    Government Initiatives

    Various environment laws have been formulated and use of

    Polythene bags have been banned in various states.

    Formulated the National Policy on Biofuels and given approval for

    setting up the National Biofuels Coordination Committee and

    Bio-Fuel Steering Committee.

    IREDA will be investing around US$ 3.39 billion for the development

    of renewable energy sector projects during the 11th Five Year Plan.

    Considering a regulation to make use of renewable energymandatory for special economic zones to save on traditional fuel

    like coal and diesel.

    Corporate Investments

    PV Technologies India, Titan Energy Systems, Reliance Industries Ltd.,

    Tata BP Solar Power are among the 12 Solar Photo Volataic projects

    filed under SPIC, would entail an investment of US$ 16.34 billion

    over a 10 year period.

    Several Eco friendly green models of automobiles, including of Tata

    Motors, Toyota and Honda are expected to be launched into the

    Indian Markets by 2011.

    GE Energy Financial Services and EPURON Pte Ltd. Singapore havelaunched Asia-Pacifics first renewable energy private trust to

    promote sustainable development.

    Dell launched The Climate Eduxchange, to improveenvironment education in schools across India.

    Dell has banned the export of non-working electronics to

    developing countries.

    SOS childrens villages of India and Coca Cola India announced

    the commencement of work on 24 millions litres of rainwater

    harvesting project near Kochi.

    Nike has its Reuse-A-Shoe programme. The upper fabric, innerfoam and rubber soles are used to make flooring and surfacing for

    playgrounds and sportsgrounds.
