TuesdayOpenings• Active and Passive Voice –

o Active Voice occurs when the subject performs the action. In Passive Voice, the subject of the sentence is acted on by another agent.

• Exampleo Passive: Snuffles was taken to the vet by

my mom.o Active: My mom took Snuffles to the vet.

• Rewrite in Active Voiceo Chrissy’s dress for the dance was chosen by her mom.

Grammar• Correct Improving Sentences• Colons and Semi-colons

o Semi-colon rules – these are rarely used ones. o Colons – a couple very common ones – the list, business letter, intro quotation.

• Complete Lesson 2.

1. Review Vocabulary list I am giving you. Write a paragraph about yourself, your activities, your skills using at least 6 of the words. Please underline or highlight within your writing.

Introduction to Personal Narrative

Thesis• Thesis will be centered around a specific career,

internship, apprenticeship, military program, or college goal.

• Part of the thesis needs to identify why this is a viable option for you – o Why you think you would be good at thiso What experiences you have had that make you settle on this particular

choice.

Thursday• Opening – do Journal 3 – Word Choice

• Review the Top Ten Word Choice Mistakes list.

• Write a paragraph about a friend, a class, or your job. Use a word from each of the 1-10 word choice items. Please highlight each and put the number next to it corresponding to the list.

• Learning Target: I can monitor my own correct use of word choice items.

Apostrophes – mean possession

Fridayo Opening – Write the corrected version of the

sentence below.

o Its to bad when it’s the weekend and their are so many things I want to do and only 48 hours too do them, so my dog did not get its bath unless you count walking in the rain.

o (This is all one sentence – but there are punctuation and word choice issues)

Friday• Lesson 4 – Quotation Marks• Review Introduction – look at my comments• Discuss Googledrive comments• Revise your introduction and tie in thesis to it.

o Make sure to not repeat things in body paragraphs.o Transition to thesis. o Look at other comments/suggestions and make improvements.

• Assemble and submit essay to Turnitin.com

• Peer Revision on Monday – if you are absent, know that you will need to do this on your own during the day on Monday.
