Nuffield Health, Bournemouth Hospital In a challenging live environment, SWH Build undertook extensive refurbishment and internal alterations to the Purbeck Ward at Nuffield Hospital, Bournemouth. In addition to the main ward, the project also included minor enabling and phasing works throughout the hospital.

This 12 week contract period was non-negotiable in terms of deadline due to other operational aspects of the hospital. To achieve completion on programme, SWH Build managers formed excellent working relationships with key hospital personnel to ensure efficient communication.

Despite the complexities of the building and challenges of working around live operating theatres, the SWH Build team achieved what at times seemed the impossible, and ultimately completed the project on programme.

The Purbeck Ward was handed back to the hospital early January 2015 amongst high praise from hospital management, and will go on to reinforce the excellent and growing reputation of SWH Build working in healthcare environments.The right people for the job

Poole High School This project commenced early May and ran through until late August 2014 with SWH Build working to a non-negotiable deadline to coincide with the start of a new school year.

The programme of work involved a high specification re-roof and re-clad of existing modular buildings in addition to an extensive internal refurbishment.

The SWH Build team were up against the clock from the offset. Other issues such as restricted access and adapting to a live environment were also challenges met by the team, led by Area Manager and former pupil of the school, Luke Trussler. Design issues presented by the age of the existing building were successfully overcome through the course of the job.

Despite these complications, this project achieved completed on time and the SWH Build team had a very positive impact on the staff at Poole High School, with the Site Manager being invited to join the Board of Governors as a Consultant for Build and Maintenance.

As a result of the successful works, mid-way into the project SWH Build were also asked to complete a second project within the timescale; converting and refurbishing the existing caretaker’s house into an inclusion unit for the children at the school. This additional work, led by Andrew Knowler Contracts Supervisor, ran alongside the original project smoothly and was completed in line with the main works and the start of the new school year.

Preston Academy ASD UnitThis design and build project consisted of the construction of a single storey stand-alone building in the grounds of Preston Academy School in Yeovil. Working closely with our chosen architects, Reed Holland, the new build Autism Unit was completed January 2014 and opened to pupils April 2014. The facility provides a specific learning environment for the pupils, who have Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

The high performance design was constructed from traditional block work with a mixture of finish render and cedar timber cladding. Internally, the building created a calming atmosphere and was decorated in light colours while specific carpets were selected for their particular material. Sound scoops were inserted into the walls of all teaching areas to reduce the amount of noise passing through. Underfloor heating runs throughout the build. SWH undertook all mechanical and electrical works including the installation of IT systems and a security system.

Musbury Care HomeThe works at Musbury Care Home, Axminister, consisted of the conversion of a large ground floor garage space in a new supported living space comprising of 3, high specification, self-contained ensuite rooms with communal facilities.

In addition, SWH Build also converted first floor office space into comfortable living quarters for the onsite care team.

A live project from January 2014 until April 2014, the new living spaces were handed over on programme with hugely positive reaction from residents and staff alike.
