European Day of Languages Thursday 26 September 2019
Throughout Europe, 800 million Europeans are represented in the Council of Europe's 47 member states and all are encouraged to discover more languages at any age, as
part of or alongside their studies. This stems from the Council of Europe’s conviction that linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding and a key element in the rich cultural heritage of our continent. Therefore, the Council of
Europe, in Strasbourg, promotes plurilingualism in the whole of Europe. To celebrate the day we are planning lots of fun learning. Each class will be studying one country and we'd like to invite children to come dressed in the colours of their
country’s flag for the day YR Italy, Y1 Estonia, Y2 Germany
Y3 Sweden, Y4 Greece, Y5 Portugal, Y6 France
If you can help - by speaking the language, or having pictures or mementos from t ravels please see the relevant class teacher!
Global Group is organising a French Café where customers must order using the
French Language . The coffee shop will be open during Thursday afternoon. Children that want to participate need to bring 50p for un petit régal français.
All profits collected will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Fallfest 2019 Our school has once again been invited to
take part in the community Fallfest events.
A choir of Y4 to Y6 pupils will join the festivities at Glusburn Cricket Club dur-ing the school day on Friday 27th Sep-tember. Pupils have also been invited to take part in the cross country competi-tion which will take place at Glusburn

21st to 29th September 2019. The host town is Harrogate, which is where the race starts
or finishes every day, however, there are various times where there are potential unavoidable delays on the roads
around the County. We encourage you to plan your travels as much as possible, in particular for staff and pupils who don’t necessarily live with-
in close proximity to our School. For the latest information and maps showing details of road
closures, please visit www.northyorks.gov.uk/uci Regular updates and information are also available
at www.yorkshire2019.co.uk and also you can find Yorkshire 2019 information via Social Media.
The Family Fundraisers There is a meeting in the
outside classroom at school on Thursday 26th Septem-ber at 6pm. At this meeting we will plan more events and

New 2 U Uniform Are your children growing so quickly that they are
outgrowing their school uniform?
In school we have lots of good quality New 2U Uni-form available. For a small donation (you decide how much to give) you can come and choose from a wide range of sweatshirts, cardigans, skirts, pinafores,
trousers and shorts. Please see MRs Wallace in the school office.
Thank you for your kind donations of school uniform. Our 'New to You' uni-form store is currently very well stocked and no further donations are re-
quired for the time being.'

Social Media
This is us !
Our school has its own well established Facebook Page— @suttoncpschool
In addition to this regular weekly newsletter and our website you can also keep up to date with what is
going on in school through Facebook and Twitter. We use social media as a way of sharing all the great things that happen here at Sutton CP. Since its introduction this has been very successful and popular with families. Please don’t use our Facebook
page to attempt to communicate directly with school—instead use [email protected] for all email correspondence or ring us or pop in and talk to us. If you are
unhappy with any aspect of our school, don’t use our social media pages—come and talk to us and we can get it sorted together!
Beware of Imitations
We are aware that there are a number of Facebook pages out there which appear to have official links with our school. Some of them—like this one on the left—appear to have been
set up to look as if it is an ‘official’ FB page sanctioned by the school - they are not. By using the school ‘trademark’ purple band (like the website and headed paper), the name of
the school and a photo of our school taken from the same angle, confusion might be easy.
Here are our concerns Their design and name would suggest that content is endorsed by the school—it is not.
These groups are not inclusive. They are closed groups - and some parents are blocked from using them.
These groups have been described as being a ‘safe place to let off steam and rant’. The information about school is second-hand and, on occasion inaccurate.
There are a number of these closed groups—none of which are
endorsed by the school in any way. Accurate information about the school is readily available through a number of easy to access channels. If you are worried or concerned about your child -talk to us—ranting online never
leads to anything good and is potentially in breach of the law. If you want to let off steam, talk to your friends and family through your own social media pages or even better face to face. Model for your children
how best to sort out worries and concerns. Come and talk to us.
Lots of us use social networking sites such as Facebook to keep in touch with friends and families. However, national-ly, this media is increasingly used to criticise or make inappropriate comments about schools or individual staff.
Making defamatory comments on the internet has exactly the same serious legal consequences as if they are made directly to someone else. Legal action could be taken against the person who has made the online comment. Similarly,
threats of violence can lead to criminal proceedings under the Malicious Communications Act 1988.
If you have concerns about anything which happens in school, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance or make an appointment to see the Headteacher who will do their best to resolve things. If you are still un-happy, we have a complaints procedure (available on the school website) which will ensure that your concerns are in-vestigated thoroughly and appropriate action taken. Thankfully this issue does not often affect our school communi-ty. Hopefully this means that our channels of communication are effective and between us we are getting quite a few
things right and, where there are legitimate concerns, you feel able to come and discuss them with us.
