SOME BEST PRACTICES IN TOURISM AND TRANSORT AREAS COLLECTED BY SEEMORE TEAM
1.MOBILCARD: A SPECIAL TRAVEL PRODUCT FOR TOURISTS (PROVINCE OF BOLZANO – SOUTH TYROL, ITALY)
Purpose: Toallowtouriststotravelaroundtheregionusingallmeansofpublictransportwithjustoneticket.
Key partners: Decisionmakers:theAutonomousProvinceofBolzano–SouthTyrolandtheSystemofIntegratedLocalTransport;fundingpartner:theFoundation"SüdtirolerSparkasse"(asregardstheMuseumobilcard).
Timeframe: Initiativelaunchedin2006,with2newcardsintroducedatalaterstage.
Current status: Theinitiativeisfullyoperating.Afterthelaunchoftheoriginalcard,twonewcards(theMuseumobilcardandtheBikemobilcard)werealsointroduced.

Description of the measure: TheMobilcardallowsindividualstomakefulluseoftheSouthTyrolIntegratedPublicTransportnetworkwithjustoneticket.TheMobilcardcanbepurchasedfor1,3or7consecutivedaysandgivesaccess,amongotherthings,totrains,busesandcablecars.Reducedfaresareavailableforyoungstersupto14yearsold.Inaddition,theMuseumobilcardprovidesoneadmissiontoeachofthe80participatingmuseums,andtheBikemobilcardallowstheholdertorentabike(onlyonce)duringthevalidityperiodofthecarditself.TheSystemofIntegratedLocalTransportisfullyinvolvedintheoperationoftheinitiative.Inadditiontoitsticketoffices,alltouristofficesandmanyhotelsareoperatingassalesoutletsfortheMobilcardandtheMuseumobilcard.ConcerningtheBikemobilcard,somehotelsandotherleisurefacilitieswillsoonbeequippedasbikerentalsoutlets.Some80museumsalsoparticipateintheMuseumobilcardinitiative.
Evaluations resultsAsystemtogatherstatisticaldatahasbeenusedtomonitorthesuccessoftheinitiative.Sinceitsintroduction,theMobilcardhasbeenlargelysuccessful,withapeakinsalesin2007.Theuseofcarshasdecreased,withbeneficialeffectsontheenvironment.

2. PARCO PANEVEGGIO – PALE DI SAN MARTINO DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT
Purpose: PromotingsustainablemobilityintheParkandpromotingtheParkitselfasasustainabletouristdestination.Key partners: Öko-InstitutSüdtirol/AltoAdige,NaturalPark“PaneveggioPalediSanMartino”(co-financer),TrentinoTrasporti(publictransportprovider,subcontractor),localrepresentativesofthehotelandrestaurantsector,thelocaltouristboard.Timeframe: Thefirststepsintheinitiativeweretakeninsummer2007,andthecoremeasureswereimplementedinsummer2008.Objectives of the measures to be developed: Theinitiativeaimstoadaptpublictransporttotourists’needs,inordertoencouragesustainablemobilitywithintheParkand,atthesametime,promotetheParkitselfasasustainabletouristdestination.Description of the measure: Thefirstmeasureadoptedwastheimprovementandoptimizationof9routeswithinthePark,withafocusonthenumberofstopsandbusschedules.Anewshuttlebuslinewasalsoimplemented.Thesecondgoaloftheinitiativewastomakepublictransportmoreattractive.ThiswasreachedbydevelopingactivitiesandhighlightingdestinationswithintheParkwhichcanbereachedbypublictransport.Cyclingandhikingtrailswerebroughttotourists’attention,aswellasthepresenceofseveralanthropologicalpointsofinterestwithinthePark.

3. LIMASSOL SEASIDE PATH
Purpose: GivetheoptionofwalkingalongthebeachofLimassol,connectvariousareas,hotels,buildingsofthebeachandcreatearoutethatcomplimentsthebeautifulsceneryofthecoast.Key partners: LimassolandYermasoyiaMunicipalities,AyiosTychonas,PareklisiaandPyrgosCommunityBoardsandtheMinistryofInteriorsProblems before implementation: Walkingaccessfromoneendtotheotherofcoastlinewasthroughasandybeach,whichwasavoidedthemostofthetimes.AccessbycarwasprovidedthroughaseasideroadwhichgetsbusyonFridaysandSaturdays.Timeframe: Thedevelopmentofthewalkpathstartedin2004andwascompletedintwoyears.Thewalkpathrequiresregularmaintenanceduetoitsproximitytothesea.Current status: Itisanalmostacompletewalkingpathalongbutstillhastwogaps.Description of the measure: Constructionofawalkingpathcoveringaround17kilometersofthecoastline,coveringnumberofdifferentmunicipalitiesandcommunities.Itenablespeopletowalkfromonehoteltoanother(forconferences,events,dinners,etc.)withease,thereforeithelpsreducingcaruse.

4. NATURE AND CULTURE BUS, SKANE REGION

Purpose: TheprojectaimstoincreasethenumbersofvisitorstonatureareatravellingbybusKey partners: Municpalities,theregionaltransportauthority(Skånetrafiken)andthedepartmentforregionaldevelopmentatRegionSkåneTimeframe: Projecttime2009-2012.Current status: TheoperationwillbetransferedtoandrunbySkånetrafikensin2013.Problems before implementation: Beforethescheme,publictransportwasnotavailableorlimitedtothoseareascoveredbythenatureandculturebusinSkåneandpeoplewithoutacarcouldnotvisitthem.Description of the measure: TheNatureandCulturebusthereforewascreatedtocomplementtheexistingpublictransportnetworkwithnewroutes,moredeparturesandnewstopstomakeiteasiertoreachnatureandculturebypublictransportinSkane.Theschemealsoincludedmarketingandcampaignsaboutnatureandcultureareas.
5. SOFT MOBILITY CORRIDORS IN VILNIUSPurpose: TheinitiativeaimedtoencourageresidentsandvisitorsofVilniustocycleorwalktothenumerousrecreational,culturalornaturalinterestsitesinandaroundVilnius.Key partners: EUfundingthroughSTREAMproject,VilniusGediminasTechnicalUniversity(VGTU)andtheHealthyCityBureauofVilniusTimeframe: 2006-2009Problems before implementation: BothresidentsandvisitorspreviouslyusedtheircartoreachleisuredestinationssurroundingVilnius.TheNerisRiverbankisanimportantgreencorridorwhichgoesthroughthecitycentreandconnectsittothesurroundingregions.Itwasrarelyusedforrecreationandthereweremissinglinksbetweentheinnercityrecreationalsitesandthoseoutside.
Description of the measures:VilniusCitydevelopeda“SightseeingWaterRouteAlongtheNerisRiver”,includingtheuseofmovablepiers,inconformitywiththeNationalTourismDevelopmentProgrammefor2007-2010.Consultationandawarenessraisingeventsdemonstratedtheimportanceofworkingwithfamiliesandchildren.Alsoitwasquitedifficulttogainthesupportofalllocalstakeholders.Fortunately,VilniusCity,themostimportantstakeholder,wasoneoftheprojectpartners.
