 274. Liang was searching for his second victory in Singapore but came up just short in the end. he needed to birdie the par five 18th but his approach with only a wedge in hand left him with a 25-foot birdie putt which he didn’t even come close to holing.“I tried my best but lady luck was eluding me. It was quite a pity on the 18th hole that I couldn’t find a birdie, I just hit a bad third shot. I had a pitching wedge in hand, had 126 yards to the pin,” said the Chinese ace, whose consolation was a career biggest cheque of uS$555,550 which took him up to second place on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit.“There are no regrets. Golf is like that. If I can’t make birdie, I have to accept it. Overall, I’m satisfied and pleased with how I played all week and being in contention.”Scott, a crowd favourite after winning here in 2005 and 2006, showed he was back to his best form by coming alive on

As he had made the weekend rounds right on the cut line, the dashing Aussie played on the opposite nine from the leaders but he charged up the leaderboard with six birdies against three bogeys for joint third place.“I thought if I could do something special, I could win on the wrong side of the course. But it wasn’t to be, that probably won’t ever happen,” said Scott.he was delighted to finish strongly after a difficult season which has seen him drop to 76th place on the world rankings. “I’m in better shape now that it was at the start of the week. I put it all together in the last two rounds,” he said.“It’s good to see something come out from the hard work as I’ve been grinding it pretty hard. 1. Like every putt the 1st step is to read the green carefully, secondly the line or the imaginary Path of putt so that you see exactly where it curves for both direction.

3. Again imagine the circle to get in as target, it should be a bigger circumference as its very hard to have an exact point to aim for..

4. And remember it is the same putting stroke whether it s short, long, straight or putt with slopes..The surface of the Green will give the ball the turn. And as many players find it difficult to read the line because they don’t read the line on the green carefully..and very often it happens that players always see their putt keep going straight instead of turning and argue with their caddy that it was the wrong line, but I simple reason is that most players are too aggressive on the putt and doing so as it produce acceleration it is impossible for the ball to turn at the right point.

PHIL MICKLESON

ARJUN CHAKRABORTY’s

hello friends, hope you had a good and exciting time watching great golfing events. What dramatic ups and downs!! Really, it is like living a whole life in 4 days for a golfer and also for a young junior who assimilates himself with his idol golfer. (If you want and if you can, you may adopt one such junior and help realize a noble dream!!)This genuinely ‘Gentleman’s game’ shows us how to live a life like a true champion. It teaches us to accept both success and failure with equal glory. Nobody is a loser in this ‘Game of Life’ and the game of Golf is definitely the winner.

Before I make predictions in this edition, I would like to remind you what I wrote about ‘Tiger the Great’ in my last short but daring predictive article. I used phrases like ‘Tiger may not be able to maintain the perfect level of concentration which one definitely needs and generally he possesses to finish off tournaments with glory’ and ‘expensive loss of concentration at decisive moment’

Although Tiger did come back with vengeance in following events with fully loaded guns, I am sure he will never be able to digest or accept the unthinkable loss that he incurred on himself in the all important Major event

We must accept that a Major is a Major and for a golfer of Tiger’s stature, sadly but truly it was an unlikely case of ‘expensive loss of concentration at decisive moment’. But of course, he is a great and he will remain to be so as long as the game of golf is played or even talked about on the face of earth.

Now, it is my turn and good fortune to have the opportunity to predict about the evergreen ‘Gentle Giant’ Phil Mickleson. It is true that most of the last few events have not gone according to Phil’s liking. But, we know like Tiger he is also a true champion and definitely we can expect a lot of fireworks from his golfing weapons in 2010. While making predictions on this perfect gentleman, I would like to break up his 2010 season into three unequal parts which indicate some significantly different planetary positions for him.

1. From the beginning of 2010 to March 20th. 2. From March 20th to July 30th.3. From July 30th to end of season.

Speaking of the first of these unequal parts, during this period (beginning of 2010 to March 20th), Mickleson will definitely get some good results which will have enough

reason to make him happy and highly encouraged. But, he will have to work hard on his concentration and consistency. There will be some very good results including tournament victories, but still he will not make much advancement towards Tiger Woods because of high degree of inconsistency and some very poor results like missing cuts or very high scores. During this period, he should do some serious work on his focus which will not be steady. But, overall, the part of the season will be good enough to keep him motivated for the rest of the season.

The middle period (20th March to 30th July) can be the best for Phil. During this time, Phil will find his form clicking most of the time and his scores will reflect that too. So, between April and July 2010 he will make good advancements towards Tiger and especially at important junctures he will take risks which will pay off brilliantly. his game will be exciting and he will become even more popular especially among young golf-lovers. Speaking simply, he can become too hot to handle in the spring and early summer of 2010. Watching him will be like watching an action-packed film in this period.

The last of these unequal parts of 2010 (30th July to end of season) unfortunately does not look so good for Phil Mickleson. At this time, suddenly he can find his calculated chances not paying off at all. he can take unnecessary risks also out of some over-confidence that he may gain from his success during the first half of 2010. At critical times, he must dig deep and concentrate very hard to avoid repeated mistakes. There is high risk that he may lose in this period all that he will gain mainly in the 2nd unequal part of 2010. Therefore 2010 for this top golfer can gradually bring rise and can end with some fall.

But, my best wishes will definitely be with Phil and an all time great like him deserves every bit of the popularity and love that he gets from golf fans like us. So, let us get behind Phil Mickleson and encourage him to present us with a fabulously exciting 2010. Let us see how far he pushes Tiger in the next season.

In my next article which will be coming up before the year end, I will shed astrological light on some more exciting prospects of 2010. I hope you will enjoy this as well as the following vedic Astrological articles that will be coming up in the following issues of ‘Swing Time Golf’.

Till then, enjoy!

•••Fit round

Exercises: One needs to be in ‘Good Shape, if one expects to be in the game!

It is always good to have a minimum of fitness when you play golf even though golf is hardly an aerobic activity and no one needs to be an exercise fanatic to get through 18 holes in good shape. However, experts in physical fitness and nutrition are categorical: a good level of fitness can only improve a golfer’s performance on the green.

It is a fact that to be the absolute best on the course and play your best golf, one needs to implement golf fitness into one’s practice and training routine. Golf is a physical sport and it requires dynamic strength and flexibility. Likewise, the demand of the body to swing a club is upwards of 100 mph while staying in a correct golf posture is huge.

You may agree or not but your ability to stay strong for the entire round , makes you score easier on the first hole and keep the pace on the 18th. You are less reluctant to fatigue and other problems that can arise from a poor condition.

For an adequate fitness on the green, fitness specialists recommend at least four hours of cardio-vascular training per week. The type of exercises depends however, on the golfer’s choice. While many prefer running or jogging others would prefer low-impact options such as stationary bikes. The golf swing is physically brutal on a broken body. If you have physical limitations, your chances are high to have multiple swing flaws that impact your game in a negative way!

Note that people who are embarking on a new exercise regimen should always check with their doctor to make sure that there is absolutely no danger in starting this particular activity. Once, they get cleared, they can start their first steps towards becoming fitter golfers while adding extra yards.

Jokes

A man and wife were playing in their club’s annual “Guys and Dolls” tournament. The man was not happy about having to play, but his wife had insisted. On the 12th tee, his patience had reached its limit. While his wife wasted time on the ladies tee, he decided to go ahead and hit his drive from the mens. unfortunately, he misjudged his shot and his ball hit his wife in the back of the head, killing her instantly. At the hospital the doctor came to talk to the husband. “Mr. Davies, we found a golf ball lodged 3 inches into your wife’s brain, which was the the cause of death. But, we have found something else that really puzzles us.” “What is it?” asked Mr. Davies. “Well,” said the doctor, “we also found a golf ball lodged 6 inches into her anal cavity.” The husband dismissed the doctor with a wave of his hand “Oh, that was just my Mulligan!”

TOP TEN SIGNS YOUR CADDIE WANTS YOU TO LOSE Your new titanium driver is slathered with bacon drippings and stick-um.• He wipes the mud off your ball with coarse #10 sandpaper.• You hear him whisper to another caddy that you’re a “major league..” something.• He suggests you shorten the hole by teeing off over the snake-infested swampland “unless you’re a pussy willow sissy • boy.” As you line up your putt, he does shadow puppets on your pants. • He says he’d like to help you read your putts but he’s illiterate. • When you sink a birdie putt, he moans “there goes my bet.” • During your swing you hear him feverishly talking on his cell phone, but it’s only to the time-recording lady.• When you ask him where to aim your next shot, he points to his left breast. • He hands you a driver, 9 iron and putter and tells you “meet me on the next hole and don’t mess up!” •

Lady LuckLady Luck was seldom kind to Sam. Although Sam had a real zest for life he was constantly beset by bad luck.He loved poker but poker did not love him; he played the stock market with great anticipation but always seemed to be the one who bought high and sold low.His life seemed to be full of more downs than ups.His greatest delight was his golf game. Not that Sam was a great golfer; in fact, he never managed to break 100, but the odd shot that somehow ended up in the general area he had in mind was enough to keep his hopes alive. Finally Sam became ill and passed away. But just before he died, he asked that his remains be cremated and his ashes be scattered just off the fairway on the ninth hole of his home course. Accordingly, a gathering assembled to carry out Sam’s wishes. It was a bright sunny day and was going well. Then, as the ashes were being strewn .... a gust of wind came up and ... blew Sam out of bounds.

Two Scots, Rabby and Angus are playing golf and come upon a water hole.Rabby tees up and hits it into the middle of the pond.He reaches into his bag to find that he is out of balls. He then asks Angus for a ball and proceeds to hit it into the pond as well. This goes on for 3 or 4 more times and when he asks Angus for yet another ball, Angus says.”Rabby, theseball cost me a pretty penny,”Rabby replies “Och!, Angus if you cannee afford to play the game, ya shouldnee be out here”
