Degree structure• A degree includes Professional Major, Co-Major and

Minor areas of study

• They are made up of individual subjects called ‘units’ that share a common theme

• A single university degree is comprised of 24 units

• A Professional Major is comprised of 16 units and forms the ‘tag’ of your degree

• A Co-major is 8 units of study

• A Minor is 4 units of study

How do Pathways work?

Page 8: Swinburne Pathways 2010 (Open Day 2010)

How do Pathways work? > Credit is awarded to students who have

completed a TAFE qualification

> Shorten the length of time it takes to complete a university degree

> No need to re-apply through VTAC

> No ATAR score requirements

Diploma Qualification> A Diploma qualification entitles students to 8

units of credit, the equivalent of a university ‘Co-major’

> A student with a Diploma qualification would only need to complete a ‘Professional Major’ (16 units) in order to obtain a university degree

> A full time student with a Diploma qualification can complete a university degree in 2 years
