Welcome

Thank you for downloading this fine plug-in from BetabugsAudio. As withevery plug-in we make, we have packed as much functionality as possibleinto a streamlined user interface.

SVF2 is a 2-pole State Variable Filter (12 dB/oct) which gives the user theoption of using low pass, band pass, band reject, high pass, or peak filteroutput for each stereo channel. More importantly, the user can morphbetween filter types as he sees fit, and modify the order in which each filtertype morphs into the next. This can result in some truly dramatic phaseeffects, making the SVF2 a powerful creative tool.

In order to get the most out of the SVF2, please spend a few momentsreading this brief manual.

License

SVF2 has a very simple license:

Feedback / Bug Reports

We are always eager to hear feedback or have bugs reported. The easiestway is to visit the Bughouse user forum, found at BetabugsAudio.com.

Controls

SVF2 's controls can be divided into two areas:

1. Filter Controls2. Filter type selector

Filter Controls

Drive – provides a -6dB -> +6dB boost to the signal.

Freq – Cutoff frequency. The halfway point translates approximately tothe A above Middle C (440 Hz).

Rez – Controls the intensity of the filter's resonance.

? - You'll have to discover this one on your own!

Filter Type Selector

These sliders determine the left and right channel filter “morphs”. Theorder of the filters can be altered by right-clicking on the sliders andselecting a preset. Note the capital “L” to denote the Left selector area, andthe capital “R” to indicate the Right selector area. Each channel can be setindependently to a different order, opening up the possibility for some verycreative effects.

There are six different filters to choose from:

All Pass (dry) – Passes the entire frequency spectrum of the signal through.

Low Pass – attenuates high frequencies above the cutoff, giving your sound a “dull” feel.

Band Pass – attenuates both above and below the cutoff frequency, producing a “thin” or “nasal” sound.

Band Reject (notch) – removes the band of frequencies surrounding the defined cutoff setting.

High Pass – removes frequencies below the cutoff.

Peak – boosts the small band of frequencies surrounding the cutoff.

Filter Order Presets

Choosing a preset through the host's patch selection sets the preset to bothchannels.

By either right-clicking the Left and Right slider areas to select “order”presets, or by using automation to program changes in filter order, presetscan be assigned on a per-channel basis. The presets orders are as follows:

NAME ORDER OF FILTERS VSTVALUE

SVF2 Dry – LP – BP – BR – HP – PK 0.000

Logical Dry – LP – BP – BR – PK – HP 0.125

Flush Dry – LP – BP – HP – PK – BR 0.250

MIDI Control Information

By sending a MIDI note to SVF2, the Freq control will be set to that note(based on A = 440 Hz tuning). The Pitch control also affects the Freq, relative to the last received MIDI note (~ +/- 1 minor tenth interval). If nonotes have been sent, it will do a full frequency sweep. Additionally, SVF2responds to the following MIDI CC:

Cutoff 20Drive 21Rez 22Left Filter Position 24Right Filter Position 25Left Filter Order 26Right Filter Order 27
