Problems1. Shortage of services for residential areas2. Lack of institutional capability for monitoring and pollution
control3. Shortage of urban services, solid waste management and
wastewater treatment and disposal facilities4. Estuarine Sedimentation5. Low awareness among population and local decision
makers6. High unemployment rates7. Interference of land use8. Marine industrial pollution9. Water logging and water bogging10.Fertile Soil removal11.Climate change12.Radioactive sediments

ApproachPlanning an ICZM program through:1. Monitoring by remote sensing and ground based techniques
and identifying hot pollution spots.2. Identifying and assessing changes in the area by high
resolution imageries3. Building and analysis of a GIS for the region (topography,
layers of vegetation and types, wetland, aquaculture, archeology, residential, industrial installations, land based pollution sources…)
4. Putting forward an integrated coastal zone management plan for development and identifying suitable areas for tourism projects.
5. Carrying out a strategic environmental assessment of the plan.6. Promoting and communicating the study as a pilot study that
can be replicated at other similar areas along the coast.
