The conference office will consider the following criteria (in rank order) when establishing times.

All-ODAC: Athlete of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year. First, Second and Third teams, as determined by the top vote getters through the individual sport all‐conference voting process for each sport.

ODAC/StellarOne Sportsmanship: Each coach selects an athlete who has exhibited sportsmanship on the field and behind the scenes. Each school competing in the sport has a representative.

All-Tournament: Each sport has its own policy to determine honoreesAll-Academic: 3.25 grade point average for the academic year

Commissioner’s Cup (Men’s, Women’s, Overall): Points are based on regular season standings in team sports and championship team finishes in individual sports.  Each institution has a total number of possible points they can collect based on their individual sport sponsorship.  The total number of points earned is then divided by the total number of possible points in order to come up with a ranking for each institution.

Doc Jopson and Marjorie Berkley Awards: Scholar-Athletes of the Year: Awards are given each spring to member college seniors and conference sport participants who exhibit the highest athletic, academic, and extracurricular achievements.

The primary purpose of the ODAC SAAC is to serve as a representative body of conference student-athletes regarding all matters related to the conference. Committee members shall act as liaisons between conference student-athletes and the ODAC Board of Directors.  The group meets annually; twice in 2012-13 (fall and spring).

2012-13 Initiative: ODAC SAAC is continuing its partnership with Special Olympics Virginia as part of the NCAA III SAAC Initiative set forth over a year ago.

Audrey Hester (RMC) is a rep to the national SAAC.

The Four Steps of Voluntary…In order for any athletically related activity to be considered "voluntary," all four of the following conditions must be met:

1)Student-athlete must not be required to report back.

2)The activity must be initiated and requestedsolely by the student-athlete.

3)The student-athlete's attendance and participation in the activity may not be recorded.

4)The student-athlete may not be subjected to penalty if he or she elects not to participate in the activity.

The only way an institution may notify another institution that a student-athlete has issued a self-release is if:

The student-athlete has notified the institution in receipt of the form that he or she has decided to transfer to that institution; or

The student-athlete has issued a second self-release to the same institution.

Determining Transfer Status

A student-athlete is a transfer if he or she transfers from a collegiate institution after meeting any of the following conditions at that institution: Full-time enrollment and attended class; Full time in night school; Attendance at a branch school that conducts

athletics programs (not a transfer if going to branch to parent institution);

Reported for a regular-squad practice; or Practiced or competed while enrolled part

time.

Case Study – Coach KingCoach King would want to know if the high school

students he was addressing were seniors or all grade levels.

If all grades (which the initial question would suggest), he would be limited to a general discussion about his school or Division III. Any specific recruiting presentations would be prohibited along with contact with the non-seniors/parents in the crowd.

He should also make sure the meeting is not determined to be a fundraiser – due to the other questions that would need to be answered prior to attending.

This definition includes, but is not limited to any service that provides information only to paid subscribers, any service that is only available to a select group of individuals (e.g., coaches), regardless of whether there is a charge associated with the service, and any service that provides information to the public free of charge.

13.11.2.2 Tryout EventsIt is impermissible for a member institution

of conference to host, sponsor or conduct a tryout camp, clinic, group workout or combine (combination of skill tests and activities) devoted to agility, flexibility, speed and strength tests for PSAs.

Staff members may only attend if sponsored by an outside organization if the event occurs off the institution’s campus and is open to all institutions.
