1-5-2012 ||Millions in Wind Energy projectThe PetroCaribe Development Fund (PCDF) and Wigton Windfarm Limited (Wigton) will be investing several million dollars in funding and training as part of a Renewable Energy initiative at the Munro College in St. Elizabeth. The initiative will see the PetroCaribe Development Fund investing approximately $7.7 million to rehabilitate the school’s 225 kilowatts (kW) wind turbine while Wigton will assist the school in providing technical assistance and training for fourth and fifth form students in the theory and practice of renewable energy, including the installation and maintenance of the requisite technologies. 8-5-2012 ||Launch of the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Programme in JamaicaThe Government of Jamaica has received financing in the amount of a loan of US$20 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and it intends to apply part of the proceeds for the payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under the project Energy Efficiency and Conservation Loan Programme. 3-5-2012 ||Jamaican Government agencies urged to cut energy costsHe implored heads of agencies, ministries and other public-sector institutions to examine the findings of the audit report and to determine their next step. He noted the Government had access to the electricity bills of every government agency and would be monitoring usage. He challenged ministers and permanent secretaries, especially, to develop and implement an energy-efficiency road map and to set targets for their energy consumption. Read more
