Year 5 performed their wonderful Sweeney Todd to the school on Thursday morning and we were amazed by the skill of the soloists who sang so beautifully. It was great to see the whole year group supporting as the chorus and a lot of words learnt by the narrators too. A huge well done to Year 5 and thank you to Mr Saul for an excellent production!

Sweeney Todd comes to Lorenden

Meat Pie anyone?  Year 5 performed their wonderful Sweeney Todd to the school on Thursday morning                         and we were amazed by the skill of the soloists who sang so beautifully. It was great to                                   see the whole year group supporting as the chorus and a lot of words learnt by the                                 narrators too. A huge well done to Year 5 and thank you to Mr Saul for an excellent                                   production!

 THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES

Plastic Pollution

Year 5 lead the way!  We started the week with a thought provoking assembly on plastic pollution led by                           Saskia and Isla in Year 5. They made it engaging to all ages with a family of fishes, but                                     also hammered home the clear message about recycling, reusing and being careful how                         we dispose of our rubbish. Well done girls!  Christmas is here!

Lorenden gets festive!  Huge thanks to Mr Howe for the donation of a Christmas tree for the hallway and to the                                   FoL for decorating the tree outside of the building at the beginning of the school day                               too. The tree is already bringing a smile to people’s faces as they pass by and helps                                 spread some Christmas cheer! (Please see the dates below for the planned Christmas                         festivities).

 Huge Congratulations to Year 6

Kent Test Results  Kent Test results are out to parents now and we are delighted to not only have achieved                                 a 90% pass rate from those who took the test, but also that one pupil achieved full                                 marks across all papers! Well done to all of them for their hard work.

 Crafternoon

An afternoon of fun  Lorenden teacher, Mrs Swann, decided to do a Christmas crafternoon making festive                       decorations, boxes and cards. We raised a wonderful amount of £125 for a charity called                             Mind. Mind is a charity that helps people who have mental health problems and                           provides support and care for them, making sure they have people looking after them.                           During the crafternoon we made Christmas decorations out of salt dough which we                         rolled out, then pushed leaves and lavender on to decorate them. This printed the                           pattern on and looked amazing. Then we peeled the leaves and lavender off and baked                             them. Secondly, we made Christmas cards starting with a bauble one, then a Christmas

tree using coloured card which gave us a special 3D effect. Finally, we made small                             Christmas boxes you could turn into an advent calendar or perfect small gift wrapping                           for a friend or family. I really enjoyed doing the Christmas crafternoon with Mrs Swann                             and I think it is great we raised so much money for the charity Mind.  Emmeline Year 4

Nursery

A puzzling time in Nursery  The children love doing puzzles and we have had to add extra shelving for them all!                               Since September, the children have progressed from wooden shapes puzzles to those                       with 25, 36 and even 60 pieces!

Year 2 - Sandwich Making

Year 2 designed and made their own sandwiches in DT

They then had to taste them and evaluate them. They all agreed that their sandwiches were delicious!

Year 5 - Science

 Science

This week, Year 5 were investigating how far away one magnet can affect another, using a car to hold one of the magnets in order to reduce friction and inertia. They have been working very hard learning all about forces this term.

French

  French School Parcel

The Children in Year 4, 5 and 6 have worked very hard to complete some homework to                                 send to our French partner school, Notre Dame de Santers, near Lille. In their French                             lesson, Year 4 children have written about themselves and Year 5 and 6 have described                             their school uniforms. The parcels have been dispatched and will hopefully reach the                         school by next week. I want to thank you all for your generous donations of Christmas                               crackers, the French children will love them!

We wish our French friends a wonderful Christmas 2020! Let’s hope things get back to                             some kind of normality in the New Year so that we can resume our Year 6 visit to                                   France.

Emily’s challenge

Emily has decided to run 40 miles to raise money for the NHS. Emily is running 1 mile                                   every day for 40 days on top of all her other activities and commitments! She has                               already raised £430, well over her target of £250 that she set herself. You can support                               Emily on her JustGiving page, set up by her Dad, by clicking on the following link.

You can donate to their JustGiving page by clicking here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Emilys-runathon?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=Emilys-runathon&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=b6f22db72f0c484e9e3dbf1c90bf1a68.
