SWAZILAND SOUTH DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

Phase 1

OPENING AND INTRODUCTIONS

Opening song and prayer: Led by Miss. Margret Matse from Lavundlamanti

Church of the Nazarene.

Prayer: Rev: Japhter Simelane from Ndzevane Church of the Nazarene

Welcome Remarks and Introductions:

Devotion: Dr Mashangu Maluleka (Africa South Field Strategy

Coordinator)

Word of God was from the book of Mark 1: 35 -39

Rev: Gama was asked to read the bible in SiSwati version and Dr Maluleka

prayed.

Dr. Maluleka pointed out that Mark does not talk about the history of Jesus but

talks about Jesus in His ministry. i.e. “praise singers turn to steal the audience

Page 5: Swaziland South 2016.pdf

Swaziland South District Church of the Nazarene 39th Assembly Journal Page 5

and use special words” so was John the Baptist, he was unique and did things in

a unique way, but he made sure that things were done properly. John the Baptist

introduced Jesus as someone greater and greater than him, a messiah grater and

stronger. “It was exiting, someone greater and stronger”.

Dr Maluleka summarized the scripture by pointing at three important point on

the ministry of Jesus.

The Ministry of Jesus is:

Powered by prayer,

Authority,

The ministry should be directed to the unreachable,

Powered by Prayer

The ministry of Jesus is powered by prayer.

People cannot be forced to be Christians even if we teach, we cannot change

them. We need to pray. We need the grace of God to change people to become

Christians. We need to be a praying church. (John 3:16). Pastors need to build

churches through prayer because prayer has power. In the communities where

pastors work they should pray. It is not qualification that can change the world

but prayer. “We need to pray “

Authority

The ministry of Jesus is a ministry that is associated with Authority.

Dr Maluleka pointed out Jesus ministry was a PhD ministry. Jesus preaching

was not just preaching ordinary but it was with authority and anointing. It was

unique. Thus pastors preaching should be full with authority. The Nazarenes

believe in healing (God Heals) that is the work of Jesus. “We don’t need water,

oil or any other substance but we need Jesus. Pastors of Nazarene should do

Page 6: Swaziland South 2016.pdf

Swaziland South District Church of the Nazarene 39th Assembly Journal Page 6

God’s ministry. When people come to church pray for them because some have

problems and are attacked by demons they need help. If anyone of you is sick

call the elders of the church to pray for the person. It is not oil that heals but

Jesus. Jesus says just call my name JESUS. The church should change the

communities. People should know you are there as a child of God. Pray for

them and do not say I don’t pray for them they will go somewhere.

Our ministry should be a PhD ministry (read Mark chapter 2 and 28) the

authority will do the undoable in the lives of the people.

Jesus says tell the world about the authority I have taken from God. Church

without authority encounters problems. If we do not pray we end up with people

who are demons demon possessed in church (evil spirits are there even in

Christians, even in church group delegated church duties) demons are real and

Satan is real. The church should raise the flag of Jesus.

The ministry should be directed to the unreachable

The ministry should be directed to unreachable “they brought many that were

possessed and were all healed”. People are ready, waiting, longing for you. In

our communities, Jesus’s ministry should be directed to the unreachable. Let us

move to the next town. The missionary aspect is the one that makes one to be

proud of being a Nazarene. It is not enough, we are not stationed, we move to

every community (Revelations 7: 9) Let us move and tough all the areas and

they should feel the holiness of the Nazarene.

Let us go to the next village powered by prayer, with Authority and reach the

unreachable. “We should say I want to be part of it”.

Devotion was closed in word of prayer by all participants.

Time: 9:35 am

Phase 2

ASSEMBLY BUSINESS

General Superintendent: Dr Eugenio Duarte thanked Dr Maluleka for

preaching the ministry of PhD. He stressed that going to church is a good thing

the rest of the business is moving to the next Town, reach others and talk about

Jesus.

General Superintendent then introduced how the other activities of the day were

to be carried out.

District Secretary: Mrs Assiana Dlamini was asked to give order on how and

where people were to seat, taking right positions(secretaries, pastors, VIP’s,

Advisory board, Delegates, Treasures, those who were to present reports and

Board of tellers and visitors)

GS COMMENTS

and he thanked the district for the good work well done and for electing DS Rev

Sipho Ncongwane. He pointed out that the district has great potential. Rev

Sipho Ncongwane (DS) was then introduced and was asked to present his

report.

GREETINGS

Page 8: Swaziland South 2016.pdf

Swaziland South District Church of the Nazarene 39th Assembly Journal Page 8

The General Superintendent, Dr Eugenio Duarte; the Regional Director, Dr Filimao Chambo; the Field Strategic Director, Dr Mashangu Maluleka; Pastors; the

President of SDMI (Mrs Flora Dlamini), NMI (Mrs Dumsile Maziya), NYI (Rev Lucky

Gama) Delegates and all South District Church of the Nazarene visitors and

Friends , I GREET YOU IN THE NAME OF OUR SAVIOUR AND LORD JESUS CHRIST. I want to thank the Lord for his continued love and care to me and my family. I also thank him for the opportunity he has given me to serve him and to teach me

how to serve him every day. I agree with the apostle Paul when he said, “Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant – not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” 2 Cor. 3:4-6

I also would like to extend my most sincere and humbly appreciation to the; Advisory board for adding value into the leadership of the District. District NYI, NMI, and SDMI leaders for an outstanding leadership in the district

ministries and your passion in the “making of disciples of all nations”. District committees and sub – committees for working together in organizing all the

district meetings which were a great success. Pastors and all the assigned lay ministers for your dedication and commitment in the

service of our Lord. We have a report to make today because of sleepless nights and stresses you endured for the church to continue to make an impact in the communities. May you be encouraged by this wonderful report, because it is an outcome of your passion and commitment to the call to “MISSIONS”

South district churches, for being faithful to the call to holiness and for embracing the mission statement of the church, “Making Christlike disciples in the Nations”. I remain humbled and grateful for the effort of the local church treasurers and pastors made to send their reports and budgets on time, because it is through that effort that we celebrate this report today.

May I above all, pass my heartfelt gratefulness to my wife Gabie, for her undivided love and support to me and to my assignment. I wouldn’t have come to this far without her support, spiritually, emotionally and financially.

10. Khiza Church of the Nazarene is making efforts to build a pastor’s house. The Churches has managed to raise the building to at least 75% of block work. in saluting the MEN’S MINISTRY for the donation of cash and plagues, to the

amount of close to E 10,000.00, to build a temporal Church structure for

Siyendle, and offered to do the work themselves. May I challenge the church in Swaziland South district to follow the good example of the men’s ministry, and embrace one another as family. We still have more churches which needs us as district family to help them have permanent church structures.

The churches that do not have permanent church

buildings are: 1. Hlatsi 2. Nkanyezini 3. Ntsjanini 4. Lebovu 5. Mgwenya 6. Kwendzeni

Churches that do not have Pastor’s houses are: 1. Nsubane

5. Khiza

6. Mgwenya

8. Mgazini

Could we, the Church, take this as goal for the next 5 years to build these pastor’s houses and church buildings. I ask men and women of god who have a passion for the Kingdom of Heaven to take a lead like King David.(

CONCLUSSION

As I conclude Dr. Eugen Duarte, may I take this opportunity to thank the Lord for the faithful service of the former leaders of this district, starting from the late Rev. Samuel Dlamini, the

retired Rev. Simeon Mahlalela and the retired Rev. Japhta Simelane for their strong passion and

dedication into the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. I salute them for laying their lives and suffered blazing summer heat and freezing winter colds; who, in the process contacted chronic ills just to make sure that the cross is the winner. They might have gone home with nothing to enjoy with their families as an earthly package for their retirement but I know that a

CROWN OF GLORY IS AWAITING THEM IN HEAVEN. May those who are still alive remain our library of tangible experience of a long, healthy and an active service in the ministry. May I also humbly appreciate the misters who have served more than 10 years in the local churches they are currently serving. It took Jesus Christ three and half years to make a foundation of an effective life time ministry, but those three years cost him his life and death. So one can imagine how hard to serve in such long years. May you be encouraged today that, at this assembly, the district acknowledges and appreciates your service. It is my prayer that you remain focused and connected into the heart of Christ and continuously filled by the Holy Spirit who is the engine for effectiveness of the ministry.

MINISTERS WHO HAVE SERVED IN THEIR RESPECTIVE LOCAL CHURCHES MORE THAN 10 YEARS

I would like to thank the advisory board for their unwavering support, thank you for standing for the truth at all times. Thanks to all district advisory councils and standing boards for their leadership and dedication to move South District Church of the Nazarene forward. I thank all pastors for excellent work done in the local churches, despite the challenges that their facing in the ministry. I also thank the local church boards and councils for the support they are giving to the pastors and the district. May we together as a district, work hard and lift the standard of holiness in our communities. Finally, pray for me and my family, and help me become the leader you would love to celebrate. Best wishes for a healthy and a prosperous 2015/2016 Calendar year.

DISTRICT CHURCH PROPERTIES BOARD REPORT 2015

The General Superintendent, Dr Eugenio Duarte; the Regional Director, Dr

Filimao Chambo; the Field Strategic Director, Dr Mashangu Maluleka; District

Page 21: Swaziland South 2016.pdf

Superintendent Rev. Sipho Ncongwane, Pastors, Delegates and honoured visitors

I greet you in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

During our term of office we could not visit all the churches, because of

financial challenges. As mandated to this to this board, our task is to find out if

the churches have properties and the conditions of those properties. We

managed to visit 5 churches and this is what we discovered:

1. Mgazini Church of the Nazarene. The building is still under construction,

and it is being roofed.

2. Endlinilembi. We went to do site allocation for a new bigger church

structure. The church has also fenced the church property.

3. Ntondozi. They have built four Sunday school class rooms, and the walls

are above window height.

4. Siyendle. We also visited this church for site inspection for a church

structure to be commenced.

5. Enkanyezini. A preschool class has been constructed and the walls

building phase has been completed. We also observed that the

parsonage building is below “the building standard”. For an example, the

building is without structural concrete beams walk ways.

BOARD ADVICE TO CHURCHES

All churches should consider putting fence around the church properties to

avoid the danger of land being taken by the people of the community. We also

ask that churches report to board any construction before work is carried out.

4. PENSION : Rev Gcinaphi Dlamini

The report was presented. Rev Dlamini stated that the pension fund from

Alexandra Fobs has problems because they have failed to regain the

money. The board has resolved that each church should find possible

Page 22: Swaziland South 2016.pdf

Swaziland South District Church of the Nazarene 39th Assembly Journal Page 22

means to bank its money for pension. Rev Dlamini pointed out that

prayer was needed for the pension board

Observations, Questions and comments

Question; what makes the board to fail to claim the money from the

Insurance Broker?

Response was that; there are two companies Momentum and Alexandra

Fobs and the board is still trying means to retrieve the money. Alexandra

Fobs said the pension board did not meet the Broker’s requirements so

that is why it is not easy to retrieve the money. Another requirement was

that pastors should be known how much they earn (Salary)

Question; why do we continue to invest yet there are no positive results?

Response: It is the church that is delaying to sort out the issue and has

made the broker to fail to work out the issue.

Again the DS does not have the secretary to handle a lot of issues,

working things on time is not easy.

DS pointed out that the issue has been dealt on the board and it is not only

the South that has the problem but even the other regions. DS explained

what happened and what is happening, that is what districts are required

to decide how they handle the issue (separation was an option that is each

region should find means of serving for pension)

Report was accepted and adopted by the Assembly.

5. AUDITORS REPORT: Miss Siphiwe Radebe

The report was presented by Lucky Gama from a soft copy on behalf of

Miss Radebe

Purpose of the audits exercise is to make sure the organization finances

represent the organization

Objective were stated

Observations: some receipts and cheques were not corresponding

Some money not clearly accounted for.

Page 23: Swaziland South 2016.pdf

Swaziland South District Church of the Nazarene 39th Assembly Journal Page 23

Recommendations: proper filing should be done

Avoid mixing deposits

The report was accepted and adopted by the Assembly.

GS pointed out that other observations and concerns should be directed to

the management.

6. DISTRICT NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Observations and comments

Assembly wanted to know why this report was important. The GS in responding

to this question pointed out that once the pastors are ordained they are listed in

the world general secretary’s books. The district is responsible for their

ordination and they are listed where they were ordained. Then the ordinated

pastors should be transferred and be recommended by the district. GS pointed

out that in the past a lot were not done well and some pastors have passed on

but they still reflect as active. Thus the district should communicate to the

General Secretary that is why we have to correct the registration of pastors in

proper positions.

14. DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT (ALTERNATE)

Reverend Radebe Hlatsi 42√

At the end of the elections the GS asked the assembly to pray for the newly elected officers

representing the District so that they can perform their duties effectively and efficiently.

AFRICA REGION DIRECTOR’s PRESENTATION

GS introduced the Africa Region Director Dr Filimao Chambo to the assembly

Dr Filimao introduced himself further to the assembly and he pointed out that

the district is improving pointing out that the DS report was wonderful and all

the churches in the district are working hard to meet the requirements of the

church of the Nazarene. Dr Filimao pointed out that prayer is the key and that

the mandate to pray is very powerful and should consult to regional directors.

He stated that the development of the church is greatly appreciated but what we

should know is that we should not think that we have done it, “NO” there are

still a lot of people out there and thus we should continue to have the burden for

the lost souls. If we miss that we shall loose God. What we need to do, is to pass

the message on. “There are lost souls out there”.

He then talked about the vision 2020 for the church. He stated that we should all

work for vision 2020 reach out to the next village, everywhere and proclaim the

word of God. the vision for DS is from 2015 t 2017 which involves increase in

membership, structures, helping people, building a good relationship with God,

disciples and church attendance. Dr Chambo pointed out he was pleased to see

the region working towards vision 2020. To achieve the 2020 vision people

should have faith (faith projection) then all shall come from prayer, fasting and

seeking God’s guidance all the time. He further stated that we should believe in

100% growth at least 1 person per year or more. We still have a challenge of

recruiting people into church; there are still a lot of people who are not

Christians. As Christians we should just pray for 5 people, pastors should help

other pastors, churches should develop other churches. He stressed that we

should not be happy when there are people who do not know God. As children

of God we should go to North Africa where it is risky, we have to reach out

those who do not know Jesus.

Dr Chambo then stresses again on the issue of prayer pointing out that

Christians should reach everyone there in the village or town. Quality time

should be spent with the God and pray to be tools to be used to reach people out

there. Assembly was urged to pray, reach the unreachable and be very much

committed in God’s work.

Comments and Observations were that God has great potential to Swaziland

only if we are faithful.
