Coming events in and around the San Diego Swing Dance Club
Join us every Sunday afternoon promptly at 3PM for a basic west coast swing dance lesson, followed at 4PM by open dancing until 6:30PM
August 7th: Wear Red, White, & Blue - celebrate birthdays with a cake and a drawing for free dance passes. .August 14h—Tee Shirt Day .
August 28th—Advanced Workshop with Robert Palladino.

It might be hot outside , but our fans will be running
and the a/c will be turned on. Come on in to our Sunday afternoon lesson at 3 PM
followed by open dance from 4 to 6:30 PM. You will have a really “cool” time .

A Few Words From Our President
Our summer is going fast and we have had
some good crowds even with the hot weather.
We are so happy to have all of you coming
and enjoying each Sunday dancing with your
friends. Our music has been great, and our
classes are full with everyone wanting to
learn more. Thank you for supporting our
wonderful club.
On the 14th of August we will be having our TEE SHIRT Day.
Wear you Funniest, Prettiest, or Most Original and win Prizes!!
It will be a fun day as you never know what our members will be
wearing.
We will be having an intermediate workshop on August 28th with
our talented instructor, Robert Palladino, who will be teaching
you some new steps. Class starts at 3:00 p.m. - don’t miss out.
Remember – dancing keeps us healthy!! DON’T STOP! See you
at the club.

August 28, 2016 Intermediate West Coast Swing Workshop
Robert Palladino, Instructor 3:00 PM—4:00 PM
Add a few intermediate steps to your portfolio. Robert has been a member of the San
Diego West Coast Swing Dance Club since 1993. Along with his wife Vicki he has taken
many dance instruction courses. In Robert’s own words:
“For me the big take away from those years of instruction is to teach patterns that your students can do on the social
dance floor, to give them the information that they need to execute and lead or follow those patterns and, more impor-
tantly, to make it fun.” For more information about Robert and Vicki see the flyers on the tables.
Cost: $5-members, $10-Sister Clubs & Non-members - plus the normal cost of entrance to the open dance.
August 2016 Beginning West Coast Swing Dance
Instructor: Lloyd Lickert 3—4 pm
Lloyd wears many hats in the dance community.
He is a teacher, judge, performer and choreographer,
and has placed 1st in Regional & National Dance Competitions
Lloyd helped promote WCS in becoming California’s Official Dance.
He has also researched and documented :
(1) The History of Dance from 1776 to 1976
(2) The origins of swing dance evolving from the 1920’s
Charleston and the 1930’s Big Band Era.
He was a member of the original Board of SDSDC in 1970 and a member of the Board of Directors of the
California Swing Dance Hall of Fame (1992-93) Lloyd also conducts judging seminars for pros and stu-

Ronald Tong 1947 to 2016 Our club is sorry to report the passing of one of it’s members. Our condolences to Elsie Fischer-Tong on the loss of her husband Ronald.

About SDSDC:
The San Diego Swing Dance Club is a private, non-profit
organization. Its specific and primary purposes are to enjoy,
promote, preserve, encourage, and teach West Coast Swing.
Members receive discounts to weekly dances and special
events and each issue of Swing Times newsletter. Club colors
are red, white and blue and the first Sunday of each month is
red, white and blue day. Wear the Club colors and be entered
into a drawing for a free admission pass. If you haven’t been
to the Club dances in a while, stop by soon so you can
continue to enjoy the dancing, fun, and friendliness that
makes SDSDC so special. One free admission to first-timers
to the club, let them know at the door.
