* ^ Heat Pump Water HeaterElectric water heaters that use heat pump technology are moreefficient, safer, and cleaner than gas options. A heat pump water heater(HPWH), sometimes called a hybrid electric water heater, pulls theheat from surrounding air and transfers it to water in an enclosed tank.Heat pump technology, popular since the 1960's, uses very little energyto operate because the pump moves heat, rather than creating heat viagas combustion.Heat Pump Water

Heater «oJ l jA k(?) Why should I choose a HPWH?== Also called hybrid electric water heater, these appliances are

much more efficient than typical water heaters. This

integrated cooling and heating system, sometimes called

hybrid electric water heaters, uses less energy by moving

heat from surrounding air and transferring it to water in an

enclosed tank. It’s designed to work with other services, like

time-of-use, and will save you money over the life of the

appliance. Save even more with the SVCE HPWH Program.

• Save money. HPWHs are the most energy efficient water heaters on the marketusing less energy and reducing your monthly utility bill.

• Cleaner. Switching from gas to a HPWH will eliminate almost 50% of the emissionsproduced in your home - a big improvement to your home's air quality.

• Safer. An improperly installed or poorly vented gas water heater could leak carbonmonoxide in your home, potentially causing carbon monoxide poisoning

k@ When is the best time to install? The Basics: Heat Pump Water Heater 0 • During a remodel or new construction. A HPWH requires a minimum 200

amp electrical panel and a 220 volt circuit. Planning a HPWH installation duringyour remodel or new construction will allow your contractor to plan accordingly.

A k • Immediately if your existing water heater uses propane. Propane is moreexpensive than SVCE-provided electricity. If you switch to a HPWH you will seeimmediate savings and improve air quality and safety in your home.

APPLIANCES ASSISTANT [£V

• Immediately if your current water heater is an electric resistance unit. You will see about a 70% savings when you switch to a HPWH.MORE RESOURCES S

kA (7) What should I do next?

• Work with a contractor experienced with HPWHs. A proper installationincludes connecting the heat pump to your main electric service panel as well ascapping the existing gas line that was serving your previous gas water heater. And there’s more!

• Review the SVCE Buyer's Guide. It covers everything from what to considerwhen buying a HPWH to tips on how to get the most out of your HPWH.

Want the Heat Pump Water Heater Cliff Notes? Read THE BASICS. Want more information? THE BUYERS GUIDE covers a

range of topics including what to consider when buying a HPWH and factors to consider prior to installation. Work with anexperienced contractor. Some buildings will require an electrical panel upgrade prior to installation. • Visit the Appliances Assistant. Here, you can compare options and efficiency

TRADE-OFFS

To maintain balance between ratepayer value and agency sustainability – lower the discount to PG&E to 1%

PCIA

SVCE will plan for a significant spike to near 5 cents in October then backing down to near 4 cents in 2021

RETAIL LOAD

SVCE will plan on a winding down of Shelter-in-Place but a slower recovery impacting energy sales

PG&E RATES

SVCE has one of the lowest bad debt rates of CCA’s. Should plan on 3x-4x historical performance to ~1%

KEY ASSUMPTIONS

Biggest threat would be PG&E rate decrease. Minimal chance. Most likely slight increase or no change in generation rates
